A really nice analyst of the ending scene using common storytelling methods and devices.

Intentionally or not, the Spirit Portal is now framed by the colors of the bisexual pride flag. Whoop.

The Korea and Asami scene at the end, if Korra was a guy, would've totally ended with a kiss. I understand why they didn't do it though, kids show in the US where gay marriage is still mostly illegal, but it would've worked I think.

If Korra was a guy, with the same amount of setup with Asami in S3 and 4, there wouldn't be a single complaint if they ended the show with a kiss.

Again this isn't true at all and just dismissing the complaints at how that last scene was handle to "scared of the gays" Is both insulting and lazy on you're part.

lol god dammit. If this is what I'm going to be reduced to for disliking the writing then this is my cue out. It was fun while the show lasted guys. I'll go to the community thread once this has passed by, don't wanna be called a homophobe for having a critical opinion. Have fun, Merry Christmas and happy new years.

i would fwiw

I hate the trope that the main character has to end with someone, it's fucking awful. trivializes relationships and demeans the hero's partner to the 'prize' the hero gets for winning the situation. people's lives do not revolve 100% around romance and it is perfectly acceptable to be with someone who does something impressive and still not want to be in relationship with them. i fucking LOVED the fact that toph didn't end up with sokka just because they were two spare characters that needed pairing and by shipping logic they therefore must make babies. no, instead toph grows up, becomes an adult, finds out who she is, and has relationships with other people, like a fucking normal person

Kind of like claiming "it is fact that the creators never for one second thought of it as a romance and only put it in at the very last second for PANDERING!", huh?

I'm not saying it should always happen, but when the lead is a man, it almost always happens (unless he's Asian, see Romeo Must Die) so it wouldn't be surprising at all.

Ugh. I sold the game, but kept my 360. Though I can revisit the soundtrack whenever I want.

But it's not the same as kicking the Senator's ass. =(

Maybe we'll get a next gen port!
I'm totally okay with settling for DMC4 and Vergil da god though

i'd still complain because ti would still be a shittily written romance. a less surpising shittily written romance, but still shittily written none the less.

People aren't claiming it was a badly written romance, they're claiming it wasn't a written romance, period. That's the issue. You can have your problems with quality of the romance but people are denying its existence.

When the colossus was down from the building falling on it, Bolin should've turned the ground it was on into a pit of lava.

Also, Mako should've died blowing it up and someone should've died after last week's cliffhanger, even if it was one of Suyin's twin boys.

Ill go with you, gotta love how all the people criticizing characters and writting are now eating this up, no questions asked.

To me, they're best friends, not because I'm a bigot, but because the series failed to develop anything more than that.

i mean

i don't think the developers intended korrasami to be a thing until maybe, at best, the start of s4. even if they did intend for it to exist earlier, they communicated it incredibly poorly to the viewer. even in s4, it was communicated pretty badly and I can genuinely not blame someone for failing to detect whether it existed prior to the ending.

Given season 3 made a clear and conscious effort to bring the two characters closer together, seemingly at random, I think you can assume they had this endgame in mind for at least two seasons.

Have you even read the Korra OTs from throughout this show's run? Most people wanted the finale to ignore relationships altogether. But there was a ton of criticism of various het relationships throughout the show.

That's Reed Richards level stretching.

Why?

They were written to start getting closer in season 3, culminating in a romance at the end of season 4. It is hardly any sort of stretch to consider them getting closer in season 3 to be the start of the relationship's developmental.

This is some bullshit. None of the buildup counts because....pandering. It's a lame excuse.

Build up? What was the build up of their relationship over 4 seasons?

Taught Korra how to drive
Korra stole Mako from Asami
Korra wrote one letter to Asami during her absence
Korra blushed when finally meeting up for lunch
Rest of season 4 happens
Sorry about your dad dying because I'm a shit Avatar
Let's go the spirit world together.

Everything about Legend of Korra was pandering to its audience, not just this, and that's why I have a problem with the show overall.

We are at nearly 390 pages.
We need a new thread really damn soon.

I just PM'd Azula to talk about this. We could get a makeshift community thread up and running, or get a Book 4 OT2 on a roll. Seems a bit strange to make a Korra Book 4 OT2 when the season has finished, though.

I dunno. We'll work something out before the thread hits the limit.

It does strike me that Mako, presented as the hunky action boy and prime romantic interest of the first season, ends up not being paired with anyone or given even a hint of a romantic future in the end.

Bolin and Opal are left indeterminate, it's clear they still care about each other, but not defined if it will go anywhere beyond friendship or not.

Varrick and Zhu-li actually fall into a bit of a trope; the wiseguy and his long-suffering girl friday, who of course harbors feelings for him which is the only reason she puts up with him. However, to me they ended up being the most well-written somehow. Perhaps because they had a clear arc, that played out cleanly. They were very good at doing the thing.

Pretty good finale, the ending was sweet but unfortunately ambiguous enough to leave open arguments that will probably go on for a long time. i'm upset there are still unanswered questions. What was up with Zuko's mom? Where the heck/what happened to Azula? Did Momo become emperor?

They addressed all of those in the post-TLA comics.

As someone who hasn't watched the fourth season at all, and knows pretty much nothing about it other than Korrasami, it will be interesting to view the season through that lens. I always liked Asami the best out of the Krew.

if anyone claims that there was build up to their relationship, then they are out of their mind. The show handled a number of things poorly including relationships. The writing was just not at the level of the original series.

There was buildup. Whether it was high or low quality build is up to the individual to decide, but denying its existence is a little futile by now.
There are exactly two romantic relationships in the franchise (yes that's TLA and LOK) that were well crafted, and one of them still had issues.

The types of stories they are trying to tell doesn't lend its self to just short 13 episode seasons. Korra would have greatly benefited from having a similar run as The Last Air Bender.

Can somebody post again the list somebody made with foreshadowing? Some people didn't read that at all or some of their arguments would not stand that way. Until somebody can find it again, please have this. Mostly pictures and no written argumentation, but they do speak very well for themselves.

Some people say that Asami barely had any screentime. True. But the few minutes she had mostly shared with Korra and her father. While Bolin, Mako and Varrick had way more screentime, they didn't have more screentime with Korra, which would be the important thing to look at for a relationship. Not the screentime somewhere without Korra.

I mean, the beauty of the ending is, that it can be viewed both ways. I don't have anything against people that don't want to have this relationship. What I can't understand though, is that people fail to see that you can easily see a romance blooming between to people.

seriously where was this? You talking about them hanging out in S3. the letter? the compliment? only if you are viewing things through shipper goggles.

^^seriously lol at the collection of screenshots. I guess Mako/Bolin are incestual or something. You cannot take scenes like that as evidence. This is just getting stupid at this point.
