Got a new 2TB HD from my wife for Xmas to upgrade my PS4. I copied everything over and made the switch and now I have a barebones PS4 without any games or apps because I can't connect to PSN. I really hope this doesn't go on for days. Was looking forward to playing a little during my time off.
That sounds exactly like getting back at society, behind the computer monitor they are no longer meek and weak
Most of them are just a bunch of trolls who use pre made scripts and what have you, but others are extremely skillful and might have a bright future if they could just move past this phase and concentrate on something more productive or moral. Not saying this applies to Lizard Squad but there is no way I could have pulled off something of this magnitude when I was a teenager. I just don't think we should pay too much attention to these guys/girls, what is more surprising is Sony's incompetence as their service is still going through difficulties. How long has it been since this attack allegedly ended?
All these attacks and hacking scandals are really painting a grim reality as to how efficient corporations are at safeguarding our information or just fighting through these difficulties. I mean is this going to happen every month now? Some ragtag group of Squad XYZ is constantly going to break through barriers and expose sensitive information while our governments invest billions on useless programs to spy on random citizens? This is like a comedy show.

Woke up and XBL is working (for now at least). Is PSN still down or is Lizard Squad still going for the "lolz"?
EDIT: From reading posts above it would appear to still be down for some. Fucking loser squad. All of those kids yesterday who got brand new PS4's or XB1's and couldn't play with them. You really gotta be a disturbed person if you find joy in trying to ruin Christmas for so many people.

My xbox one play to streaming function doesn't work without being logged into live.
Only option is to play on the PC. Think I'll play some AC unity.

my cousin (neighbor) is able to connect without any problems. psn on ps4 and destiny on ps4... me trying to log on at the same time. no success. i dont get it.

PS3 and PS4 PSN are different servers right? A few people were saying that last night. So that would make sense if the PS3 was hardly effected.

And using that old stereotype only serves to fuel the fire. Those who actually have social anxiety will feel like they are fighting against a bunch of jocks while others just shrug it off completely. People could at least try to direct them towards something more productive even if that is a wasted effort - though telling them to attack X instead of Y would be illegal of course so that's not something I would recommend...

I wish I understood the technicalities of what the companies could have done differently to prevent this. It does seem like Xbox Live is back up, but they got warnings a few weeks ago that this was coming.

There is nothing they can do. DDoS is flooding a service with request. The only thing they can do, is having Bigger roads. But if they had bigger roads, hacker would send more fake cars. It will be still jammed because it's easier to send fake cars than build massive roads for... nothing.
MS stood better because they have a massive server park because it's their business (like amazon or google or facebook) so it's much harder to flood them all. But for sony or any other company...

The psn sign-in and the online store are still down here in Italy. It would be interesting to know how much sony and microsoft lost on digital sales.

I don't understand computer science stuff, but I find it odd that a company can't do nothing at all about a DDOS attack ? Basically that means that all the infrastructures of the western world (and some far more important that PSN or XBL) are at the mercy of a 14 years old ? If that's true, it's quite scary.
If you Google "Xbox", the vast majority of image results are for the OG Xbox. If you Google "Xbox 1" that image appears on the first page of results. Blame MS ad their idiotic naming convention.
Yeah it is on the BBC as well.

No one is giving in, because that's what they want. They want people to be annoyed and blaming Sony and Microsoft or firing insults at them.
Best approach is to just not be annoyed about it, it's happened, it will be fixed.

I grew up in an era where you got hit with a wooden spoon if you stepped out of line, it worked, now a days, parents aren't allowed to discipline their children and they grow up to be little punks like lizard squad
Because these people are not from the US. It will take some time, until the USA(FBI) provides proof and the UK takes actions. They are probably busy with more important things anyways
OR these guys are really as good as they claim to be and they can't be found.
