Dead or Alive: Last Round's Soft Engine Comparison (PS3/PS4)

wouldn't be DOA without making sure everyone knows that it's the boobs that are far bigger a priority than the fighting gameplay ever was

To be fair, DoA5 is generally seen as having the best gameplay in the series. The new team took it seriously and tried to make it more for the tournament scene. Which was apparently something that Itagaki was always against.

That was disapointing.

i was actually expecting a video comparing soft body simulation and physics. Since the DOA games are some sort of benchmark for measuring advances in rendering between generations.

Most say this is the less evolutionary port job between generations i ' ve seen for the series. Not much difference that i could see. Sad, really since the extra GPU capacity could be perfect for runing physical based animations for cloths and hair.

Yeah, I'm hoping they scrap the current engine for the next DOA.

Most game engines have switched to PBR. The environments in DOA5: LR look hideous.

I'll take your word for it. I've always thought DOA was a really bad fighting game series, so of course I definitely wasn't going to try for a fifth time with DOA5 :P

But I hope it is great for people who got into DOA5 obviously

You can always try it out for yourself since Tecmo has a F2P version of it on the PS3. It includes Kasumi, Hayate, Ryu, and Ayane. You get access to all modes except for the story mode. There's also a F2P version coming to the PS4 and Xbox One once Last Round is released.

Oh I didn't know that. I guess i'll try it since it's free whenever it comes to PS4.

Surprisingly, I do see a noticeable difference in the PS4 screenshot. I mean the graphics(could be lighting). I thought it would look virtually identical. Oh yeah, the moment is more realistic also. I just noticed.

Will the PC version have this or are we getting the PS3 version like with DW8?

Will this come with all/most of the DLC costumes, or will it still have like $500000000 of DLC?
The latter. And they are adding more all the time, as you can see by their twitter announcements. Rather than include a billion costume pieces and letting us go crazy like Tekken, they are individually selling a billion carefully crafted ones.

Don't know yet... but still, I preordered it. To be fair, I wouldn't be mad if PC version didn't get this... after seeing what it is... it's disappointing :/

Oh, is this it? I was assuming it was just one feature shown in a longer demonstration that someone had singled out for lulz.

I also preordered because I want all fighting games on PC and also thought there was no chance for this so it was exciting. I haven't played the series since DOA2 on Dreamcast.

Boobs aside, the skin actually does look considerably better (less polygonal) and the lighting improvements are great too. I wasn't expecting much beyond this when they announced the Soft Engine (come on, it's a port). I just hope they fix the jaggies

This would influence my purchasing decision - positively.

Although what I really want in a fighting game (or any game) is to have a muscle and bone physics engine similar to what the Euphoria Engine did in Red Dead Redemption with the muscles on the horses realistically flexing when they ran - but taken further. Having a character's muscles and skin visibly react to movement, or being able to see a character's ribs or other skeletal outline become visible when they breathe, stretch, etc. would be incredible.

I feel like that's the ultimate destination of physics engines such as this.

Is this an updated version of older versions of DoA5, or a sort of sequel? For example, with P4A and P4AU, they changed the story modes for all characters to link them as a duology. I believe SFIV and SSFIV did this. Is DoA5:LR like that, or just an updated version of DoA5, containing everything the older games did with differences only on a gameplay level?

I would love to see that also. I think UFC on X1and PS4 accomplished something similar to what you described with the muscles. Seeing skeletal outlines, actually bone structures or ribs would be amazing though. DOA6?

It's just a next gen enhanced version, I am pretty sure.

I don't really see any differences besides less contrast and less saturated colors in the ps4 pic.

A bit hard to be impressed after seeing XV's skin shaders though.

I think all "next-gen" fighting games so far have been disappointing in that regard. These should be perfect showcases for full cloth and hair physics on the characters.

For an RPG the scale of FFXV, it's definitely like the East's answer to Skyrim or something. Like, an unashamed Japanese RPG with true open world aspirations. The natural "movement A.I." of NPCs in town is quite impressive. I hope they go on a cycle similar to Radiata Stories so it doesn't get too repetitive looking and stays convincingly real life.

I also like someone else's idea of dialogue in towns being similar to GTA at times, where you just pass people on the streets having natural conversations or shouting out funny/interesting/weird information instead of needing to directly talk to them. And a few select NPCs within these groups can be stopped and give sidequests, give items out, etc.

DOA6 probably will do, to be fair. Last Round is just a port of DOA5.

I think I recall reading that UFC does have a system with realistic muscle movement; I will have to check it out.

I'm glad someone else feels the same way about how awesome a bone visibility physics implementation would be. No more static, plastic characters. I've brought up this to a number of people, but they typically don't seem to understand or think it'd be anything special. I feel that seeing something like this in action though would really convince people.

cant wait for 1080p 60fps boobs on PC

...what?
