I've been thinking for a while about what I wanted to say re: the just-announced departure of @patrickklepek, and not coming up with much.

Tricky's words:

Also...

Haha. I'm not going to Nintendo, and I'm not becoming a community manager. :)

I'm also OK saying I'm not going independent and opening up a Patreon, either.

I did want to stop by and say hi, though. NeoGAF was one of my first homes--people forget I was a moderator way, way, way back in the pre-NEO days. You've treated me very well during my tenure at Giant Bomb, even when we haven't seen eye-to-eye. Thanks for that.

It seemed like the writing was on the wall with him living alone in Chicago and his recent tweets about Cards Against Humanity.

Best of luck, Patrick!

That tweet doesn't sound like he is exactly happy about it, if he cannot think of anything to say. Maybe he is just sad he has to leave or something, or just simply cannot find words. I wonder if the distance from which he was working was making it more difficult?

Yea I really don't understand this decision. It's pretty much the best video game website in the business. All I can think is he's going into the development business, but I can't begin to guess with who.

I really liked Patrick when he was in SF. He was a good mix for quick looks and interesting in live shows with everyone else. After he moved nearly all of his content was just him by himself and it was super boring. I just stopped watching Patrick content cause it was really boring.

Maybe I wasn't the only one.

They can't maintain so many 'locations' and I think its clear Pat was being kept on to add stuff until Alex and Vinny got set up in their new office.

This makes sense. GB Midwest could really only have survived so long with only one member. Unless you include Dave Lang.

Bummer. Listening to the GOTY series of podcasts right now. Not totally unexpected, I guess. He's not at HQ anymore and his style is not exactly the same as the other guys - which is also why I liked him in the mix.

Look forward to what he does next. One of the few actual game reporters. That like actually investigates and reports things and not just copy and paste Press releases

Well crap, that's a downer.

I've always enjoyed Patrick's written stuff on the site, will be sorry to see him leave.

Best of Luck Scoops!

While listening to GOTY, I was literally thinking about how much I enjoy listening to Patrick and how I should watch more of his youtube videos. WTF?

Going by tweets alone, the context of Patrick's tweets never really gelled with Giantbomb's stance on anything really.

He will be missed, he's incredibly articulate and has a very different taste to most of GB.

He's probably going to go the Patreon route or something like that.

First reaction: that's a huge bummer. I loved his and Alex's morning show, and Spelunkin with Scoops.

That said, he has surprised me before (I was sad when he left the main giant bomb office but that turned out great), so I don't doubt that I still will get to enjoy the stuff he makes in the future.

Best of luck Pat!

Hopefully he's not leaving the industry completely, very entertaining and knowledgeable guy.

Same. He is one of the few of the games press that I'd call a journalist. That said with his isolation, it's not surprising.
