LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Xbox One didn't work for me by just restarting the console so I unplugged the ethernet cord and then put it back in and it's working now.

Happy gaming if what I did works for you.

Is this a US thing or something? UK PSN has rarely failed me and I'm on pretty regular. I had a few bumps at launch and the following month or two but found out there was an error in communication in the router as my friends on the same ISP had the exact same issue and once that was sorted out it's been smooth sailing ever since. Plus my internet is atrocious in both stability and speed all around yet it still gets by.

I'm in the U.S, west coast and it's rare for my network being down unless it's an attack like this one.

Only replying because I think this question is funny.
But yes, having sex/losing your virgintiy has long been considered when a boy becomes a man. Not just "these days". But back when people rode dinosaurs and faught Dragons also. Still today many tribal cultures use sex as a step in their ritual practices to entering manhood.

See above.

yeah and back in the day slavery was advocated and cigarettes didn't cause cancer.
sex at a young age had NOTHING to stop with becoming a man these days you're a bit behind.

While these are just a bunch of immature kids, at least these attacks highlight some bad consumer practices that have taken place recently. Requiring people to be constantly online for single player games, not being able to use your console without constant updates and so on.

So in that sense I have less sympathy for Sony and MS. And just because people are inconvenienced for a few hours does not warrant long jail sentences or "removing xyz from society for a long time". Most people do stupid things when they grow up, these kids just happen to have better tools at their disposal.

But they are idiots no doubt, most teenage boys are.

There are ways but little appetite to implement them.

One way would be for ISPs to implement port blocking by default for anything other than web proxies and popular game services/etc. Botnets need a control framework, one popular method is an IRC connection. Make people sign into their account to remove the blocks. The vast majority of the kinds of people who constantly pick up viruses, won't even know the filtering is there because CNN and Facebook still work.

Another way that would make a significant difference is sadly illegal. DDoS is possible because of botnets. Botnets primarily exist because of malware written for Windows. If you had some of your own malware that tried to spread via existing infection back doors for a week, and then basically killed the machine so it booted into a 'Your computer was full of viruses and it has been disabled, please take it to a professional to have your files safely copied off' screen, you'd see the sizes shrink. It's been punted around as an idea for years but nobody has had the guts to do it yet.

The open and unfiltered internet is going to end because of people like this. And at this point I'd have to begrudgingly support that.

Why? Because these attacks happen a few times every year and are a minor nuisance all things considered? That's reason enough for you begrudgingly accept that we give away more freedoms in the name of some abstract goal. Okay.

Crap. I was online in Destiny, server kicked me out for being idle and now I can't connect because of this. So, any way to keep yourself from being kicked out by the server?

Xbox Live Works fine here, Psn does not. My brother can login on psn with is ps4, i cant and we live close, same isp, same country, same city..

Stupid kids.

Managed to log in XBL in Mexico, but PSN is down.

Just before midnight, I was playing BF4 on my PS3 and servers were almost empty. Think it's affecting some areas? I dunno.

Nah I'm in the US and PSN works just fine for me aside from attacks like these as well. There just seems to be people that have extra issues with it for some reason. But as usual there's Captain Hyperboles on each side of the fence.

PSN been out all morning for me and we just got a PS4. Luckily we got a few physical games. If we were banking on buying and downloading digital downloads we would be without any games to play

I was able to get to the dashboard after I used the offline update tool for the Xbox One. It seems like it was able to communicate with LIVE long enough to validate my credentials and pull up my gamertag. But then I popped in Master Chief Collection, installed it from the disk, and then got hit with an 18GB update that won't even let me launch the game while it's installing. I can't even play campaign offline. WHAT THE FOCK!?

LOL

My PSN in the past 3 months

- Unable to download or access pre-order DLC
- Unable to restore licenses
- Unable to download pre-ordered games due to error.

While all these matters have been resolved it isn't due to Sony's support who have still yet to deal with my ticket I submitted 5 weeks ago - it is due to the advice from GAF members and Reddit.

Oh, and for the past 3 weeks I've not been able to delete messages.

I love Sony but my word my 360 was much better as far as online experiences go. And that was a generation before. The fact we pay for this service and Sony has had years to learn it's lessons from live, it still is a bit wonky for me (UK). I think ever since Destiny launched I've had issues with PSN loads. It's never really sorted itself out. Before Destiny it was functional and stable from my personaly experience. But since then, a lot of things have messed up. i.e:

1. Messages taking forever to receive
2. Trophy's taking forever to load up once they pop up on the screen
3. Online friends list not loading up properly (much better since 2.0 update)
4. Increased DDOS attacks (can't be helped I know) but it's dropped out a few times because of this
5. Like poster said before, pre-order dlc not working
6. What's new section not working when PSN is under stress.
7. Unable to load game invites
8. Messages stuck on 97% when trying to send them to friends. A tiny piece of text takes longer than forming up a party and chatting to the person who just messaged me...

All this since Destiny has happened to me. ony my ps3 last gen none of this happened apart from the big PSN hack and apart from a few days of live not working it was super stable 90 percent of the time. I'm just not seeing our PS+ sub money going into server infrastructure to be fair!

Rant aside I love my ps4 but these little things frustrate me so much mainly because they are basic things that were so easily done last gen. I mean for gods sake I get a message notification on my phone BEFORE I get it on my ps4. And I have to wait 5 minutes for it to load up after I have the notification on my ps4, then another 2 minutes to send a reply.

I know DDOS attacks are really hard to avoid but something needs to be done as it's only going to get worse I think.

Shit that this happens to you. I hope it gets sorted for you.

It doesn't bother me all the time as I predominantly play offline anyway but I know I'm not the only one with these issues. I find it weird how it's all happened since Destiny and quite a few people have had issues since that period too. /shrug

I glad I own mostly physical media. None of these services being down have affected me.
One thing for sure is that Lizard Squad is showing people and companies that digital future is too far away, and forcing people to get away from their TV screen and celebrate Christmas together.

Fixed that a bit for you.

Yes, it does, because it's fucking illegal.

I'm not arguing the legality here, just the seriousness of the crime. These kids are not the only people who possess a sense of entitlement if you believe they should be sent away for inconveniencing you for a few hours. We should be the adults here.

I'm also frustrated for not being able to play with friends but these corporations should be held accountable for people not being able to play single player games during such attacks. There is no reason for this "you must be online" nonsense.

That's what sucks for me. I'm going all digital this gen.

I'm talking about the wider world here. DDoS attacks happen every single day, they are not a minor inconvenience, it is not a minor crime. ISP default filtering is not a scary loss of freedoms, that's some serious hyperbole. Do you own a cellphone? Did it come with international calls blocked by default? Mine did. I didn't consider it an affront to my freedom, I simply had the block turned off. Done.

You know you can play games with other people. And if it's a Christmas present, why the hell wouldn't you play with it?

Feeling pretty vindicated with my Ubisoft boycott right about now. Every year there's something. If it's not "unprecedented" demand from consumers it's just an inability to cope with attacks.
