The Flash |OT| Gotta Go Fast - Tuesdays 8/7c

I'm starting to think Well's just designs the reverse flash suit while future Eddie steals/inherits it in the future to come back to our time

Part of me wonders whether the Flash writers take their emotional scenes and run them through a computer programmed to output the most cheesy dialogue possible. The only thing that made that final Barry/Joe scene work was Jesse L. Martin.

The episode was okay, I guess but I was expecting a lot more from a mid-season finale. It was too loaded with Iris drama and drama in general. How many tearful scenes were in this episode, exactly? I'm also disappointed that they took the easy way out with the whole Wells/Reverse Flash reveal, even if they're complicating it with time travel.

(Fire dude was kinda cool, I'll admit.)

Actually, I believe it works like this...

Dr. Wells in the present timeline is not or was not the Reverse Flash, until just now. It's a time loop. Reverse Flash fro the future had to come back to this time to help him obtain the tachyon deice, which is in turn what allows Dr. Wells to become Reverse Flash.

Or present wells is also from the future... that way it makes that paradox make sense (cant require reverse flash getting his abilities with the help of the reverse flash)

So i assume he acquires his ability from barry at one point... the tachyon device is to make his abilities better than the flash

I wonder since the Dark Archer doesn't come across as much of a big bad to me like RF does. I do think it's possible we'll get ourselves a Zoom as well, which will further complicate things.

I'm curious why Wells seems to be making it so all these heroes and villains exist unless it's to create the time he comes from, which I guess would make sense.

I don't know, Dark Archer absolutely stomped Oliver the first time they fought. And the second time. He was the first legitimate threat. But the personal element of their relationship wasn't revealed until the second to last episode of season one while the Flash had it from the pilot.

Wells = Hunter Zolomon = Reverse Flash
Eddie = Eobard Thawne = Zoom (Eventually)

Is my guess. I also figure Eddie won't take the Professor part of the name because it just wouldn't make much sense.

So I don't really pay much attention to comic Flash, why would Wells help him if he's Zoom?

Well, there were two versions of the Zoom character. The second one had this obsession with making heroes "better" by making them experience tragedy and thus becoming stronger from the incident. So they could be going with that.

I could actually have still bought Wells wasn't RF if it weren't for that last line in the voice. He could have just been continuing to ensure things happen by making sure that suit is ready.

So I don't really pay much attention to comic Flash, why would Wells help him if he's Zoom?

Depending on which version of Zoom they're using. Second Zoom wanted The Flash (Wally West) to be a better hero.

I'm of the mindset that Wells is trying to prevent his wife's death, but he can only go back so far without the Tachyon device and Barry's powers.

In addition, I'm still going with my original theory. Wells is Eobard Thawne, Eddie's descendant. The name "Harrison Wells" is probably taken from H.G. Wells, who wrote the Time Machine.

Awesome finale. I squealed like a girl when Wells pulled out the ring.

So did Wells/Reverse-Flash need to steal the device?

Was that the entire point of his "Trap"

Yeah. It was an inside job.

Some speculation for the future
Once Wells is found out, if there's even a team left, Cisco and Caitlin are going to jump ship to Mercury Labs... or Mercury buys what remains of STAR Labs.

Don't need to spoiler tag predictions man. I'm not sure about that just because STAR Labs is a pretty prominent DC icon. And it looks like a pricey set.

The team could be come something very different over time. Especially with Firestorm and Caitlin's potential future. Cisco's too cheese to ever become Vibe at least.

i feel like arrow was these writers' testing ground to make flash as good as it is now.

it took arrow almost a full season to get this kind of pacing to it's episodes and they've learnt from that which is why flash started firing on all cylinders since the pilot. and honestly joe west is the best authority figure character in either show imo.

gonna be devastated if they kill him.

I'm betting Max Mercury is actually the owner of Mercury Labs and is a speedster too and will be Barry's next mentor figure and will eventually buy STAR labs. And we'll probably get Jay Garrick next season as well.

If Barry was indeed the red lightning he saw as a kid then does that mean future barry is in the present also?

i doubt it, he probably went back home to his timeline. or maybe he's lost in time since the pilot ended with harrison looking at that newspaper saying flash is missing.

from sepinwall:
...I was more affected by Henry Allen telling Barry that their family had lost enough at the hands of the man in the yellow suit, and that he'd rather his son live his life than get justice for him and Nora

true. that scene was the best of the show for me. makes you really despise reverse flash, he's messed the Allens up.

Wow, this episode was friggin' awesome! After Reverse Flash spared Eddie, I was 100% sure that Reverse Flash was Eddie from the future, but then that last scene. Still, I do think that Eddie will become an evil speedster at some point. Wells's knowledge of the future probably knew of that so he decided to spare Eddie.

Yeah, The Flash greatly benefitted from Arrow's growing pains, and even while it has some of its own... most were quickly done away with (The whole Irish serving no purpose for like first 2-3 eps for example)

I also think it helps that they havepowers... andpowers just look cool

hey now, the Irish people have a long and proud tradition you know.

That fight though.
I Thought doctor Wells was gonna be the Reversed Flash. I'm glad it wasn't him
fake edit: whelp 2 Reverse Flash so assumption was right

Who didn't see that coming? Ronnie amnesia
Here's my series prediction
Flash fight Firestorm then helps him remember. Kaitlyn helps him recover. The two falls in love. Firestorm becomes part of Team Flash.

