36 minutes of The Order 1886 gameplay (offscreen)

I need to start growing my beard for this game. It should be illegal to play this game without a proper stache or beard.
I'm physically incapable of growing a stache or beard. That's one of the wonders of gaming. I can be someone with badass facial hair.

Sometimes they trying to hard to be cinematic, I could probably live without cutscenes that only shows how you step down a ledder and then lean against a wall, scripted Door openings( it's a bit irritating, you crawling the whole time and then you stand up and walks lazy trough the Door like you aren't on a stealth mission) or a qte to throw a grenate (when you make it like that then atleast let the character do something after every button press, because it didn't look like the Button pressings had any impact)

Encounter design looks really basic, otherwise the gameplay seems to be pretty solid. It's probably a game I'm going to buy when it's cheaper, because it's not really catching me, but the Atmosphere and graphics are fantastic and overall it looks solid, so I should probably check it out at some point.

I just thought of something. Since this is based on the Knights of the Round Table, I wonder if Galahad is skilled with a sword? If he ever busts out an Excalibur sword and starts fighting a Lycan with it, I'd flip out.

That looked better than i expected. Much better than other demos. Seems to have solid mechanics and intersting environments

I actually asked their rendering lead on twitter if they are using SSR or a similar IBL and geometry system like in "remeber me."

Hope he responds!

You asked Matt Pettineo? Let us know his answer please :)
Character reflections seems like they are obtained from capsule skinned to the models like their AO method, they are visible offscreen.

Update!

Three things:

1.Game is gorgeous.

2.Way too many mini cutscenes. Most of those are completely unnecessary.

3.Field of view is annoying. Too close to the character.

Edit:Make that four.

Instakill QTE fails? Really?

1. I know right!?

2. Which part is cutscene and which part is gameply? Oh you can't tell either

3. Close enough to appreciate all the fine detail they put into the game.

Ru said that this is actual gameplay, I have to see how this works. You can see from Galahads movement in a few spots that his hunched over stance is when you are in control. Also looks like it in the stabbing and double slash sections.
Holy shit that sounds/looks awesome. I need this game in my life.

Was anyone else incredibly intrigued by the cutscene dialogue? I had to cut it off right after since I'm definitely buying the game...Also it looks gorgeous, I know the PS4 fan will be loud when this is on

Yeah, I really want to see how those sequences play. It looks like the player has full control but maybe the controls are QTE based? Hoping for the former obviously.

There's a lot of subtext going on with the characters in the lifeboats scene. Very interesting stuff. Overall I'm finding the world and characters pretty intriguing and it makes me want to see more.

Pretty much everything impresses me but the gameplay, and with regen health there's no way they can make a level that I'm going to find fun tbh.

But holy shit this game is too pretty. Kinda curious how much further devs will be able to push the PS4.

Just a few more months....I can hold off watching more videos, hnnngggggg

These FOV complaints are ridiculous unless you just started gaming this year.

I think it is a combination of the camera being clsoe to the character on top of the aspect ratio then the limited fov. I have played a couple games on my PC at this aspect ratio and I always crank the FOV if the game doesnt auto adjust it.

I'll admit it's partially due to the player being a dumbass and rotating the camera everywhere thus making it a bit dizzying. However the camera is like right on the top of the dude.

The one thing about the lore that is cool but also confusing is that these aren't the original Knights. The names are given as codenames to members of The Order. Galahad's real name is Grayson.

It's a bit annoying since they go back and forth to calling one another by the codename and their real name.

I legit loved that the voice actor sounded slightly winded after repelling into the Zeppelin. Little touches like that really increase the feeling of immersion.

My thoughts

The main characters all look awesome
Great voice acting
Incredible graphics engine and tech
Incredible sound
great art direction
Gameplay looks generic but serviceable
They should have gone with TLOU style hand to hand combat
The story seems interesting

This is RAD's first game, so they have a lot to learn, but the game looks awesome for what it is. I hope it sells well and they make a sequel.

Buying this day 1

Eh, I've had issue with these typically 55 - 65 degree FOVs since the advent of larger displays and the 4:3 ratio were abolished. Some games are reeeeally pushing it these days.
While there are quite a few examples, Borderlands 2, on console, was particularly nausea-inducing.

