I really do not understand the complaints about weapon call outs, or how it would differ if they were coming from a single player amongst a group of randomly-matched players. Moreover, the entire team crowding the power weapon spawns and a bunch of Spartans simply thrusting in the middle of a map sounds more like behavior that is severely punishable against an actual competent group of players.

What surprises me is the number of AFKers. For the love of god, it's a weekend early access beta, and you're going to spend it standing in a corner?

The idea is, eventually, better players will win more games. So it'll normalize over time, as you get matched more and more consistently with people at a similar skill level, and people who drag down (or pull up) their teams will move up or down the ranks..

I feel like H3 was more consistent. You wouldn't necessarily rank down just because you lost a game, every time. Your number stayed pretty much the same as long as you w/l about 50/50. It would only rank up if you won a few in a row AND played well. Maybe it's because the ranking is more visual now that it bothers me.

The rank seams to be a mix of win you go up loose you go down. How much you go up or down depends on of well you did in the game. I like it but I think they should get rid of the 10 game rating. Make everyone start at the bottom and work their way up. That would eliminate getting max rank in 10 games. It would also be much more similar to 1-50.

the ranking in this is BS. I can be top of my team and go 1.5 KD but rank down because the rest of my team sucked and we lost. Then be at the bottom of a winning team and rank up

That's how proper team ranking works...

Edit: Also, looking at the control options, what did they do to bumper jumper? Jump is on the left trigger now?! It's called "bumper" jumper for a reason....

Request: Would someone record a match only using hipfire and put it on Youtube? Just for an experiment, cause it seems the damage is the same even if the spread of fire is different.

PM me if I don't see the video.

Pretty sure the damage is the same regardless, but scoping in with the AR makes more shots connect so it results in faster kill times.

if I'm jumping in with randoms, it's out of my control how they play. It shouldn't be seen as crap just because my team is crap. If I go 16 and 8, I should not rank down.

if so, how do they decide where the better players should be ranked so they group them together?

Bumper Jumper still has jump on LB.

Eh, I disagree. It results in getting into more skill-appropriate games faster, and takes the truly, terrifyingly good players out of the scrub pool sooner so those of us who live there don't have to deal with them.

Nah, that's an error. Jump is still lb.

Iv'e always taken issue with that. Shouldn't lose lose rank just because the rest of your team can't pick up the slack.

My Halo 5 beta impressions thus far are: This is the logical next evolution in Halo and perhaps the best Halo multiplayer yet, as far as Team Slayer and the two available maps go. The game runs smooth, not many glitches and makes the Master Chief Collection looks even less polished than it already does.

My only real complaint is that the game is clearly way more geared towards hardcore / competitive players than a mixture. Matches were rarely very close. Either you win really easily, or you lose really badly. Most Halo games I've played in the past rarely have this many shutouts, and has a nice mix of close matches. It was extremely rare for this to happen.

Now that could be due to the beta just coming out and everyone being at the same rank, but I'm not so sure.

Some other observations: there is no lunge for melee at all, but there is a Spartan charge you can do if you are at a full sprint only. Shields only charge when you stop running. Boosting is REALLY fun and useful, a game changer alone. The controls take some time to get used to since sights are the left trigger. I hate the Xbox One's bumper buttons, they SUCK, as I've said since day one. There are only human weapons. Ground pound takes so long to charge up that it is really hard to pull off, and needs a direct hit for a kill. Both available maps are amazeballs and feel right at home.

Overall I'm very please with what I played and I can't wait for more of the beta to open up!

TL;DR: It is great, but maybe perhaps a bit too geared towards esports / competitive players.

Got a perfection. 16/0, yea boi.

Once the controls click, they click. I'm still fumbling a bit, but I noticed that while playing Halo 2 anniversary as well. After Titanfall, other shooters are hard to get used to. :lol

And I think this game caters to the casuals more. Telling us when power weapons are about to appear. Come on

I am dying to play!!! I wish I was a part of the preview program or had some other way of getting in. Any ideas anyone?

From what I've seen and heard the game looks great. Pretty much what you'd want from a modern Halo. Really looking forward to the 29th.

I think that actually goes hand in hand with a more competitive focus. Does it make it easier for casuals to know when power weapons are going up? Obviously. But does it create awareness about how power weapons affect a map and make map control a priority? Absolutely, and I'm totally fine with that.

Don't see encouragement of a play style more befitting of a competitive environment as catering to the casuals, exactly.

Knowing when the weapons are spawning isn't necessarily going to make it easier for them to actually grab them when a more competent team has control of the map on lock.

I had a glitch earlier where I was stuck in a menu thing but i could hear the game being played and my spartan dying. Couldn't control or see anything... so it's possibly that.

Put some more games in with a friend today. Feels so damn competitive, and Empire is a pretty solid map. Not only does the visual design perfectly inform the callouts, but those callouts are shown on the radar and are actually super helpful. Teamwork, map control and power weapons all feel way more useful in this game than in any recent Halo game. It's great.

Something I really don't like right now is the sniper rifle... needs a lot of work. Scope design is horrendous, the bullets just have a weird "feel" and don't always seem to go where you'd want or expect them to based on past Halo games, and the time in-between shots is WAY too long, especially coming off of Halo 2 Anniversary. I hope they tweak it so it's more like the H2A sniper, because right now that's actually one of my biggest complaints.

After about 5 matches I can say it's very fun. Straight rocking kids with the BR on truth is as much fun I've had in multiplayer gaming since halo 3.

