PCGaf: 2 years after launch, who doesn't have neither ps4 nor xb1 still?

While people are fighting over who has more raindrops in their car games I'm busy with things like this, and in VR; a free user made track for an older 2006-released game:

(Why on earth don't commercial releases have tracks like this..)

So it's not because I hate consoles (I always used to buy ALL consoles btw, so this is the first gen where I haven't), I just don't have time for more, there's already "too much to do" for me on the PC platform - IMO.
 
I have a PS4 and an Xbox One. I regret having either of them. The PS4 was for Destiny, and the Xbox One was for MCC. I guess the Xbox One was kind of worth it for Halo 5, which I'm really enjoying the beta of.

The Wii U I will never regret. Nintendo is awesome.

Out of those the only ones that interest me are GTA V, which will beb est on PC, TLOU 2/RDR2, neither which won't be out untill 2016 at the earliest and Bloodborne. I won't be buying a console for Bloodborne now..sorry. No game is worth buying whole console for. The game will be just as nice in 2016 or 2017.

Right now, the most appealing games on console for me are The Last of Us (PS4), and GTAV (PS4/One). There isn't a single 'new gen' game (that isn't available on PC) that has grabbed me. And with GTAV coming to PC, I can't justify buying a console to play a prettier version of TLOU... even though it is my favourite game. I can probably hold out... until Uncharted I guess.

Wii U on the other hand... is very tempting. I wish the gamepad didn't look so ugly. Hoping for a redesign. Will probably end up buying once Zelda is available.
 
I'm still tempted by a PS4 but I'm just not sure I'll use it all that much, there's a small number of games I want at the moment that I'm sure would keep me satisfied but ehhhhh. I'll hold off for a little longer, I think I'll get the projector I've been wanting first...

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Used to own all the consoles, not really interested now. And I don't think it's because I spend less time gaming (I don't), it's because there is even more stuff I enjoy on PC than ever before.
 
So much diversity and depth on the PC front, it's not as much that the unique console offerings are bad but the PC exclusive library is insanely strong.
 
Mods, strategy games, better online (for the few multiplayers I bother with), interesting indies like FTL or Papers Please. Don't hate consoles, PC simply has more of what I want.
 
It goes to show how much better PC support has been these last couple of years, that being PC only is an even more entirely viable way of playing. You really won't miss out on much anymore. What an age we live in.

Yes, really. Is Resogun on PC? Heavy Rain? Same way Star Citizen isn't on PS4/XB1.

The main point is that 1 platform isn't enough, because you easily miss the best that might never come. Why wait and hope? I could beat GTA across 2 generations while waiting for a PC release. Instead, I played both D3 and GTA V, it's no brainer.
 
There isn't enough exclusives I'm interested in on PS4 yet for me to justify it. I want to play Infamous, Bloodborne and the next Uncharted but that's about it so far, all the multi-plats I play on PC.

Remedy is one of my favorite developers so I'm annoyed at their relationship with Microsoft because I will never buy MS consoles. Quantum Break doesn't look that interesting to me but I still want to play it since it's from them, hopefully it comes to PC eventually.

The only thing that would get me interested in a future Nintendo console is a remake of SM64, I didn't like the Galaxy games, I don't like linear Mario. Also Nintendo branching out to genre's that aren't family friendly and developing stuff like horror or something similar. If they go that route I'd be interested otherwise no.
 
I bought a WiiU in the last year for Smash. No plans to buy a XBone or PS4 at this time, no exclusives out yet that I feel I need to play.
 
PC + Wii U has been great so far. I might get a PS4 after Persona 5 and Bloodbourne are out, and then I'll replay The Last of Us at 60fps. :)
 
Xbone and PS4 have terrible exclusives and software that runs on all three platforms runs best on PC. WiiU looks pretty good now, and I'll probably pick one up soon.
 
my 360 has been a umvc3 machine for a while now, and i'm scared to remove the disc in case it dies forever.

i was considering buying a ps4 this month, but i decided on a wii u instead in the end. i adored bayonetta and there was just so much good feedback on the wii u library on here. really enjoying the games i got for it now, and it's great for playing with friends/family.

the only ps4 exclusives out now that interest me are not worth a console purchase (resogun, sports friends) so I've decided to hold off on the ps4 for now. i've decided that i'm going to go with a ps4 rather than an xbone, but not until further down the line when more titles are out that actually interest me. i wanted shadow of mordor and arkham knight, but since they're both getting pc releases i was fine with picking them up on steam.
 
disclaimer: an exclusive next gen umvc3 / ultimate super uber ultra mvc3 / umvc4 would make me purchase a console in a hearbeat.
 
Guilty Gear + Blazblue + sony first party means I'm not regretting my PS4, but I definitely don't use it very often.

Every major game that comes out I buy on PC

EDIT: Also persona 5 will get my PS4 a workout
 
Sony exclusives are the best exclusives for me. I have a ps4 since day 1 and love it.

