What's the absolute worst game of 2014 you played?

Stick It to The Man.

Humor is subjective, but this shit was weak. I laughed maybe one time and had a couple of sympathy smirks.

Honorable mentions go to inFAMOUS 2 and Shadow of Mordor. Both games I couldn't wait to see the credits roll.

Ar nosurge.

Just...bad. Battle system was a snore, it was way too chatty, story was nonsense to someone new to the series. Sent that game back two days after getting it.

Thief - terrible game, couldn't walk 5 feet without "Loading..."
Thief.

Shitty level design, shitty gameplay, buggy as fuck and a genuinely abysmal plotline.

Trash top to bottom.
Thief.

As a fan of the good old games of the frachise I just pretend that game never existed.
A great example of "it ruined the franchise".
EDIT: I completely forgot about Thief (thank you Shock_Wave for the reminder), EASILY the worst game of 2014. I once had to walk 3km with a broken ankle and it was more fun than playing Thief.
Thief.

I played it for 20 minutes and sent it back to Gamefly.

Mercenary Kings. I was so looking forward to a possible RPG Metal Slug with weapon customisation etc.

Broken game, terrible controls, constant sound clipping that was never patched, ridiculous gameplay design choices. Just such a disappointment and the only game this year that I'd call 'bad'.

Most disappointing: Dark Souls 2. DSI is my favourite game of all time and this felt like a sequel that had been lead by a develop by numbers book. Bland/forgetful/non-sensical environments, artificial difficulty (which I KNEW they'd do as soon as they started boasting about its difficulty. Notice how DS1, DeS or Bloodborne have never done that), boring boss fights with terrible designs in both gameplay and art. There was just no heart and I think even the development team had lost interest in some environments. Disappointing.

Can I do part of a game? And part of a Remastered game at that? If so, I have to say Halo CE. It was painful to play. I can't think of any other games I purchased and didn't legitimately enjoy this year.

Anus Creed Unity

Refund after the first 1 hour of beta testing ( or is it an alpha, or it just got out of alpha ? Who knows ) and bought Inquisition with the money

Destiny. My hype was real, but I barely made it through the introduction. I knew what was coming and I couldn't be bothered playing it for another minute.

Was going to say AC Unity, but remembered Watch_Dogs.

I couldn't play it as the cars felt like large bricks sliding along on pads of butter (unforgivable for a game centering so much on driving from here to there).

I haven't finished it yet, but I think it might be Walking Dead S2 for me.

I'm not really big into this kind of interactive fiction, but S1 lived up to the hype. I was totally invested in Lee's story, but the first two episodes of S2 just feel flat, like maybe Clementine's story post-Lee is best left to the imagination.

Bayonetta 2, maybe?

It's not a terrible game, it's just... I don't get what everyone else sees in it to declare it THE BEST ACTION GAME EVER. The story and characters were horrible, and the gameplay was basically Dodge -> Mash A and X -> Dodge -> Mash A and X -> Repeat. Wonderful 101 was a much more fun Platinum game, and I know it's SACRILEGE to some, but I honestly prefer DmC as a character action game.

I dunno. I felt the same way about the first game, so I don't know why I expected something different this time around. I guess I mainly bought it because I expect it'll be pretty rare in the future.

Destiny. Like others have said I went from really enjoying it to actively despising it. It is bullshit. I'll never trust Bungie again that's for sure.

A lot of people are going to give me shit for this, but I really didn't have fun with what I played of Gundam Extreme Vs. Full Boost at all. I should probably give that game another shot though. I didn't bother with any of the shitty looking PS+ games or any of the AAA flops though (aside from Destiny, which I still need to dig my teeth into but I enjoyed the beginning of).

Not what I was expecting, forced myself to get the trophies though, otherwise I would have dropped it after 30mins...

Going to have to go with WWE 2K15. It does get a few things right, but the poor collision detection and the horrible pin mini-game leave much to be desired.

