LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Oh God can you picture hackers infecting drones just to disrupt people playing like CoD, just picturing it in my head is hilarious but that would still be one messed up thing to do. Literally doing a drone strike to cut off someone's connection

The after-image of a 12 year old "hacker" smirking as he opens his Mountain Dew is making me die though.

[not serious]

Can't Sony tap the power of a CELL-based supercomputer to get PSN back online and defend from any future attacks on the network?

Sony's closed online system plainly sucks. All I want to play is War Thunder, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't actually need Sony's network for anything.

I was on for like 7 hours or so. I got kicked b/c of maintenance like an hour or 2 ago. Been doing a lot of reading. I even streamed Destiny through twitch and people were so shocked that I was online.

Man, I got a code for Farcry 4 and got to the redeem code last night, forgot that it was having problems and it seemed like it went through, but it kicked me off and I tried it again and said it was invalid or used but the game never showed up in my list or anything. Hopefully it didn't get wasted.

That would seriously be one of the worst things to happen on a military vessel...

Granted I know little about naval vessels, but from what I can find and what I can intuit I don't think it would be very bad, at least as far as botnet-related software goes. Infected machines would likely be limited to nonessential services (including computers provided for personal use, such as email, video chat, etc.) whereas essential machines are probably separated/protected enough to avoid them getting infected with such malware. I'm not saying critical machines are invulnerable, but if they're getting infected, it's with very different malware through very different ways. I doubt there's many zombie nuclear power reactor controllers being used in botnets because a tech decided to open a bad email using them.

Naval ships used to have very limited bandwidths, so infected machines could be an issue as far as that goes, but it seems that over the last few years at least some naval vessels have been outfitted with high speed Internet connections with far higher bandwidths, so even that's less of an issue now. And again, essential services are unlikely to be 100% dependent on the ship's Internet connection. There's going to be fallbacks, possibly even including completely separate secondary (or rather primary) connections.

if the FBI can point their finger at north korea re: sony hack, how hard can it be to find these kids, now that they start giving interviews?

Because it's one of those things they have to be 100% sure of.

I mean, it could be any dick on that twitter account. They keep saying over and over on it now that it isn't them, but PSN and XBL are still down right? Was it ever even a certain group of people then or just everyone in the northern hemisphere trying to connect because it's a holiday and it always happens?

It all feels very fishy to me, it's not like the old lulzsec thing where companies were actually getting credit card details leaked and stuff that couldn't be a 'coincidence' type of thing.

On PS4 trying to sign in now getting:

"Sony Entertainment Network is currently undergoing maintenance.
(NP-35000-8)"

A little "progress" for the Chicago area?

What can the FBI do to a kid in England?

If they can prove he's attacking American assets our (England's) extradition laws will have him shipped off to US in double quick time. Remember we have a 'special' friendship.

On a different topic that radio interview is depressing. This an intelligent being, articulate, could take his life forward in any way he wants but he can't get past childish stunts like this? What are we doing in society these days that has led to a generation that has no real ambition other than making everyone miserable?

Just started getting the same thing here in Korea. Also Vita is good to go except I cannot download anything or upload save data.

I got this brand new PS4 and I can't synch to my profile, DL the patch for TLoU, and buy the snazzy PS1 boot up!

Is the PS1 theme not free anymore?

Also, if you want to hear the PS1 bootup better, and not hear the PS4 login sound, go to settings-->-sound-->turn off keytone

well, they could give british authorities their info, for example. but those british authorities could also look into it themselves - the FBI following an electronic trail is just a recent example.

Because it's one of those things they have to be 100% sure of.

i'm just saying now there's multiple twitter accounts, the trail of the actual attack and at least two interviews were given (which makes it seem that these guys aren't overly pedantic when it comes to their own security?) - that must be worth something (and if it's just finding out that the twitter-accounts were not involved).

Still down I the uk so no Driveclub for me....good job I've FC4, GTAV and AC:U to keep me well and truly occupied. Feel mega sorry for all the peeps who had consoles bought for Christmas who can't fully use yet.

NEVER thought I'd get this angry about my console. I am so fucked off now trying to log in and getting the constant error codes. God fucking dammit. I said earlier that I work close to 60 hour weeks, when I'm home I look after my autistic daughter who needs round the clock attention and the few fucking hours I get to myself over Xmas I want to get away from what seems constant pressure. Is it to much to ask to just fucking log on

So in that BBC interview, why did those hackers say this would be easy to prevent if sony and MS just invested a bit more money into their servers ?

If thats true, why havent sony done that?

We should demand them to do just that if its possible to prevent these kind of attacks.

I got in. Played about an hour and a half of FFXIV.

so it's "up" for me....wonder if that will be the case in the morning tho.

Because it's not true. Sony and Microsoft build more servers and these jokers pay for more botnet capacity. The most ironclad infrastructure on the internet can be brought down by a large enough botnet.

Conspiracy theorists will have some fun with this.

On the back of the Sony Hack, North Korea/The Interview and now the great Christmas video game siege of 2014, the Internet generation will be just about ready to sign up for some draconian Internet control legislation, ;)