I don't think it's actually amnesia.

JESUS CHRIST THIS EPISODE WAS SO FUCKING BASED

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Any other superhero show or movie, you're done. D O N E

Jesse L. Martin makes every episode good. That dude is a damn good actor. The rest was sort of boring to me but had some good moments. Still had too many people randomly becoming superheroes, already superheroes, once superheroes, or blah blah blah. It leaves so little time to develop a real character other than. Acronyms and funny names. However that does leave it open for fun shallow action and it excels at the braindead stuff.

I don't know. Show isn't called Flash and his Super Friends or Flash and Firestorm. I don't think he'll be a regular on the show.

Flash might have been my favorite comic from when I was a kid. I think I had an almost complete run of them from Flash #1 post-crisis to when I stopped reading comics.
From what I remember from flash comics as a kid:
Eddie Thawn is a timetraveler that beceomes the reverse flash. He kills Iris and Barry kills him, leaves the Justice League because he commited murder and shortly there after dies in Crisis being replaced by Wally West, kid flash.

Why not? Flash can still be the center of attention. Arrow isn't called "The Green Arrow, Black Canary & Arsenal feat. The Black Driver and Introducing Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity 'Oracle' Smoak Smile Time Variety Hour", but they still manage to make it work. They're already mined three other Firestorm characters within 9 episodes too.

It's gonna suck when they kill him off at the end of the season to really drive home the emotional punch...

I thought Wells' cadence was very obvious in Reverse-Flash's dialogue to Barry so I'm glad they didn't drag that out. Really good ep.

Now the true mystery remains: what did Eddie actually get Iris for Christmas? I know that guy did not get his one-year girlfriend a key he had copied in a basement shop for four dollars.

calling it, the next thing that Eddie gives Iris in a little box isn't a engagement ring, it'll be a
Reverse Flash ring

That will be the animated show title

time loops
engagement bands
sports stadiums
reverse flash rings
this show is all about circles

Motherf...

They did a decent job with the fake out those sumbitches or maybe I should say we did a good job faking ourselves out with all that time we spent speculating that Wells wasn't Zoom and then they tease and then surprise! Do wonder where they'll take Ronnie/Firestorm. When Barry confessed to Iris I was half hoping he'd drop the other bomb on her but that might've been too much and caused her head to explode. Awkwaaaaard.

So, Iris's mom is dead, we don't know how yet though but what if her death was RF/Zoom related too and prevented Iris's brother and in turn Barry from being born? Granted the brother ought to be older than Iris, hmm... I still think this season or somewhere next season is going to have some major time travel fuckery. Regardless of Arrow or if Supergirl gets included in this universe.

42 days (or 41 depending on time zone) until another new episode. After Arrow tomorrow it might be time to try and see if I can freeze myself until January 20th... If it goes wrong and I don't get thawed out until decades later well I'm cool with that, just means I won't have to wait for new episodes.

If RF was really from the future and this is as fast as his speed gets, it looks like they've majorly nerfed the speedsters and we'll never get his infinite mass punches and shit like that. Doesn't look like they'll even get close to Mach 2

God..those superpowered duels...

Altougj it's funny, because they looked so cool, but from their perspective they propably spend hour jogging through a city :D

And Wells..you damn evil bastard. Loved how scary the Reverse Flash was.

Also...all the confessions, to Iris and Eddie. Good to see writers getting this out so early instead of prolinging it.

‘The Flash': Andy Mientus Says Gay Villain Pied Piper is a ‘Huge Step Forward’

Theater actor Andy Mientus, who is currently starring as Marius in the Broadway revival of “Les Misérables,” has joined the CW’s breakout hit “The Flash” to play the hearing impaired, openly gay villain Pied Piper (aka Hartley Rathaway). Mientus’ role will be the first gay supervillain ever to be featured on the small or big screen.

“With the gay thing, I feel like I’m representing a whole community,” Mientus, 28, told Variety at the “Into the Woods” premiere in New York on Monday night. “People are excited to see this character, so it is a lot of pressure. But I’m glad they are introducing the character to the show. It’s a huge step forward, and I’m thrilled to help make that happen. It’s awesome.”

Mientus, who is engaged to actor Michael Arden, admits he’s more nervous about pleasing the comicbook’s avid fans than addressing his character’s sexuality.

“The universe of ‘The Flash’ has such an intense, passionate fanbase, which has existed since the ’60s, and this is the first time he’s been in a live-action, on-camera interpretation, so I hope I pulled it off.”

One thing he enjoyed was donning his comicbook character’s costume — which is black and comes with a hood and a cape.

“It’s badass. I can’t put it on and not feel powerful,” said Mientus, who originally auditioned to play Barry Allen, aka the Flash. “It tells you everything you need to know on how to move and feel like a superhero. It does a lot of the work for you.”

Mientus will make his debut in the episode set to air on Jan. 27.

The first gay AND deaf supervillain. CW breaking barriers errywhere.

Who said Reverse-Flash was moving at peak speed? He just has to move faster than Barry.

Plus wasn't the whole point of the tachyons in this ep to help him surpass the speed of light?
