MindsEye comin in HOT

This kind of reminds me of that Crime Boss game.

I like that there are some janky AA games. As long as it's not $0 or $80 (It's $60) then maybe that would be ok.

I like the AA games. Like the game Wanted.

OK ordered for ps5.
Who is with me for the disaster ride?!
I am not sure what to expect but I know for sure that this is one of these titles that will be impossible to judge from reviews due to everyone already looking for reasons to dislike it.
I had better feeling when buying forspoken. With this, I get more of a "immortals of aveum" feeling. I guess we will see... oh btw I've still not played that :p

I loved forspoken
liked crackdown 3
SR2022 and Immortals of aveum I am yet to play.

It's not shit taste. not at all

I didn't get a chance to see it :messenger_weary:

It looked decent?

It was pre patch gameplay.
The part of vid I've seen was some shooting on a desert, driving across it to a huge (impressively so) building, driving inside, dropping a guy out and going to a cutscene.
Some stutter and fps drop was visible. But graphically it looked impressive and driving physics looked fun. The cutscenes quality seem high too. Maybe it is a real game after all

Impressions from reet era

- Visually, the game is a looker a lot of the time.
- The production values are really good on cutscenes, e.g. mocap, they cooked.
- The mission structure is you go from one mission to the next, including walking, driving and flying between missions as the mission, if that makes sense. You cannot deviate from the golden path during the story, which you are locked into - you fail and restart at checkpoint if you try to play it as an open world. One of the developer interviews called it a "faux open world" and it's exactly that, imagine Cyberpunk 2077 but the game was just the main quest and you were locked into doing that, and the world was there as window dressing, that's MindsEye's story content.
- There's no visible side quests or quests log in the UI.
- There's no visible recoil on weapons - they shake the camera up and down a small amount, but you're just aiming forward really.
- There's Gears of War style snapping to cover.
- Performance - it's bad from the opening cutscene in the desert which doesn't set a great impression however it does improve after that. I ran the full hour with an FPS counter (by using software which counts duplicate frames) and while some sections run great, many are not great. E.g. there's a two minute window during a mission where it averages 18fps. I imagine this will be fixed in future patches. Digital Foundry will definitely want to look at the game I feel, but that said I imagine many gamers simply... won't notice with the day one patch. Some will, though, for sure.
- The missions are surprisingly varied in gameplay so far.
- There's no melee at all.
- There's lots of main characters and they sound well voice acted to me.
- There are a lot of cut scenes.
- There's nothing seen in the footage around shops you can use or anything like that.

Overall I think the written marketing for the game - that it's a tight, linear single player action game - is accurate. I think I'll probably buy it as I now understand what the game is and isn't.

Can someone explain to me why so much negativity about this game? For what I have seen the game looks very good.
Streamers who got invited to play the game say it's junk. Lots of bad visuals, sketchy frame rates and bugs. This game is based off the studio's community creation software package they are promoting. It's a reskin of their Everywhere game showed off way back.

Well, if that bothers you so much, you can focus on this game being compared to Mass Effect Andromeda
Why would I? They have absolutely nothing in common. As you can read from impressions above, the game is good/fine and nothing unfinished like Andromeda.

The acting and voice acting seems good too.

They didnt go to preview events, they had a streamed preview.

They were invited to a digital preview event where the publisher showed them a stream instead of letting play demos themselves.

The B roll was also given by the publisher, they didn't let people record their own footage.

but they didn't play it.
They were shown a video on teams.... how the fuck can you judge any framerate on teams.
But also - who tf shows a game preview on teams. that's sus too

anyway - the youtubers mainly focus on how buggy it looked.. like who cares? cp2077 was also "super buggy" and I finished it day1 on pc no problems.
Not that bugs make or break the game.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Legal Officer (CLO) Both just quit like several days ago...days before launch...yeah, that's usually not a "good" thing.

If both execs jumped ship this close up to release and more or less at the same time.....

yeah.... there ain't no way to glaze and spin that. You have to be willfully optimistic or to use the medical definition, a rube, to not see that as a bad sign.

with that said...

I haven't been paying attention to this game, and so I'm wondering what all the fuss is. So what if it flops? Were great things expected from it or something? Lots of hype behind it? Big budget? I don't get it. Mediocre games come out all the time. Why the focus on this one?

The only thing I could see (as a reason for the focus) was that an ex-Rockstar producer is involved with it. Is that it? Or am I missing something?

It went beyond visuals even if the feed was bad.

Enemy AI was lousy and Luke Stephens made fun how you could shoot a car or truck and it instantly exploded after one shot (he even slo-mo'ed it to show it), and they turned on god mode to get through fights.

Of course a car explodes in a chase sequence. cmon.
And AI was bad is one of more overused statements in gaming. Certainly not something to judge from a short video

That guy (or some other exec at the studio) claimed last month all the negative streamer previews the past month come from a paid off coordinated effort to badmouth the game. Like some mystery person or company is purposely financing all the bad articles and YT previews on purpose.

Absolutely would not surprise me considering the amount of negativity surrounding this game, with absolutely zero to go off on

I won't tell you what to do, but you shouldn't marry with a game till you actually have enough data to form your own conclusions

I was in with the first trailer, then the news about "round maps" (aka incomplete game, add stuff later) hit and I began to be cautious about it, now you have people playing it and not having good things to say about the whole package

Sure, it can be this dude alone, so wait for more data, instead of being so defensive of this game🤷‍♂️

Im not, but I dont see anything egregiously bad either

What people are saying bad things? The impressions posted above are positive.

The game isnt incomplete, they are just adding on to it with more stuff.