Will buy a wii u when it is cheaper, it is currently too expensive for me to impulse buy on an Nintendo exclusives machine

Nothing on that list appeals to me except for Persona, which I'll be picking up on PS3. Again their just isn't that many appealing games upcoming yet to justify me buying a next gen console. That's why I'm waiting for the inevitable console redesign which always happen and a price cut. By than their will be plenty of games to pick up and play and for the cheap. Until than my PC and Wii U will get so much play time.

Well, the thing is: I think your premise is wrong, so of course the same goes for your conclusion. Not just because what's "the best" is mostly subjective...

Why "Wait and hope"? Why to not buy just everything? Because I have better uses in mind for my money, that's why.
 
I ended up buying a PS4 but for the most part it just sits there gathering dust, save for the occassional game of PES or COD with friends
 
Bought both consoles at launch and I bitterly regret it. There is barely anything worthwhile that I can't get on PC, I don't feel I would have missed on anything.
My most wanted games happen to be multiplatform. Exclusives on both sides really don't do anything for me, thus far at least.

This logic requires having every single platform. Do you have all of them?

Also...why not wait? I don't thin there ever has been a game that would cause agony if not played right at the moment it's released. Especially since we're talking about pcgamers in this thread. They rarely go buy games day 1 anyway. Aside from Blizzard releases you won't see long lines at launch of any game. That "best thing" will be just as good in a year or two. And it's not even out yet anyway, so what's the poing of buying the console right now just to hope that best thing might happen.

Plus I'm primarly PCgamer because I enjoy PC-styled games the most. So consoles getting anything "best" is pretty much impossible from my perspective. At most they can get something good and good can wait.
 
I have neither. XBO has nothing that interests me. PS4 is going to have Bloodborne, plus I'm kinda-sorta curious about The Last of Us. However, 1 game + a kinda-sorta doesn't justify the current price. Maybe someday.

I think this is what many people on GAF (with a console background) have a hard time understanding. For some of us, PC isn't our favorite platform because it's a better place to play console multiplatform games.
 
All of these consoles are at least $100 overpriced, relative to what they can give my that my current PC can't. The only game I'd even consider buying a console for would be Street Fighter V, and that's coming to PC. MS and IG are floating the idea of a Killer Instinct port, which would eliminate the only reason I'd get an Xbox One. And after my experience with the 3DS, I have little interest in most of Nintendo's first party output, so I'm not too keen on getting a WiiU anytime soon.

I'd rather get a GTX 970 or an SSD instead.

Smart choice. Console exclusives are hugely disappointing this generation IMO.
It's the first time I ever say this, usually the first year of every console gen was packed with quality releases that I couldn't pass on.
Not this time, not by a long shot.

I'm totally apathetic to console exclusives so far. Only The Last Guardian or a new RDR would truly justify my consoles purchase. I'm keeping an eye on The Order and Uncharted still.
 
Probably not going to get an XB1. Sad, but I don't like where they took Halo with 4 so I don't feel like I'm missing much with 5.

PS4 I already own. Yay for me buying it for DC back before all that shit happened. Now I don't play it. I have NBA 2k15 (against my better judgment) from Gamefly that hasn't been opened in 2 weeks. I think I might cancel GF because I just don't use it as much, but like with all systems it comes and goes.

Guild Wars 2 got me focused back on the PC as well as the DK2, now I'm mainly just playing Elite Dangerous and nothing can really pull me away from that.

I have not bought a console game since the launch of it except for GTA V and Trials. That's been 13 months. BUT, I will also say PS+ has had a few good ones here and there but for the most part I don't care for them. I'm just waiting for some of the ones I really want to play to come out. It all goes in cycles, I'll be focused on console, then on PC, then on handheld ... hell, was way into a new Android game just a bit ago.

Ha, and this. Following the tech on PC is just amazing right now. DK2 is an amazing piece of technology and I am one of the firm believers in VR. There's just so many options. Even a simple program like VoiceAttack makes my gaming experience on the PC that much better. Throw in all the controller, wheel, joystick options and it's just more customizable to how I want to play.

I suppose it helps to clarify a little of the situation when I can proudly state that I can play Final Fantasy, Ys in English, Dynasty Warriors, Valkryia Chronicles, PixelJunk's offerings, or even Half Minute Hero on my PC. Not to say that an assortment of Japanese offerings have made the Playstation or Xbox kaput, but more along the lines of the fact that the past few years has been the only time my PC has experienced Japanese-made games since the late 90s dark years of poop-filled Sega ports of Virtua Fighter. I am sure that I'm not the only person to think that being able to (re)play Valkyria Chronicles on their PC would have seemed like a dream away.

