Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

It's real good.

As someone who sank more hours into HaloCE and Halo2 than just about anything I think its a real good vlend of what made Halos fun with a bunch of new stuff to keep it fresh. Remixed old Halo wouldn't hold my attention anymore - this does.

Bravo 343i. Now just fix matchmaking and give me more maps/weps.

I think you're insane. The pistol is a fantastic weapon. I've won many duels with an AR 10' out before. The SMG within that distance, though, would take a lot of nice maneuvering. The pistol is, obviously, not Halo 1 status, but I think it's the most viable pistol since CE.

This. It's a fantastic pistol. If I didn't suck so hard, I'd easily prefer it over the AR (I have trouble landing that last headshot after the shields pop :p). It works great, on a mechanical, visual, and auditory basis.

Yeah, love the pistol. So easy to pull off headshots against AR users. Easily the best pistol iteration since CE.

To the people who've played it:

How's the "dance" holding up?

The feel, flow, pace of combat.

Is it smooth and incredibly awe-inspiring? Does it need fine-tuning?

I've found the pistol to be, essentially, useless. I might as well throw cotton balls at the enemy. At least that would have the chance of my opponent dying from laughter. Meanwhile the enemy appears to have a distinct advantage against me with the AR and grenades. For the AR, here's the time to kill:

For them: The time it takes light to go from the mirror to your eye.
For me: The time it takes light to go from the Sun to Pluto.

(All numbers approximate).

For grenades, here's how they feel:

When I'm throwing them: I am gentling tossing a tennis ball, yellow and fuzzy so as not to be mistaken for a threat.
When thrown at me: They are hurling small, tactical nuclear weapons that devastate everything within a hectare.

(All feelings approximate).

I badly want to play some Big Team Battle in this, but that's not in the cards (at least for this preview). I'm really not a fan of 4v4 in Halo (or really any game).

Appropriate analogies :lol

I never accused you of anything. I said I was having a feeling.

And it's impossible to separate words from implication, especially in the English language. It's one of the few languages most dependent on /how/ you say something rather than what's said. Even text on the Internet has that effect, and you can't say they aren't up to interpretation.

Well, respectfully, you're yanking that feeling out of your ass or mistakenly conflating what somebody else said with my words.

It's all subtext. Implications will be drawn out of your text regardless of your actual intent.

Also, I don't believe anyone else said anything remotely close to what I said in my first response.

Needs some fine-tuning. Base move speed could use a boost, since frankly neither Truth nor Empire are large enough to make the risk of being caught sprinting worth it, but at the same time they're too large for the move speed as it stands.

So is base movement speed really the only problem flow-wise?

That seems like an easy fix.

Beta Feedback:

Dat bloom. Please lower the light bloom. On Truth especially.

Agreed. I get that they're showing off their fancy new lighting engine, but it's honestly a little hard to see what's going on in places, and the Prophet's Bane is like mounting a flood light just in front of the camera. Can't see shit :p

Not the only one, but the only one I feel qualified to comment on. It's gonna require a good deal more testing to see if there's other problems.

It's incredibly smooth and fast purely because of how agile you can be once you get going. You may feel slow and clunky at first but it's not long before you can get around the map pretty quickly. At it's core the combat is still very much Halo with a few tweaks and killing people still feels good.

Also the booster pack when used correctly can be a game changer, it's great to lessen the impact of nades in situations where in past Halo's you would be guaranteed to die, you know the old nade at the feet right before death trick. It's also great for popping out on enemies.

Hah! Nah, just impatient and want to play more :D

Honestly though, I'm really surprised how well all the new stuff works together. They've done a great job, IMO.

Completely agree with this. I was skeptical even after watching the videos as to how well it would work. But they have setup the maps in a way that all of these extra abilities come naturally when traversing the maps.

Ground pound while cool looking, is exactly as they described it, basically a for show thing with a lot of fucking risk, although you can use the hover in other ways which adds another dimension to movement.

Played a few matches, left and now multiplayer wont start for me :/

Otherwise, feels pretty fun! 60 fps is amazing of course.

Game is amazing but I suck :(
Going to try and use the pistol more and not sprint around the map as much...

Any other tips?

Yeah its a bit overwhelming but I think its partially intentional. The Prophets Bane is fucking OP without being able to see 100%, imagine if the screen was crystal clear.

Still, man. Losing literally the entire half of the screen the thing is on (plus some more) seems a bit much.

Still too fucking OP even with loosing all of that. I mean I went on a Killing Frenzy to start the match cause of it, I could have kept going but the sword ran out.

The only way to get kills is for enemies to continue feeding themselves into the 1/3 of the screen you have left, which is largely luck based :p

Maybe have them tone down the bonuses along with the brightness?

I enjoyed the 10 games I played today.

Weapons are all pretty good at their appropriate roles.
BR/DMR actually felt like they had different purposes.
AR/pistol felt like a viable loadout.

The abilities were fine IMO.
Thruster is great, clamber is fine, butt slam+charge don't seem OP.
Sprint and sword is still good, but having thruster makes outplays more possible.
I thought scoping seemed pretty similar to past Halos, so far.

Got placed into Onyx, so close to semi pro >.<
I'm sure it'll be more difficult to place higher once a full population is playing.

Had a lot of fun and was very pleased!

Are helmet and armor unlocks bugged? Game said I unlocked recon chestplate, and cyan helmet, but nothings unlocked.

Plus I've seen recon and ODST helmets ingame, but I have nether.

I only have preview invites and that may not be enough. If you have a direct beta invite, pass it his way.

Anyone know the process for inviting someone into the preview program?

Panda is trying to invite me, but is having issues for some reason? I gave the GT, and he sent, but nothing is coming up on my XB1 for activities/notifications/messages. Same on Xbox Live website.

Nah sprint + thruster+clamber+Sword = God.

Quit out and open the Spartan Hub (or whatever it's called) form the main menu. The matchmaking one seems to be buggy.

It took a day for me to get a message for the invite.
