LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

STATUS: Shit still broken for some, working for others.
CAUSE: Fucked if anyone knows anymore. Is it another DDoS? Did the Sony monkies pull the wrong cable? Are Microsoft and Sony ninja currently attacking each other's castles?

SUGGESTION: Jack Daniels.

There's a bottle of Red Label and a copy of Alien: Isolation sitting on my table next to me. I think I'll join you.

Yes this has been understood already
I just hate and hate more that some are ooh
so calm about this, like ya expecting the best
fairytale ending. Sorry but I am seeing weird signs here.

Why Sony personas are not speaking?, where is Kaz? Where is Shu? Why are you all so calm for?.

Anyways I know how I feel about this, I say it some of you are too calm about whats probably an attack at Sony being trolled on by these lizards tools.

Thank you for offering up an alternative perspective, Joeki11a.

It is concerning. It would be diligent of them to take the network down voluntarily and fully investigate a potential security breach of customer information, then prepare a full statement. Personally, I value that much more than a few days of video gaming.

Fuck me for wanting my shit to work, right? Sad that you guys devolve to arguing the toss with me and others just because we want our stuff to work. I don't care for the specifics at all and I doubt most people trying to get on PSN or XBL do.

If you're unhappy then go make your own network and try and protect it against something that would cripple anyone. Not everything can work 100% of the time. It's not even Sony/mpMicrosofts fault : At a certain point think if everyone is against you then maybe it's you?

Cheap red wine and starting season five of Breaking Bad on a rewatch here. (Watching with a friend in NY, it's her first time.) Probably Smash after if destiny still won't load.

wanted to play destiny with my bro who's a few states over.....bought the game for him so we could have some christmas bonding time.... :{

I just had to explain to my mother what a ddos attack was. Why you doing this to me lizard squad...

I just posted this to Facebook. Sound about right?

It's a bunch of morons flooding the services with internet traffic. Imagine the services are like a sink with the plug out. Normal internet traffic is like a dribbling tap. These pricks have essentially brought a firehose to the party and are pointing it right in the sink. It can't cope, so it overflows. And then won't function. Until someone cuts off their water supply, it won't stop.

I just had to explain to my mother what a ddos attack was. Why you doing this to me lizard squad...

hahahaha so did I

I used the assholes at your door analogy during the BBC news report. my parents understood what I said

and also, the BBC news report had this guy saying "fuck, I'm angry, sony should get their shit together" (paraphrased). They didnt explain what the attack was either, just "we are not sure yet what caused the issues". Why isn't anyone explaining DDOS in simple terms to the public and ensuring they are aware Sony/MS are not at fault? useless fools.

Question: which computers are used to enable a DDOS attack?
Are it all computers that have been affected by malware and are part of a botnet

That is how it is usually done from my understanding, at least for big servers.

But then also add into the fact that a lot of people got consoles for Christmas and add to the load.

So what's the latest on this?

PSN/XBL will be up when it's up, I get that. We are kind of at the mercy of whatever.

What's all this crap about Finest Squad and Anonymous and whatnot?

A DDoS in no way implies a beach in consumer data. At all.

It would be like a bank closing its doors for the day because there's a long line to get to the teller.

What is the solution? Your post states there is none, therefore as far as your statement is concerned the service should just pack it up and not exist then. Cant catch them, cant protect against it.

You know what's really mind blowing to me is the all the posts in this thread defending the service and persecuting the people upset what they are paying for isn't working. The blame game is getting twisted around to be on them.

But that is a wrong and incorrect view. The correct view is to look at the service being paid for and the environment it has to operate on and determine its value. So if this is a regular, unavoidable thing, guess what then the value is much less. There are so many analogies that could be made to these events that in their context are completely accepted and yet talking about this online situation suddenly everyone starts acting illogically.

The solution is to fix the fundamental problem with the very fabric of how the internet works, and that can only be done by throwing it out and making a new one. The current internet works on a protocol designed in the 70s when nobody conceived of how it could be turned into a weapon. Imagine that.

I do not defend Sony or Microsoft in this. I have not defended them at any point, and have lambasted Sony so... so many times in this thread over the last few days. But you weren't here to see that, so it doesn't exist.

The blame sits entirely with the group initiating the DDoS attack.

I don't know what YOU want. It sounds like you want the Magic of Capitalism to swoop in and save everyone from this horrible experience by.. what. Having people not pay Sony for anything anymore, and using something else instead... except there is no defense against this kind of DDoS, for anyone. Not even Google.

We sure as fuck hope this isn't a regular thing. This is a worrying trend, especially since every day more people are realizing how easy it is to push this button in the internet, and make it squeak.

Regardless, don't come in here and talk down to the people who have been offering solutions, advice, and explanations for the last three days and treat them like some idiot children who don't know how the Big Boys in Business are supposed to play. The reality is, there's a lot of blame to go around in this situation, plenty, bucketloads - but this is not a thread for dogpiling on whoever the current target du jour is.

I don't even know what the hell it is you want people to do. Rage? Scream? March on Sony and Microsoft and demand their firstborn?

Thank you for what? Talking nonsense?
A DDoS attack is not a hack. You can read this little info 3849839483984 times in this very thread already.

I need to hear from Shu, Boyles, Kaz anybody from Sony asap. MS sent Spencer out asap dont sent these kids into the weekend expecting a fairy tale ending, tell them the truth and a time line when this will be resolved.

If that doesnt happen by Monday we are seeing perhaps the biggest DDoS attack ever?

Will we ever game online in 2014???...

Two rival hacker factions (god that sounds so bad), with some people thinking Finest Squad is a front for the Lizards.

We have no idea what the entire attack entails. As one of their customers I would rather them be safe than sorry, and I think Sony of all companies right now should feel the same.

I want my shit to work too, but I don't want PS+ to cost 1,000/year so it be as susceptible to DDoS attacks. It sucks when this happens, but don't get mad at MS/Sony. This is a gaming service, not a critical financial service that needs 100% guaranteed uptime. MS and Sony are trying to make money, not piss away millions of dollars to prevent DDoS attacks.

This is a business, you can only spend so much on "insurance" before youre throwing tons of money into a fire for no reason. Its risk management.

This.

Chase spends 250Million dollars annually to upkeep their servers and IT security.
And guess what, they still get breach and DDoS.

Talking down to people? Lol wow don't blow my fucking mind with that drivel. Apparently you have skipped all the posts of people outright claiming all the people upset about this are incredibly stupid morons that don't understand how a DDOS works and need it spelled out for them like children. The talking down is coming from the other end, not the people mad they cant get online.

Its a DDOS attack. nothing is hacked as stated many times in this thread.

I think he's suggesting that the DDoS could have been cover for other nefarious actions.

Like starting a commotion at the front door to distract people while you steal through the back door.

I don't know if that's possible or likely but that's how I interpreted that post.

I haven't been able to get on PSN now since xmas day. Got Destiny for Christmas and haven't been able to even get as far as the main menu in the fucking game. This is such bullshit. I know its probably hilarious to these idiots that they think they ruined some kids Christmases, but its adults with limited gaming time and full time jobs theyre fucking over too.

Thats how PSN got hacked and that user data was stolen...