That brings me to the new popular arena. The Western market has always been there, despite the talisman appeal of the Xbox through years both thick and thin, so it's a little remarkable to see the Japanese market wake up and smell the roses (and audience) to it a Steam-dominated appeal. Unlike years of old where a Gears of War or Halo was inevitably delayed forever, we're now seeing like-minded release dates where a Steam or GOG release is seen as a crucible moment. The only company who continues to avoid this seems to be Ubisoft in their sole crusade against the tyranny of piracy and customer backlash.

Interesting times ahead...
 
No exclusives that I'm craving right now on either console.MCC was probably gonna be that game but look how that turned out. That and my pc still running the newest multiplatform games like a champ so I'm all good.

Wii-U for Smash along with PC for everything else is turning out to be a great decision so far.
 
Don't have it yet...need to beat yakuza 5 on ps3 once its out...it be nice they put yakuza games on steam...and than atlys games than.I wouldn't need a console at all...
 
I picked up a Wii U at launch for Zombi U. Given some time it turned into a great purchase. I would already have a ps4/x1 if it weren't for the online paywall. I already have a beefy PC and there isn't an exclusive in either library that could tempt me to abandon principle. The console side is actually making it really easy for me to ignore it this generation. Which is both great for my free time, and sad as hell. I've bought every console, every generation until now. Greedy fuckers.
 
Neither consoles interest me at all currently, so I don't see myself getting either at the moment. I'm tempted by Bloodbourne but that's it really.

I did however pick up a WiiU and it compliments my PC perfectly, absolutely love it.

The Japanese devs FINALLY making a bigger push to put out more stuff on PC has been a major factor deflating my interest in consoles as well. I couldn't be more thankful for that--the less platforms I have to buy to play what I want, the better.

Conclusion
And i'm working full time, so wont even touch most of those games, so why should i be excited about PS4 next year when i already have much, much more than i can chew? And i'm not exception here.
 
Only got a WiiU so far to compliment my PC since that's the only platform with enough exclusives that interest me to justify a purchase. The other two will probably take another year or so before they reach that point.
 
Might grab a Wii U if Zelda drops this year, my Steam backlog could carry me through 2015 easily so I see no reason to pick up a console and pay the silly software prices; rather put it towards new gpu's, a consumer Rift or some fancy peripherals.

I don't think alot of these games appeal all that much to many core pc gamers, Bloodborne is the only game on ps4 that tempts me, some of those other games will no doubt be great but there's enough stuff on pc atm that I wouldn't miss any of them, hell I miss out on pc releases by just not having enough time to get through everything I want.
No Bloodborne is not the only game per say, but for some of us it is, because AAA shoot-bang-cutscene that are touted as the consoles biggest exclusives simply aren't as appealing to us as the people that are fainting and foaming at the mouth whenever a uc4 screenie drops make it out to be. Obviously we're the minority at least on this board going by the most anticipated games thread, but I just can't justify purchasing a system this gen for a few games with heavy AAA-cinematic leanings.

When people point to something like uc4, halo or god forbid the Order and ask me how I can miss out, I shrug and say watch me.
 
Outside of Bloodborn (and even then i wouldn't die not playing it) i can't see a single game i'm intersted in on PS4 or the One i couldn't get on my Vita or PC.
So no, i see no reason to get one anytime soon.

I did enjoy divinity, and I fucking love starcraft, but I actually am one of those people thats mainly PC because its a better place to play console multiplatform, well really just a better place to play all games for me

I'm still fuming over RotTR...I played TR2013 at 5760x1080, im sure as fuck not playing RotTR at 900p
 
I go for PC + Xbox 360.

I keep my 360 for: Silent Hill - Downpour, Fight Night Champion, Red Dead Redemption, MGS Collection, Tales of Vesperia and Lost Oddysey.
 
As a PC gamer I have zero interest in the PS4 or Xbox One, just as I had zero interest in the PS3 or Xbox 360. Nintendo consoles are the only consoles that are worth my time.
 
I had two consoles the past two generations and a gaming PC and cut it down to one for now.

PC and Wii U is a nice combination of local multiplayer and online gaming plus amazing single player games. Right now, there are mostly AAA cinematic gaming experiences I am missing out on, which is okayish, since I'd like to play some of those, but I buy a console mostly around the local MP titles that interest me (and Metal Gear) and there is nothing there (yet) that I can't get on PC also.

And with time being a more and more decisive factor these days... I'm fine for now.
 
PC(main dota2 and sc2) + wiiu so far.
Buy a Xbox One this holiday for MCC but the quality of that game make me very angry and may never buy games day one from MS
 
between Steam, Wii (U), and 3DS, I have too many games. Where is the time for a PS4 or Xbox? All the exclusives are on Wii U and 3DS and all the multi platforms are on PC. Very small number of exclusives on PS4 and Xbox do not make it worth my time or money.

In 2025 there is still just as many active PS4's than there are Xbox Series consoles in homes. PS4 will be 12 years old in November.
