Fuck it. Dreamcast weekend it is..
Maybe because I wanted to play something online on my PS4?
Sorry, I'm really out of the loop with all of this and way behind on things (been a busy holiday week) but I thought another hacker group outed these Lizard guys a couple weeks ago? Did that turn out not to be true or did it not really do anything to stop them from still doing this kind of stuff?
I thought after that happened the police would have gotten involved or something.
PSN it not "turned off" I am playing on it right now

I love the non-satire "Christmas ruined" comments doing the rounds and in the media.
Please, remind me again what you THINK Christmas is about..?

ugh, just imagine how much worse this could've been with Microsoft's original plans...

This could easily ruin someones Christmas especially if it was someone younger.I love the non-satire "Christmas ruined" comments doing the rounds and in the media.

Stupid question here... my Asus Router has an option for "Enable DoS protection" which goes on to say that it can protect against a DoS attack at the cost of an increased router workload. So, is this just a basic protection that cannot truly stop an attack or can it really prevent it? If so, how does PSN not have this ability?
I don't mean to imply anything with this question, just curiosity to how this works.
p.s. should I enable this option?

I''ve seen many suggesting the x1 build quality being superior to ps4...There is no reason PSN security wise cannot be on par or further ahead then live....MS didnt invent security.
Good luck with that online and Xbone buddy-o![]()
Is it worth being miserable for the entire day? I've come back to games for decades. If something doesn't work and it's something out of their control then it takes time. It's one of the more valuable things I've learned being a gamer. It can suck, but it's not something I'll base a judgement call on. I'm not going to be mad unless it's continuous.
I've had broken consoles before. I've literally sat there crying. I just got over it. If I have to wait till Monday to play then that's fine. I just want it working at some point in time. Otherwise it turns out to be fast food. You cram it in and then it's gone. It becomes something very cheap. I could play 4 to 5 games in the span of 10 minutes. Exiting and starting each game. It gets real cheap after a while, so Sony can take their time to fix it.

Imagine you live in a house and you only let in people whom you designate as friends. Unfortunately, the only way to tell if someone is your friend is they have to ring a doorbell, and you have to go up to the door, open it and physically check if they are your friend or not before you let them in.
Now, if it was normal internet traffic, you can handle this simple task fairly well.
Now if a DDOS was going on, imagine millions of people (who have no business being there) rushing to your door, and each one constantly ringing the doorbell, and you having to keep getting back up, open the damn door, and check each one.
I mean, by your example, a system is already in place like that: authetication/security certificates. But like I said, you still have to actually check each connection to even verify. A DDOS is just the massive traffic spike while the server is going crazy trying to figure out who the hell is trying to come in.
why not just have your friends do a special door bell ring sequence? that way you know when its a friend or some random asshole.
Aha, you forget the part about the million assholes at your front door all trying to ring the doorbell.
Your legitimate friends might actually be in that million, and they're trying to get to the door... but they can't, because there's a million assholes trying to ring the damn doorbell.
By some miracle, one of your friends actually makes it to the doorbell, THEN you let them in. This is why during a DDOS attack, you might get amazingly lucky and actually be able to log in. By pure dumb luck, you managed to initiate a handshake and the server went "oh thank fucking god, someone who isnt an asshole" and lets you in.
But then you do the stupid thing, and realize that you forgot something in your car, so you have to go back outside. And goddamit, the only way back in is through those million assholes. This is also why if you're already logged in, you're could be perfectly fine, but as soon as you do the stupid thing and log out, you're screwed.
I got 9 right now. Guess Im lucky. I am able to sign in and out no problem.Lol I checked my friends list on my mobile app an hour ago and noticed you were the only one online![]()
Moments like this Im glad that I am not a subscriber of psn.
Xmas is ruined, i demand 1 billion dollars from Sony.
Live is back up and has been for 12 hours or so. thread title is a bit behind. So both are still down? How long can this realistically continue, if it's really Lizard Squad DDoSing and not just a regular spike in activity around Christmas?
You should look up the difference between DoS and DDoS. They're not the same.
Every month when I get offered over 100 dollars worth of free games across all my devices I'm glad I AM a subscriber to PSN.

EA servers have shat the bed as well.
I'm not bothered to that extent, just genuinely interested in the differences in infrastructure of two similarly priced products is all

I dont even know what to say to his comment, just that, Does it matter if they didnt?, but in perspective you are trying to compare the software technology, experience and resources of a company like MS, against one that doesnt have that. but If you believe a troll group over what you have seen so far on a service that has more than 10 years and no publicly known Hack, then go right ahead. I will drop this topic now.
I don't know what you're on about exactly here, but I'm sure there are a lot of kids-teens out there who have had a pretty disappointing holiday because of this.
I enjoy playing games not making backlogs.
That makes sense. I think if I'm able to get on that kind of debunks the whole Sony shut down PSN rumor though wouldn't it?Must have to do with how the traffic is routed from your location back to the main PSN core. I'm guessing everyone hits different local severs in their region.
Would explain why I never have problems with PSN or download speeds but others seem to.

Sony uses a FreeBSD based OS
MS uses a Windows based OS
They could have similar employees, but their infrastructures are totally different.
Who knows what services they both use. They'd probably sue each other if things collided too much. They can't be buddy-buddy considering they're each other's competition. You have to think MS would call in their PC engineering side if things got technical. Sony might have the same thing, but I believe Sony just cut their PC division.
Italy here:
-PS3 is up
-PS4 still down
-Didn't try with Vita
Things now are getting a bit too ridiculous.