Automatics need a bit of a nerf but besides that soo good

My 5 hour impressions....

Pros:

Movement feels amazing. Very fun to get to point A to B.

Gunplay is fantastic...it feels different. And this is not a bad thing. Before anyone hates on it, get used to it first.

Two maps so far (Empire and Truth) are great and tons of fun.

60 FPS makes the game very enjoyable. Will take some people time to adjust, but it feels very fluid so far.

Controls are great and give you a wide variety of options. Feels smooth all around.

Spartans talking to each other feels right. This has helped me a couple times and makes the game sound more alive since everyone stopped using mics after Halo 2/3.

Ranking system is great so far. Teams need to be penalized and drop in rank for losing. This puts so much more emphasis on winning rather it being a one man show. Makes me want to team up with some good players and keep playing.

Some pretty cool medals. The designs are awesome as usual.

Suggestions: (very minor things)

U.I for the "searching for players" screen looks a little bland. Can use that Halo music, player custom badges, etc...I have a pretty good feeling this will be added to the final game.

As much as I love the Assault Rifle, I would suggest reducing either the power or range by a very minimal 15%.

I can never tell if I killed an enemy from the grave. I'm hoping they add a medal for this while I'm viewing the killcam.

Is this Sword supposed to be this bright? I can barely see sometimes. I think it'll help to reduce the brightness a bit.

Bugs:

You can't view results afterward you back out from it...but when you press start to go to the Spartan Hub and press the "Select" button, it opens up a partial amount of the results. Pretty sure this is the bug since half the screen doesn't show.

Connection issues. Getting kicked out while searching for a game...Happened a few times. I know this will be fixed.

Had a few instances where I was spawned right in the middle of a battle and got killed in less than 2 seconds. Very rare though, don't know if this qualifies as a bug.

Overall or TL/DR

Game is amazing.

Biggest complaint so far: ADS. Throws me off so much.

Other than that, I'm having tons of fun. I don't think Sprint is that bad especially with how your shields don't regenerate while sprinting. The shoulder charge and ground pound are really satisfying when you can pull them off.

Can't wait until the Beta officially kicks off, so I can try some of the other weapons.

Okay, they definitely need to cut down on the particle/lighting effects on Truth. It's fine on Empire, but on Truth you can barely see anything in spots. The bends and Top Mid are particular offenders.

I was up to Silver 3 last night and was holding my own.

Tonight, I've just had the worst team every time. And consistently beaten 20-50.

What is going on :(

And I think this game caters to the casuals more. Telling us when power weapons are about to appear. Come on

I think that just makes it more fair and if anything more competitive. Pros have used timers and things for years to know when weapons are spawning, why not just even the playing field? Not John Q. Shutin knows when the weapons spawn the same time as King Shit Esports. Plus it takes out extra equipment you'd have to have and coaches if you are an esports person. It is only fair.

Ug matchmaking has been painful, playing with a mate or two tonight and when matchmaking if someone drops it boots you out and takes forever.

If you start again it's not long till you have a full game and have to hope nobody drops again.

I agree. Although there id s ting melee lunge

As a green thumb player, I am not feeling the control schemes at all. Can I please just have the Universal Green Fingers layout from MCC?

In the end, I think H2A feels way better

My thoughts so far on the beta:

-I love the map designs so far, though Truth needs to have the lighting turned down a bit in bombast. The brightness is distracting. Also, blue base needs to be tuned so that blue team isn't nearly invisible at mid-long range when in that base.

-All of the weapons seem fine and balanced alright, other than the AR being God tier even at mid and short-long range. They should tune the AR to do less damage at more extreme distance while retaining the pinpoint accuracy. The fact that an AR can effectively take out a BR or DMR player for missing a single burst or shot is dumbfounding to me. Give the AR player a reason to use the weapon as designed at close range, and being good enough to close gaps in range, not a utility knife as a starting weapon. There are bundles of long range rifles on each map set to re spawn frequently, players can pick those up if they want them.

-Shield indication sounds are not noticeable enough, I'm not sure if that is because of the abundance of other in game sounds or if it just hasn't clicked with me yet.

-I like the inability to quick scope after changing weapons, but the time is too extending in my opinion. It feels a tad slow.

-There should be a simple tutorial that can be replayed. A friend of mine will never be able to get good at this game (which means he won't play it) unless he can understand the nuance and map layout better without fear of ruining the teams chance at a win.

-A more explicit timer for shield recharge should be used, the simple triangle icon doesn't convey the time left before use, and isn't located in the best spot for easy viewing either.

-(edit)The ranking system is kind of shit. The fact that I can play in a 4v4 and dominate the other team, having a 4+ k/d with 20+ kills, but be on a losing team with pick ups and lose rank points is broken. Whether playing solo or on a 4 person team, my performance should have some impact on the rank points I recieve. Otherwise bad players that have good teams will be higher rank than I am, essentially punishing good players that aren't only playing with a dedicated team of decent players.

That is all I can think of right now. It is a blast and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the maps and game modes. I'm expecting the simple matchmaking issues to be fixed, if not by the full beta launch, then the full release (for the love of God please). Let me know what you guys think, in my eyes this is all reasonable.

I just went a whole game without a ridicule. That was terrible. Is there somewhere to leave feedback?

Just realized I got the Helioskrill armour set for completing all of the Master Cheif Collections campaign on Legendary. Nice design, looks like the elite's armour a little.
