So what were the bombas of 2014?

Little Big Planet 3 sold like 99k on PS4.

I remember a lot of people around here talking it up like it was gonna move systems cause it is kid friendly or something.

That's sad. I would have picked it up if they didn't decide to launch it in the middle of every single blockbuster game in the world coming out.

Highest reviewed games of the year? Anyway the answer is all the games I didn't like, and that includes shadows of mordor, and Infamous second son

Thread specifically about sales, defends metacritic.

Almost every games this fall.
A better thread will be what game have not bombed.

LBP3, Sunset, Drive Club, Forza, AC, The Crew, Smash, Call of Duty, Bayo 2, Dragon Age,...

That's sad :(

Edit : And Halo MCC. Maybe the bigest bomba (at least for me).

SO in terms of best game of the year so way under what it should have on merit

DAI at least has strong word of mouth

Unity in terms of underperforming (lower sales than FC4) and I have to think the "free DLC" system was designed to salvage a terrible launch sales wise.

Figures wise I would say Trap Team, with Amiibo the big winner instead

Given The Evil Within's October sales thanks to Bethesda's effective marketing campaign, I don't think you can even put it in the "maybe bomba" column.

Both Watch Dogs and Destiny sold a lot, not even close to bombing.

If it didn't meet personal expectations I understand that, but WD and Destiny are the 2 top selling new IP's ever I believe.

Hmm and now with the new patch and fixes people are buying it. Still the best race game i played all year and with the weather in it..well it changes everything. Also the online stuff was not working yeah that was bad and they didn't expect that many that would cripple it the game still works. It is a solid race game a very solid one even.

That's good and I hope the fans have fun with the game but I feel irreversible damage to the IP is done and I can't see a sequel happening.

The fact it doesn't track digital sales makes it a pretty flawed metric to track for success.

I know plenty of people, including myself, who are 100% digital. If you don't have kids- wait until you do. You too will praise digital distribution.

Not really didn't you see the threads with the new weather patch and that video? People on gaf and even out of gaf are buying it. The only thing like i said was messed up was the online stuff. The whole game works perfect even offline,it does what it does it's a racing game not the hot mess AC Unity is that did more damage to Ubisoft and for good reason.

I'm pretty much there. I only have two PS4/XB1 discs, both because my wife doesn't like digital (she feels better having the physical disc).

I get the feeling the reason LBP 3 bombed was because it has been released in a post-minecraft industry, where the appeal of making things has gone in a far different direction than what MM has been offering. That being said, Tearaway is the better franchise anyway.

Depends on the system. No way in hell am I going 100% digital on Nintendo for example.

I wouldn't write off any of the big holiday games yet. They tend to have long legs because people are holding on purchasing them due to other releases. Assassin's Creed, COD, and Halo will sell well for months. And games like LBP3 (a series known for legs) and Sunset will likely sell well overtime due to good word of mouth.

Also, I will have to dig up where I read it, but I heard LBP3 had a stronger second week than first week. A good sign!

Hope the postive word continues and affects gamers mass market then.

I wonder if the cross-gen and cross compatibility hurt it. For myself, when I found out it was compatible with old LBP levels I lost interest. The concept behind LBP is great, but the core gameplay is severely lacking.

Legitimately deserved far better: FH2, LBP3, DA:I, SO, Bayonetta 2, Vita and WiiU in general
Underperformed: AC:U, MCC, Driveclub, Titanfall, Beyond Earth
Underwhelming but still sold insanely well: Watch Dogs, Destiny
Go die in a fire: The Crew, ESO, every EA sports game besides Madden

I don't think people in this thread realize what bomba means.

Edit: Clearly I'm not the only one who thinks that. Watch Dogs isn't a bomba unless your publisher is SE.

EA probably had some pie in the sky fantasies for DA:I that involved more than merely outselling DA:O (which it apparently is so far).

Dragon Age is is no I'd say. It's not surprising it didn't make Top Ten when you look at that list, anyone walking down the street knows GTA, Pokemon, Halo, Assassin's Creed, etc.

Here's what BioWare's Jarret Lee said:

"Hi guys - obviously it's a drag not to see DAI on that top 10 list for November. I can't really give any figures of course...However, from what I know about the sales numbers (a) DAI is doing great and well ahead of it's predecessors, and a significant percentage of sales of DAI are digital and not tracked by NPD. If anything, I'm more worried about the weird signals this chart sends to the market about DAI, as opposed to the reality of our unit sales :)"
That's good to hear. As long as it does well enough that no one is laid off and it gets DLC and a sequel I'm fine with it not topping the charts, despite deserving to do so.

It was just a bad week to come out. DAI and LBP got hammered by being surrounded by big budget rehashes and cash-ins.

I wanted both but I could only get one, so I went with DA.

Unity is not a bomba. The bundle alone sold 800k in the US.

LBP3
D4
Sunset Overdrive
DRIVECLUB
Bayonetta 2
Advanced Warfare
Dragon Age: Inquisition

It's a shame because I really liked a few of those games.(namely Dragon Age, Sunset and D4. I'm sure Bayonetta 2 was great as well though.)

The correct answer (okay, one of them) is Fantasia: Music Evolved.

Which is a shame because it's fantastic.

Its very confusing what the game is, and I dont recall ever seeing a video really promoting whats special about it

Microsoft dont help, they should have been pushing this on their xbox one tabs/store since they gave a story about kinnect being in all boxes then did a 180.

There's no way one can say Smash "bombed", neither on 3DS nor Wii U.

Does DK: Tropical Freeze count? I read it sold like 900k and I don't think that's a bomba at all considering the platform it was released on, even for Nintendo...

After listening to the Bombcast talk about it and they were huge fans of the company and development, it doesn't sound fantastic.

Didn't hear them chat about it, but I warmed up to it after the very slow intro and I tend to clock about an hour a night on it. I was cautiously interested going in but took the plunge because of the developer pedigree and have been extremely happy with it, but the biggest problem is...

... yep. I've posted videos of it for friends and they are totally confused, because it's not a game that you really get to 'enjoy' by watching video or having someone explain it to you. It's not like Dance Central where you get the concept before going in -- it's a very different experience, and one you really have to play to 'get', which (combined with the Kinect requirement) makes it a very likely bomba candidate. It's probably not for anyone, and the nature of the mechanics/controller mean missed inputs can be annoying, so I won't say it's perfect, but it's a game I really get into when I play (mind you I'm also the person playing solo Rock Band vocals all the time and bouncing around my living room like an idiot, so, hey).

To some extent, I feel it's a bit like NintendoLand and the early WiiU/Gamepad stuff, where it looked like hot garbage but people tended to really like it after they actually sat down and used it.

Good to hear. I'm not surprised to hear it sold a lot digitally. That's how I bought it. And I'm sure the game will have legs. Anyone who gets a PS4 or Xbox1 this Christmas and wants to play a meaty RPG won't really have a lot of other options.
