They packaged up a basic version of the game they wanted to make so that they would have a game to release this year.
Those 500 people are continuing to work on the real destiny for 2016.
such witI didn't know it takes 500 ppl to copy and paste.
Just to be clear, none of those 500 people are writers, correct?

That is what playing Destiny is like. Grats, but they reeeeeeeealllllyyyyy need to step it up for the sequel.
So why exactly does it bother you so bad that not everyone likes what you like?absolutely why
Some of you guys need to realize its both possible to like Destiny overall and still have MAJOR problems with it.
Its my 2nd favorite game this year and I played the hell out of it up until the piece of shit "expansion" The Dark Below is.
Destiny has the best shooting mechanics / gameplay Ive played in a long time but the sheer lack of content, Bungie flat out lying on multitudes of times, and overall level up / loot mechanics are worth the criticism the game is receiving.
My only hope is Bungie takes this stuff to heart and delivers a great sequel.
I haven't seen anything to think this is true, especially beyond any doubt. No doubt in my mind the player base for this game has tanked hard.
In my gaming group only one of the six of us still plays.

On the internet? Don't you know something is either the greatest thing ever, or a steaming pile of shit with no redeeming value what so ever.
All of you that are mad seem to be reading this incorrectly...
It says have played, not STILL PLAYING. In my gaming group only one of the six of us still plays.

Almost 13 million people--12,869,066 to be exact--have played Bungie's shooter Destiny, the developer has revealed.
Check the OT. The majority of posts are people looking for others to raid with.
You simply have to ask in the matchmaking thread on this very forum.
Try harder? I could find a raid at almost any time of the day for a normal run on destinylfg when I played, and the OT was always an option too. Hard was a pain though.

Yeah you guys are right but In-game is horrible to try to arrange a raid or looking for a group, you are alone.
I am not sure how Bungie allowed such flawed design in their game.
Have played?
So what is the active player count? Number is pretty misleading to be honest. The game sold a lot, true, but millions can rent the damn thing, play it and its considered a number in this total. Not to mention the incredible number of pre owned copies just at GameStops around the world alone.
I would love to see active numbers.
Ridiculous that 500 people can't come up with more and better content for this game.
I think this next expansion (House of Wolves) is going to blow everyone away. It's the first post-launch expansion where they'll have had enough time to address all the complaints and make something awesome.

"Why?"
Because the game is fun.
lolollololaahahahaa ahhhhaaaah.....http://www.cracked.com/video_19204_6-ways-gamers-have-taken-fun-out-gaming.html
This video LITERALLY sums up my thought about Destiny.
this is like the most amazing thing ever
For a vast number of people, the game is already plenty compelling. I, and several of my friends, have played Destiny regularly since launch. I've put in over 200 hours and I can assure you I'm enjoying it. Completing the raids and the Nightfalls has been some of my most rewarding moments in a game...well, ever. People will misinterpret what I'm saying here, but *personally,* the raids and nightfalls give me that same feeling of reward/accomplishment I felt when taking down bosses in DeS/DS for the first time.I hope at least a few of those 500 people realize they need to make their game more compelling to play.
I played through the campaign of destiny (it would be an utter lie to call it the story mode) and upon beating the game I was done with the game. 1 class , only made it to level 20 and there was just nothing left for me.
If 13 million players are really hooked into the worlds worst skinner box , I guess my thoughts on the game really don't matter much but if bungie does want a player like myself to come back to their game in the future they are going to have to make the second game at least twice as long and every single story mission will have to feel different from the previous one. As well, the bosses take about 4 times longer to kill than they should. Add in a gimmick that allows the fire team to work together to destroy the boss in a few shots instead of just shooting it for 15 minutes(I'm mostly ranting about the one strike on mars).
I've heard the raids actually do remedy this problem a bit but it takes too long to grind up the required equipment needed to even play the first raid, let alone the DLC one. Not to mention the forced 6 person strike team that has to be on your friends list.
I had some fun playing through destiny, the gunplay was good enough to overlook most of the short comings but I was half hoping the entire time "this is cool but I want more story , hopefully there's more story by the end" and in fact the longer it goes on the less of a story there is. How am I supposed to get immersed in a world or give a shit about what I'm doing when the game is basically telling me "none of what you do matters, you are just wasting time grinding for loot in a stupid videogame to kill stronger enemies to get better loot to kill stronger enemies , etc etc etc". I have no reason to play a game that doesn't have a plot. Especially when there's enough lore behind the scenes that destiny SHOULD have a good story, it just chose not to for some reason.
This isn't 1979 anymore, I need more motivation than "space invaders are invading, shoot them". Yet here we are in 2014 and that's pretty much all there is to this game. It's definitely my biggest let down in gaming this past year. I didn't hate it but the more I think about it the less I actually think I liked it. It's maybe a 6/10 experience at best.
I'm convinced that the people who keep playing it aren't enjoying it at all, it's just a well designed skinner box for them.
Thank you.
Seriously, it's not for everyone, but there are still a vast number of people out there (myself included) who actually find the game fun and deep with plenty of content.
