I'm saying that there is a fundamental problem with the Internet, one that needs to be addressed, and the longer it goes unaddressed the more of these kinds of events we'll be seeing. It only ramps up from here.

I don't think giving up on the internet is even an option, it's practically a municipal commodity now. I certainly don't think we should be paying "protection money" to people who could, or might, DDoS a corporation. I do think this is a problem way too big for a single person, or company, to solve. I know that places like Google are actively working to find a solution, but since there is no turn-key solution to it, it's going to take time, and a lot more cooperation from the economic world as a whole.

A well-reasoned and eloquent response. My biggest concern is that high-profile hacks and DDoS events may pave the way for a far more policed internet: will governments be able to legislate to get ISPs to provide more detailed info to agencies to prevent the North Koreans or the Lizard People from stealing Christmas? How long will it be before an NGO empowered to identify botnets is reading your browsing history and forum posts?

Every month when I get offered over 100 dollars worth of free games across all my devices I'm glad I AM a subscriber to PSN.

Some people just look for any chance to rag on Sony no matter what. Both services were down and LIVE for me still isn't 100%. But I also take into consideration that Sony has more platforms and more users to support so it actually does make sense they're having a longer down time effect from this so it is what it is.

East coast, PS4 went online earlier.

But my PS4 in general has been acting shady and I'm not sure if it's related. Alien Isolation would hang on the boot up pic, even after a couple retries and system restarts. It wasn't until I turned off "connect to internet" and gave the PS4 a gentle tap upon boot up when it booted. Not sure if either of those did the trick or if it was just a coincidence. (Played last night and I'm prety sure I was connected to the internet. When playing, I noticed the framerate was more chuggish than normal. Not sure if it was just the area I was in though.

This says PSN is offline https://support.us.playstation.com/ but I do realize some people can get on and the experience is obviously different for everyone. Earlier I had 13 friends online now I only have 4 online so it seems like people are facing different situations.

There are a lot of fake LS accounts, half of them likely by LS themselves to sow misinformation. There is no post like that on the account I think is legit (LizardMafia). Four hours ago, they posted "To clarify, we are no longer attacking PSN or Xbox. We are testing our new Tor 0day." which is consistent with the timing of things.