Claiming it's commonplace only serves to support someone's complaints and gripes in this regard, not dismiss them.

As shitty as that dude was at playing the game, that was the best showing of The Order I've seen. Graphically, its up there with the best. Most of the facial animation looks great, though you can tell Galahad gets the most love, as he should.

Glad to see the controls look to have been tightened up. Looks way better than what I played at E3.

Ready at Dawn should release longer gameplay videos like this to get people more excited for The Order 1886. Really liked the touch where it says Directive rather than objective.

Finally looked at the footage.. Off screen hides a lot of faults but this is some CGI level stuff right there. The gameplay seems very good. The recoil is very prominent, hope they don't nerf it!

I think they need more contextual animations for running, especially, running through doors or tight corridors and by the wall should affect the running animation but it currently doesn't seem to, the full speed run animation seems to be in effect even when going slower due to a tight pass, which is jarring given how good everything looks. Uncharted 2 went overboard with this (touch the edges of door/wall almost everytime), UC3 was very good, UC4 seems to have perfected this.

Well, those are removed in middle east versions (including Turkey, whether you include us in middle east or europe) and Germany as well (I think). I thought it was the case for the rest of the EU like Germany.

I don't really think off screen footage will help hide flaws as much as it will hide details and IQ unlike last gen. I agree with you on the animation part some of the running looked a little odd.

And yes TLoU was censored in all of EU atleast the executions in MP was.

Then you will need to buy a fake beard same goes for women.

Here's my thoughts on QTE.

One-off cutscene QTE, like those in RE4? I don't CRAVE them, but honestly I don't really care much either way.

What bothers me is how the melee takedowns are handled.

Observe:

svjqJHN.gif

He's running around in full player agency mode, trying to take out the enemies. He bumps into one at close quarters and hits the melee button. What we get is a sequence that cuts the camera to a "cinematic" view of the takedown.

This is the absolute WRONG way of doing it. It's jarring and disorienting and interrupts the flow of the gameplay. The camera should remain basically as it was, perhaps panning/zooming just a bit for emphasis, but nothing jarring camera-wise.

I dunno, I like that. The animation there is pretty seamless and blends right into the game, especially since the camera angle isn't changing drastically.

All it is a takedown with fancy camerawork. More please.

I need to start growing my beard for this game. It should be illegal to play this game without a proper stache or beard.

I was talking with a friend about this game on Saturday and she said "If playing through this game doesn't grow you a beard, you gotta give up on it. Seriously".
:( Why god? Why can't you let me grow one?

If RaD release a new 20-30 min. gameplay video with a slightly more open level, preferably London at night while showcasing more creatures, less human enemies, I might just be sold.

As is, I pretty much think I'm gonna wait for folks to buy the game and read the impressions and make an educated decision. I'm really reluctant right now. All of the media they've released of this game make me only slightly excited, and I don't know if the whole game is gonna be like that, or RaD is being real stingy with showing off the really good parts of the game.

Shinobi's impressions are reassuring though, fo' sho'.

...and protect the girl stuff, regardless of how we got there, is what I'm tired of.

again, I don't want to blow it out of proportion or raise a big fuss, I'm just saying that I groaned.

Well, it doesn't matter how you do it, people will groan anyway. Rape and genital mutilation toward male characters in a game? Ignored because the female characters aren't protected- pull it off shelves. Female characters protected in a game? Groaning.

You don't protect them, their violence or death, and overall character are a plot piece (regardless of whether she failed to protect herself or not), or the player is meant to derive some type of pleasure in the character's plight/demise. You do protect them, you infantalize them. Of course, it's important to distinguish context, which you seem to have failed considering both a female and male member of the team received that same treatment in these specific scenes and contexts.

A lot about shitty storytelling in a largely interactive medium used to make me "groan," but these kinds of thoughtless comments produce a lot more these days. *groan* indeed.

I am so tempted to read this thread and watch video's but i'm going in blind, i'm still hyped from that first E3 trailer, I saw a quick glimpse of the lycans, wish they were more like this, but you can't win them all
