Yeah, you essentially build the track in a separate editor outside of DK2 (which looks overwhelmingly complicated at first but it isn't after a few tutorials). Then you start the game with Oculus on and it says "Would you like to start the game in VR mode" and then you can access all your coasters (or other peoples coasters) in a menu, and ride them easily in first person. The graphics, detail and physics are second to none.
 
I was wondering if there is a solution yet for the bandwidth? 4K @75/90Hz requires more than we have right now with DP and HDMI 2.0, right?
 
My issue with the messed up display on the rift only appears when I use the direct to rift mode. On extended it's perfectly fine.

The only reason I see is the nvidia drivers. Since my last message did anyone end up having a similar problem?
 
Any updated consensus on what's the most optimized VR / Stereo-rendering engine between Unreal Engine 4 and Unity?

Not necessarily. 4K screens also means smaller pixels (and perfect scaling).

1080p for demanding games will be just fine.

Native experiences that require less horsepower will be perfect on 4k and will run on more configs.
 
So, what's everyone's current top games for Oculus Rift? Stuff that isn't buggy, or a pain to set up, and provides a nice good experience.
Also, what's the best way for managing the games? I've got a launcher by Bilago, but if I can get things running well with Steam VR that's be awesome too.
Sorry, been out of the vr loop for a bit.

Would we have to get new cards that support displayport 1.3 though?

Probably either Alien Isolation or Elite Dangerous.

I've tested the demo and indeed it seems very very cool. But i've a lot of judder...i'm going to check if it's common with this game.

It depends on the coaster. Lots of 3D models and trees can hit performance. Turning shadows completely off helps a lot, and generally turning down the rest of the graphics to medium helps too. That eliminates judder for me, though I sometimes get ghosting on complex coasters but my card isn't all that powerful (R9 270x)

See, those are the two I have my eye on the most, but Elite Dangerous is a LOT of money, and without any walking elements yet, and from what I've heard a very cumbersome control set. If I could use my Hydra to just have hands on control I'd bite in a heartbeat. As for Alien, I can't even handle Dreadhalls, and I used to play a LOT of horror games.

Elite Dangerous is $50 and you can play it with an xbox 360 controller and keyboard, but obviously it's exponentially better with a proper flight stick/rudder setup. It's online only, however, so that might be a backbreaker for you.

I have just a saitek flightstick, nothing fancy, and certainly not HOTAS. Could I get away with JUST that and a Razer Orbweaver?
Also it being $50 is encouraging.

I'm unfamiliar with a razer orbweaver, but Elite Dangerous takes advantage of every single button on my Saitek X52 Pro, including both types of step on the rudder (foot break AND rudder). That's 23 buttons, 10 axises, 3 8-way hats, and 9 switches, plus integrated mouse.
 
Gahtdamn. Yeah way too much for me to reasonably control. Like I said if I could use a hydra to just press the buttons in game I'd be all over it.

They also hired an NYU Comp Sci professor and expert on Hollywood motion capture techniques, and a 3D reconstruction startup.
 
So is there a list of games that support Direct to Rift? Having just found out Elite supports it I've noticed it's far nicer, and am wanting to mainly stick to those.
 
I've been trying to get dolphin to work in VR with F-Zero but none of the versions I've downloaded seem to work (like at all).

One had some weird upside down VR sort of working but wouldn't exit the menus.

The rest either won't start or start without VR.

Currently on 0.4.4, I tried:

I saw a post where someone had said "a bunch of people" were having issues with it, but I literally just flipped to Direct mode and turned it on, and it just worked. It's also nice because now it mirrors to my monitor, which makes it easy to not put it on before the dizzying splash screens (They are locked in place on the Rift, and don't move with your head), and also to help people out in learning to fly it when I show others about it.
 
Toybox Turbos now supports Oculus Rift. Game was updated today.

I haven't tried yet, but I'm assuming all will be hunky dory.

Should have known... but then again I wouldn't have expected Rift breakage from a beta driver. I didn't try anything other than pCARS last night, but it seems to have affected other apps (all?) too.

On the plus side, I guess this could point to some Oculus optimizations. Maybe wishful thinking, but who knows. We're due for a new driver soon, so I guess we'll see. This one is dated yesterday, so it'll need some more oven time however.
 
Toybox turbos surpassed Sunset Overdrive as my game of the year with this Oculus update. Good lord. I havent felt like this since I was 6 years old waking up on christmas morning.

quick question: whats the best way to mirror what im seeing to another pc or tablet? I want to see what people I let try this stuff out are seeing. Thanks!

OBS is going to be the most reliable way of doing it I think. Ideally every VR game would have the option to mirror to a second screen - it shouldn't need a separate program - but very few do this at the moment.
 
You guys have to try Vox Machinae. One of, if not the best free demos I've tried. Not much to do yet, but the sense of immersion in the cockpit is fantastic. When those windows open and you step forward it's a wow moment for sure. Reminds me of the first time I tried Elite.

If it fades to black before the title screen, just wait a couple of minutes for it to load.
 
Haven't fired my DK2 up for a few months. Any must have recent demos I should grab? I'm going to a LAN party for New Years Eve and the DK2 will be coming along. Can't wait to see the reactions.
