I never knew anything Iggy Azelia , so i checked out a track, ok not for me, but is T.I managing her? So i would assume he has his wife who is really good at making tracks doing some work with her. I thought I was listening to The Brat , but then I heard the lyrics in more depth and it was like more of a pop artist with someone rapping on the song, but her voice was like The Brat.
A lot of hip hop is like that now though, a chant or a glorified club dance song. I just got a feeling Iggy is like , TI and his wife and a ghost writer knowing that they have a persona they can push into a lucrative market and she has the "look". Wouldn't be the first time.
I definitely get what Azaelia Banks is saying as well she has a point.
It would be pretty fucked if she wins a Grammy, though.

True, true, it would still be bullshit, though. But after The Heist beat Kendrick, Ye, Drake and Jay-Z, I wouldn't even be surprised.

I don't think it's really fair to call some of that stuff hip-hop, it's glorified pop music ... the same thing happened with dance music too ...
Lots of shitty artists with shitty albums win Grammies. It's hardly a mark of quality, which is why it's funny when I hear artists who should know better mention it. They only recently started to get marginally more relevant with Arcade Fire and Bon Iver wins (and nominating Bon Iver for best new artist is comedy).

Still, it was pretty shitty to have Macklemore beat some amazing albums - one of which was a rejuvenating album in regards to recent rap. I thought Banks made a good point when she talked about the grammys.

This isn't anything new though. I remember Will Smith winning, which is just as bad. In many cases success at the Grammys just equates to commercial and radio success. It doesn't seem to be related to critical praise in any case.

Nah, most people write Mac Miller off because they only know him for his early internet success and association with "frat rap." His recent output shits all over Macklemore's discography.
EDIT: For the record, I don't even think Macklemore is that bad of a rapper, although I admit I've never owned or listened to his albums. His cadence is decent and it does seem like he writes songs as opposed to lines. He's certainly better than Big Willie Style era Will Smith.
He is hip hop. People are just upset with what hip hop has become today. There are a plethora of rappers speaking all sorts of messages. Sometimes, people don't agree with the message, so they find ways to destroy that artist's credibility.

What do you mean what is happening with Iggy? I am talking about how people hate on Mac Miller. As far as Iggy, the only comment I made about her in a post was earlier in reply to how Azealia Banks thinks Iggy should be in the pop category because she is white.
I don't think Macklemore is a rapper, rather he's a pop star who raps pop music for a pop audience. I say this not because he's a white man but sonically his music has more in common with the portions of kpop songs where the "tough" guy comes on and raps than with anything else we would identify as hip-hop in 2014.
The only thing I don't like about Macklemore is his "Captain Planet" streak, saying shit like "if I was gay I think hip-hop would hate me" on Same Love.

That's a pretty silly distinction to make. Every song of his I've heard (maybe 3-4 songs) feature him rapping. He's a rapper. What is a rapper, other than someone who raps? He's a rapper, regardless of what he raps about.
my bad, I just assumed because I don't remember people actively trying to destroy Mac's credibility. More like people just dismissed him as making frat rap aka white people's rap music.
and he's not even a bad rapper, honestly. he's kinda heavyhanded with his approach and shit, but whatever. he's a rapper. It was weird how everybody was saying Same Love was so important and shit, but Murs released a video with a similar subject matter where he even kissed a man and that went ignored by the press.
I really don't think it's that complicated. He raps over music and sometimes there's a pop hook. It's like most rap singles on the radio. Same with Iggy. In no other genre do people obsess over ghostwriters, authenticity, or the enthinicity of the artist. It's really bizarre.

Personally I think Macklemore is pop rap like most other rap on the radio. Dude was a backpack rapper who is now a huge artist.
I don't think it's anymore silly than seperating things into genres based on how they are produced, constructed conceived, and ultimately who they appeal to. Macklemore raps, he is technically a rapper but his music isn't hip-hop.
