Goddammit, now I'm picturing Link leaping from his horse onto a bird and vice-versa. I promised myself I wouldn't play the imagination game!

hahaha... this gif is so perfect

If they bring Ganon/dorf back at least make the final battle not only look but also feel epic.
I loved the fist time I fight against Demise in SS and all the battles with Ghirahim were really fun, or the final battle with Ganon in OOT.

More of that and less of that piss easy final showdown against Ganondorf in TP.
TP has the most epic boss battle in any LOZ game

I've always wanted to see an aerial battle in Zelda. The boss of City in the Sky in Twilight Princess was really awesome and partially what I've always wanted to see, but I'm talking Link on some kind of flying creature against an airborne boss or even an opponent riding one, just zipping around fighting and freefalling with Hyrule visible below.

The series has flirted with this but has never come to fruition. There was a fight on a flying thing in Minish Cap, but still not really what I'm talking about.

They've flirted with the idea a few times but nothing in Zelda has come close to the moment in Shadow of the Colossus where you dismount your galloping horse and leap onto a giant sky snake.

GANONDORF, YOU HAVE FAILED THIS KINGDOM!

Don't loftwings not travel below skyloft?

Doesn't have to be a loftwing. They could make up anything.

Demise battle beats TP Ganon. Dat set piece moment.

In the end of Skyward Sword there are Loftwings at the Surface, assuming the cloud barrier is gone since it's not needed anymore.

Also the final boss of Zelda U will be the glorious return of the Thunderbird.

I think the only thing that the sailcloth proves to me is that this is using the same engine as SS. Which, I believe is using the same engine as TWW, just heavily modified over time.

That's true but any magical BS trinket could solve that. Flying around this world would be so cool! I finally got my flying wish in Zelda on the bird was a little more duck or stork like that I would have hoped and we never really had freedom to fly anywhere.

I wanted Link's bird to be more eagle or owl like personally but that's small potatoes. I wished the loft wing interacted with the world in SS more outside of cutscenes. It was just this ever flying kyte that never went with you anywhere like Epona does.

Being able to fly should definitely come later and not completely devalue Epona either. You fix that by making taint clouds that poison or shock, blasts from death mountain that are hard to avoid, stationed Moblins that are deadly accurate with arrows and obviously thick woods and caves that need to traversed on foot or by horse.

I just want to fly over a land scape and land at the edge of town with the bird while the bird waits there for me.

Skyward Sword uses a modified version of Twilight Princess's engine which uses a modified verison of Wind Waker's engine which uses a modified version of OoT/MM's engine which uses a modified version of the Super Mario 64 engine.

You can be damn sure they modified the SS engine for this game, probably with some help from Monolith Soft.

Could you control the sailcloth's descent in SS? I don't remember it having quite the same utility.

How does the inclusion of that item prove that it's SS's engine (constant recycling of Zelda engines notwithstanding)?

Really, TWW's engine was a modified OOT engine? I thought they started fresh with TWW and then just modified from there.

You know, if they want a bird in the game, Nintendo could always just included Kaepora Gaebora or something, I mean I'm not really sure how he'd carry you, but since he's in the same category as Link, Zelda, and Ganon in that he just keeps showing up, he really wouldn't need an explanation or anything.

Would you like to hear that again?

No Yes

I would say 8 traditional dungeons + final one and 4 mini dungeons would be great. The world is huge and Dungeons need to reflect that. I would like two of those traditional eight to be off the wall ideas, like the sandship or snow peak ruins. The rest are either temple like or cavern-esque.

I feel like having a true open world now should be reflected in the overall design, most important of which is removing or lessening that barrier or sharp divide between overworld sections and dungeon sections. Having them become more seamless and intertwined is something I hope they can achieve.

There shouldn't need to be such a large reliance on traditional dungeons as there has been in some of the past games where that was the bulk of the experience. Have fewer, but larger dungeons I think would be great. Letting them actually develop them out with more complexity and detail. While then spreading throughout the now far larger and more interesting overworld numerous smaller set piece experiences that allow them to explore a larger variety of gameplay styles and scenarios that might not warrant or be able to sustain a full dungeon experience. The kind of stuff that works better in short but sweet experiences.

Game engines when done right port over easily between hardware.

I don't think there is much to discuss there. You rarely start fresh with a 100% blank page especially in a team who works together on the same game series for years.
You always have some code to re-use. Sailing cloth/leaf item physics probably. Thought I hope for an important part like the open-world thing they rethink their thing entirely.

taint clouds
i would definitely want to avoid those.

the jumping off epona/shooting mechanic would be awesome if it was integrated into changing mounts as well...launch off Epona, land on a bullbo (or other enemy mount) and knock off the bulbin/bokoblin etc... and take the strong mount around for a bit. or launch up onto a flying mount.

I wonder if we're going to get a central gimmick that isn't simply "it's open world".
I already see some fresh aspects.

- More emphasis on bow&arrow fighting
- Slow-Motion bow&arrow mechanic
- Auto-riding Epona for enhanced bow&arrow fighting
- Sailcloth for aerial traversing (makes sense because there are a lot of mountains)
- Collecting & eating apples from trees

I really hope we get some kind of dynamic weather, what are the chances? We saw that the E3-demo had strong wind, the last video hadn't.

So this game is basically a sequel to Super Mario 64. FINALLY!!

Let's be honest, there are very few medievally-themed places link hasn't gone at this point.

What I'm saying is that it's time for link to go into space.

I know it's gonna sound fanfic-y, but there's been that theory of Ganondorf actually not starting as a villain in this one if he appears, due to Link having bracers with similar patterns than the Gerudo, and that it would instead first appear as a father figure/mentor for Link until he becomes evil.

I think it could work if Nintendo doesn't make it TOO melodramatic.

I'll never forget one of the TP trailers where it ended on a wolf howling at the moon, and some people were like, "I BET THIS MEANS LINK TURNS INTO A WOLF", and I just dismissed it as people looking way too deep into things.

Kinda learned my lesson there.

What does an item have to do with game engines?!

Has a full screen video of this been released yet?

No and it obviously won't.

WW and TP both had dynamic weather plus day/night cycle. Outlook is good.

Dynamic weather????

That was a good one.

Where did this demo end? Apples?

I think "arrows" is a fantastic focus. We don't need anything fancier than that.

Even though that sounds absolutely rediculous with the current flipping animation, I do think other animals should be mountable. Those boars in TP were a lot of fun to ride.

Dont they go below the clouds at the end of the game? I could swear I remember that scene...

beaten xP

Yeah I thought I remembered that too, which is why I asked instead of just saying they can't.
