Sold my old car and got a gun as part of the deal. What now?

Do you have anymore anti European jokes to tell?

So I got jumped for stating my opinion about muslims, by people who are dumb anti European racist guys.

I'm not a racist. I don't know what color your skin is. Learn your English again sir. That isn't what racism means. I'm not anti-Germanic either.

What I am is someone who doesn't tolerate bigot shit that you posted, especially without facts and stats to assert your bigotry.

You said some bigoted shit about a large group, purely anecdotal, without hard stats, and you can't even tell me what a Muslim looks like in Berlin or why they account for "90% of criminals".

So tell me again why you aren't bigoted?

I can only talk about the situation we have here in Berlin.
If you are not from here, just be quiet.

I would never voice my opinon about those cops shooting black kids in the US. I am not from there so I keep my mouth shut.

You voiced your opinion about gun policy in Germany in a topic that is mainly referring to American gun policy questions. Had you never mentioned criminality or Muslims, I wouldn't be wasting my time explains in detail why your opinion is bigoted.

The only anti European thing are your insults towards European muslims. Your spin to being the victim here won't fly, you have been exposed.

Just keep digging, you are almost there though.

What a thread. A family friend found a revolver in the trunk of a rental car in Florida. The Sheriff department told them to throw it in the bin if they didn't want it.

Did the instructor actually give you a loaded Glock OP when you don't know much about guns? Doesn't sound too responsible.

If you go to the range with your friend, get them to bring their guns(s) to compare and learn the differences in features, shooting characteristics, etc.

I've been seeing this a lot lately. Race refers to inherited physical traits combined with languages and cultures. There are certainly races of people. Do the people that say this mean species?

The term is defined differently in the EU and USA.
But ever since the 1930's it has been said that all humans are the same race from a biological standpoint.

In all seriousness if I were in your shoes: I'm assuming from the post first time gun owner that's curious.

I'd do the following:
-Check your local laws to confirm if what you just did was legal. Is it legal where you live to receive a firearm like that.

-Ask yourself: Do you have the temperament to own a gun responsibly? Are you quick to anger? To you often do things in the heat of anger that you normally wouldn't do when calm and often regret afterwards? Do you suffer from any thoughts of suicide? If so, in all honesty: Sell the gun and make some money and don't own one.

-Memorize the FOUR rules of Firearm Safety: This is your Bible. It is Holy. You do NOT ever deviate from this. If you do, you or someone will die. Never forget this.

-Read some tutorial articles and watch some videos to know HOW to unload the firearm correctly.

-Unload the firearm correctly.

-Go to a RANGE and pay for a newbie safety course to learn how to fire your weapon correctly.

-Get a lockbox/safe and a trigger lock. Use it.

-Enjoy and welcome! Owning guns is awesome but a pretty significant responsibility.

I can't echo this post enough. Especially the four rules of firearm safety.

How many languages do you speak?
I think it's really racist to make fun of a guy for not getting some little nuance in a foreign language.
but that's how you roll I guess, just like I said before: you are a racist.
Three, one of them is German. Wouldn't logic dictate to stop calling me racist as soon someone explained that nuance you didn't get? Keep digging.

How many languages do speak? You have probably never left the USA.
Why is the color of my skin important now? And what is a bigot?

But please don't answer I will look that up on my own.

It's a nationality. Mr. Dudebro got something right.

If you hate a person for being from a certain nation you are a racist.
Has nothing to do with race (which does not really exist anyways)
No, that makes you a xenophobic, probably a racist too, but at the case in point xenophobia is what you want.

Don't you get it? Guns are EVIL! The only purpose they serve is to kill people and certain bullets are only made to kill people better than the inferior people killing bullets. They are useless for anything besides killing. The op shouldn't touch it and should just sell it in case he accidentally kills someone. Those things have a mind of their own and if you give one the stink eye, it just might kill you itself.

It wasn't until the last sentence I realised that this was meant to be sarcasm.

Jesus Christ, OP is legit going to kill someone. The incompetence is mind numbing.

I can't believe you think a random piece of paper he printed out is a carry license. God damn.

Its just a certificate of the gun course which you apparently need to get the carry license. I'm getting the carry license next week. But thanks for insulting me and shitting on the thread without even taking your time to read a page back

youre ok with having the certificate without having done the course? or did i miss something?

The fact that a tool, a tool that can be used to kill, was used as part of a transaction where money could have easily sufficed. Yes, that is fucking weird for most of the non-gun toting world.

Why? I've seen people offer up all sorts of compensation including video games and electronics. Guns hold their value too so it's actually a really good substitute for money in this instance.

You expected different from a Gun thread on GAF?

If the OP knows who to sell it to and has paperwork that makes his sale legal, yes.

I'm surprised that private sellers can sell firearms to people without licenses in some states.

I feel that if you were to get other items in a trade along with cash there should be a bit of overpay to compensate. I mean you are basically getting exact if not a bit less especially around Christmas time when there are deals.

Im not really a fan of buying used guns unless its the only way to get it or Ill shoot it a bit then sell it.
GAF is full of gun experts.
Sarcasm_meter_explode.gif

Am I reading this right that the instructor OP got the gun from just signed off on a concealed weapons permit for him to sweeten the deal? With absolutely no instruction or training in the matter?

I mean wow GAF, I'm more flabbergasted at the fact only a handful of people know gun laws in this thread.