Doki Doki Universe 2013 or 2014? Either way, it's the only game of recent years that I've played that I'd consider absolute garbage. It performs horrendously, with constant dips/stuttering despite not even looking good, it crashes regularly and it's quite frankly not even that enjoyable when you get it to run for a few minutes. How that game even made it past Playstations quality control department is beyond me.

Only two games come to mind and both for different reasons which are a little unfair for me to judge on but given the topic and all.

Watch Dogs - Ran like shit on my AMD 290 so thought id wait for a driver update and never bothered trying it again.

Destiny - Played for about 4 hours. Gunplay was solid and worlds were great but just couldn't get into it.

I am going to give them both another go though, destiny maybe when a GOTY edition drops.

The only game I've had fun with this entire year was DA:I. That's just me though, I've been in the shitter emotionally for the majority of the year so that could be it as well.

I'm lucky enough to have a good idea of whether I'd like a game before I buy it, so Watch_Dogs is the worst thing I've played this year. Straight up soulless, by the numbers Ubisoft game.

This year I played more terrible games than ever but only for one reqson; I built a PC for the first time in 10 years and was mesmerized by the prices. I bought all the big tiles for $30 or less and God did I play a lot of bad games. I've learned a valuable lesson, don't buy a game just because of the price. All your basically doing it paying less to have a terrible time.

Don't think I've purchased a bad game this year which is certainly not a first. I was going to name The Novelist which I played in January but it released at the very end of last year.

So, the worst one would be merely decent. Games like Titan Attacks, NaissanceE and Siesta Fiesta come to mind.

Edit: Actually, I'm gonna go with Pokemon Link Battle. That one is dubious.

Watch Dogs, The Evil Within, and Dragon Age Inquisition. I can't really pick between them. I'm not sure what I'm not liking about DA:I, but I'm just incredibly bored when playing it. I'd also pick Shadow of Mordor, but I had some fun with it for the first few hours, if that counts for anything.

Glad to say I haven't played very many bad games this year, just mediocre.

I gotta say that every title I've tried on PS+ has been pretty shit.

But the worst was Jazzpunk. I wanted to love it but it played like a shit mixer.

A shit mixer is a cement truck that spews out hot dog shit.

That's Jazzpunk.

I'm sure there are worse games than Watch Dogs, but it's the worst game I actually played.

What a boring, uninspired, repetitive piece of shit, utterly lacking in depth, challenge, or any form of worthwhile player engagement. I've had cardboard eating sessions that were more interesting.

Watchdog or Assassin creed Unity. i cannot choose one. Quite surprise that they come from same developer, Ubisoft.

I dunno; I mean, Dark Souls 2, Tales of Xillia 2, Transistor, Elminage Gothic, and Wildstar each had a handful of glaringly stupid fundamental flaws in them, but none of them are actually even average from that.

ArcheAge

My enjoyment of that game collapsed unbelievably quickly, especially when the true nature of the F2P systems reared their ugly heads after the initial period. Also, the game has been absolutely plagued with bugs, exploits, issues, and all of them seemingly ingored by XL/TRION.

How's the MMO Hype Train chugging along for everyone else? It seemed white hot when I last checked it.

NervousXtian

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Secret Ponchos and Destiny.

I think that might fit my criteria for bad on the small and large scale.

Secret Ponchos looked so cool, but I didn't read up on it.. just new what it was. It was so incredibly boring and barebones. Felt like a mini-game of a real game.. and not a good one at that.

Destiny was like this for me: 1st few hours: Awesome Next 10 hours: Still fun, but hoping that something more would happen. Next 30 hours: Why the fuck was I playing this. Why do I keep logging into this, this is a bad game.

The Destiny beta was so bad for me I cancelled my pre-order and haven't regretted it. But I know, I shouldn't use a beta for "game I've played", so I'll go with DS2.

It's not that DS2 is a bad game, it's just that there are so many flaws compared to DS (to me of course). It felt like a step back. I could go into detail, but I think it's been discussed to death already. After getting the platinum, I traded it in then played DS some more.
