LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

I can agree with this for sure. I just don't think free AAA games should be the answer whenever PSN fucks up.
No absolutely not its outside the scope of the agreement but we are paying for 365 days of service and are not getting that amount of value. They should be contractually obligated to provide the difference without charge at the end of our subscriptions.

Talking down to people? Lol wow don't blow my fucking mind with that drivel. Apparently you have skipped all the posts of people outright claiming all the people upset about this are incredibly stupid morons that don't understand how a DDOS works and need it spelled out for them like children. The talking down is coming from the other end, not the people mad they cant get online.

I have not at any point accused anyone of being a stupid moron if they didn't understand how it works. I've been spending most of my time trying to explain the situation to anyone who asks, since the thread started.

This really is unacceptable. Not blaming Sony but once again it doesn't look good. Laws need to be updated or introduced to help combat this sort of thing.

I think a 50 dollar PSPlus subscription comes to something like 13 cents a day.

I just posted this to Facebook. Sound about right?

It's a bunch of morons flooding the services with internet traffic. Imagine the services are like a sink with the plug out. Normal internet traffic is like a dribbling tap. These pricks have essentially brought a firehose to the party and are pointing it right in the sink. It can't cope, so it overflows. And then won't function. Until someone cuts off their water supply, it won't stop.

Its more like a call center being slammed with thousands of callers who just say hello then hang up, then all the excess automated calls leave voicemails when they run out of operators to answer the phones

A DDOS is less about absorbing the bandwidth and more about forcing the server to constantly do operations that crush available CPU time.

Thank you for offering up an alternative perspective, Joeki11a.

It is concerning. It would be diligent of them to take the network down voluntarily and fully investigate a potential security breach of customer information, then prepare a full statement. Personally, I value that much more than a few days of video gaming.

Security breach??? LOL it ids a ddos attack, there is no security issue.

Looks funny.

No it has become a pissing contest by comparing two completely different companies and services and infrastructures to one another expecting the same result for both. It's unrealistic it's unreasonable and contrary to what you think the guy I originally responded to did basically say well LIVE is back up why isn't PSN and in doing so comparing the two.

So tired of the convenient excuses for PSN. No matter how you want to twist it it's clearly worse than Live in almost every way I can think of. Every time it goes down I regret going with PS4 as my go-to console this time around.

Even on the BBC News they are mixing hacking/DDoS. Probably because 99% of people know the word hacking to a degree.

They did make it clear personal info isn't likely to be affected.

Simply put this is an attack, thats what needs to be said. Dont bring up DDOS on to zombie tv that doesnt enter their minds at all, "wut floodin teh servers?duh".

There are laws and what they are doing is very illegal. The problem is catching them. It's very easy, the way they go about ddosing, to be far removed from the source, unless they trip up somewhere and make a mistake but that's unlikely

This is a thread about a Ddos attack that affected BOTH networks, not about whose service is better.

That we are aware of. It is not uncommon for a group to use a DDoS as a smokescreen to hide actual intrusion. We can't completely discount the possibility that yesterday's DDoS was done for exactly that reason. We don't have evidence to prove or disprove it.

Can't believe this thread is still going. Sucks for PSN users. I had XBL downtime from 3pm EST to 8pm EST yesterday on Christmas. On Christmas morning I woke up and watched The Interview from start to finish on Xbox Video and I played a couple of hours of Costume Quest 2 while connected online. Then the 3pm-8pm Christmas outage happened. And since then I have been online.

Odd then live has been down as much of not more then psn this year................Would you say the same had you got an x1?

So basically fud ?

Ya. My 10yo was upset yesterday, then happy today.

Now MS getting hit again the past 45mins.

Hard to explain this all to a 10yo who just got an xb1 yesterday.

I agree, but the media need a buzz word people know. "Hacking" covers all bases....

They don't care that it might make some think their info is compromised.

Sure so refund the few cents or, ideally, throw us the amount of days that the service wasn't available throughout the year onto the end of the subscription.

I'm not saying "give me Uncharted 4 for free for my pain and suffering," I just want the amount of days I contracted and paid up-front for.

Its a DDOS attack. nothing is hacked as stated many times in this thread.

rofl.... this nonsense is funny as hell.

Security breach??? LOL it ids a ddos attack, there is no security issue.

Okay, you're experts and know the entire scope of what is and has happened? Let's hope the people in charge are more prudent and actually investigate.

I think he's suggesting that the DDoS could have been cover for other nefarious actions.

Like starting a commotion at the front door to distract people while you steal through the back door.

I don't know if that's possible or likely but that's how I interpreted that post.

Thanks, Jest.

How are they doing this for the public good. They aren't even hacking. If there are security exploits then surely telling the company about it would be a better option rather than DDosing and pissing people off?

Live is just better. Sony really screwed the pooch again here and hasn't learned from their mistakes as usual. Like Nintendo, Sony's circling the drain because of their shitty decisions.

I told everyone to get an Xbox and they didn't listen.

Attacks were stopped 14 hours ago apparently. XBL up as MS were able to fix their DNS servers whilst Sony wasn't which is why PSN is still down.
Based on what, the word of the asshats who have been lying to us constantly? Sure. I guess that's why it appears the ddos is all ongoing when viewing ipviking.