:/

Uh, are you sure? If a gun course is supposed to be required for the CCW and this dude is just signing off on a fictional course you took then you're taking part in fraud and, since this involves guns (even in Florida), potentially asking for a lot of trouble. And, since we're talking about carry here, it is also amazingly boneheaded and dangerous. If you don't know how to handle and use it you damn well shouldn't be worried about being able to carry it.

Here in Berlin Muslims account for 90% of criminal activity. They get their guns from turkey and libanon. Us Germans can't buy them....

Not only is he a xenophobe but a dumb one as well. According to officials there are about 30 million weapons (most of them illegal) in Germany. That's about 1/4 of Germans.

Because it was a good deal. I was already thinking about getting a gun for self defense before so I just agreed

First off, a handgun is pretty crappy for self/home defense unless you're a crack shot, meaning lots of practice. Even then, if someone breaks into your house at 3 am, you're gonna be half asleep, it's gonna be dark and you think it's going to be as easy as reaching into your night table and pew pew? You aren't gonna hit shit, except possibly someone else in the house (hint drywall is terrible at stopping stray bullets).

A gun is nothing more than a false sense of security and empowerment, it's an illusion. I say get rid of it.

Glad I don't live in Florida reason #1231425632, OP. You make me nervous. Have you taken selfies in the mirror yet with the gun sideways?

Serious though,PLEASE take a course and a consult your state laws. I own a Glock as well as a couple other weapons. It's a beautiful handgun but lacks safety features that could save a newbs life. At the very least when handling or storing it NEVER keep one in the chamber. It doesn't take a second to pull the slide and use it if need be. Put in your range time and a handling/ownership course and you will be fine OP.

As others have said home defense weapon of choice is a shotgun, many non lethal but fuck them up options to load it with. That simple unmistakable pumping noise is enough to send a would be burglar running. Plus you don't get the penetration which could hurt a neighbor or family member behind the next wall.

edit: and as far as the bullet you posted, that is a hollow tip that spreads out on impact to do more damage and slow penetration. The rounded tips are for the range as they are cheaper and you don't wanna use those around the house, unless it's a zombie outbreak.

EDIT 2: Keep you finger off the damn trigger, loaded or unloaded. <- Best Advice in this thread.

Not only is he a xenophobe but a dumb one as well. According to officials there are about 30 million weapons (most of them illegal) in Germany. That's about 1/4 of Germans.

That's a misleading number. It mostly refers to long guns that became illegal due to a law change in 1972. Yeah technically illegal weapons, but if you talk about illegal weapons, most people wouldn't talk about hunting rifles you could acquire via a home order catalog. And it includes Gas Pistols and BB guns.

5,5 million guns are registered btw.

For the exact reason he just said and that you failed to address. The tiny difference between guns and electronics is that one is a tool for killing people.

My advice for the OP... go watch Falling Down on Netflix/BluRay.

Let Michael Douglas enlighten you on how to use your new gun responsibly.

shoot your new car a few times

speed holes baby

I'm going to make a gun mega thread on laws and general information after I finish my NFA stuff on the 30th. Regardless of politics people just need to understand the law and how to be safe with a gun.

I'd actually really appreciate if you did this. I'm going to be in the market for a starter rifle next year and would like to know the basics.

The type of gun used in home defense varies depending on the specific use case. Small apartment? Large condo? House? Two story home? Property defense outside of the home? Neighbors nearby or half a mile away? Kids in the house? Their room upstairs? Downstairs? Near the stairs?

All that shit factors into what type of gun to buy. shotguns tend to be the preference but it's not absolute. People have and do use handguns for home defense successfully and don't hurt family members or neighbors. Speaking in absolutes isn't really gonna hold water.

A gun is nothing more than a false sense of security and empowerment, it's an illusion. I say get rid of it.

Once again, speaking in absolutes isn't doable. ANY security measure could be a false sense of security and empowerment. But that'd be under the incorrect assumption that said security measure guarantees your safety and security. I think most people comprehend that its not. There are no absolutes with ANY security measure. But that shouldn't stop someone from judging their situation themselves and then make the appropriate choice for them.

For the exact reason he just said and that you failed to address. The tiny difference between guns and electronics is that one is a tool for killing people.

It CAN be used for killing people. It's not the soul use or even the main one really. I used electronics as one example. People trade cars all the time and they can kill people as well. They can also be used as a deadly weapon and I'm pretty sure they cause more deaths in America too.

If it's a tangible item that holds value and is legal to own then I'm not sure why anyone would be shocked it can/will be traded.

I've been told that a lot. More of a storage, safety and legality thing than a "which one to buy" thing.

Get a trigger lock and don't worry about the rest. You can break the bank for a gun safe, but trigger locks are cheap. Also a case to prevent corrosion. You'll need a cleaning kit as well as you need to clean the gun after each use. Gunpowder residue and all that.

Thanks. I was aware of trigger locks, but didn't know they were the preferred method. Also didn't know to clean after every use. Much appreciated.

I feel like I've never had a chance to post this GIF, and I can't think of a better thread for it.

OP: Most people suggest not owning a pistol for home defense, there are a number of reasons which other posters have already gone over in this thread. You should just sell the thing and get a shotgun if you aren't planning on carrying it around with you outside your home. Shotguns are cheaper anyways.
