Patrick Klepek leaves Giant Bomb

This news is such a bummer as he's the reason I discovered Giant Bomb. I wish him the best of luck though in whatever he decides to do next

Moving to Chicago was sort of a step in this direction so I'm not too surprised. Shame to see him go though - I've emailed him before for advice and tips and he was always very engaging and helpful. Getting GBEast up and running has been enough of a task by itself, so I can't imagine getting some kind of something in Chicago would have been a task anyone could accomplish.

I actually thought he already left and this was only some sort of visit and he just uploads some videos now and then when he is back in Chicago... then again, I thought the same about Vinny and Alex.

Patrick was one of my favourite members on the site when I started watching 3 years ago so it's a shame to see him leave. I'll be interested to see what he does next.

Didn't expect the outpouring of love considering how often people post that they hate him! Nice to see, shame he's leaving. :(

Dang I liked Patrick's contributions to Giant Bomb,
at least he was the more positive of the bunch on Nintendo games ='P
, best of luck to him.

Is funny, because even at his worst, Patrick was never as aggressive and condescending as much of many of his fans posting here to say this.

Patrick grew up a lot in his time at GB. He was very snarky at the beginning of his tenure and I had a hard time understanding his point of view. I think it's sort of ironic that the more time spent with Jeff and crew the more open he got about a lot of topics. Perhaps Jeff's on air personality of completely writing things off immediately for questionable reasons had a reverse effect on Patrick. In any case I always enjoyed him championing games like Tokyo Jungle.

One moment does stick out. In the middle of the dance floor, our eyes locked. I don't know what song was playing, but let's say it was "Don't Stop Believing," since it makes the story sound way more awesome. Picture that song in your head for a second, okay? Unprompted, and despite our only real social encounter having been a dinner earlier that night, Ryan grabbed me, and tossed me into the air. He spun me in circles for what, at the time, seemed like several minutes. We sang, and he set me down.

Man, Patrick was a fantastic member of the Giant Bomb crew. Sad to see him go.

Always loved Spelunkin' with Scoops, Worth Reading, and his lack of fear when tackling divisive topics. One of the best garme jurnalizts out there.

I'll definitely keep an eye on what he does next. Best of luck to ya Mr. Klepek.

Can't say i am devastated or broken up by the news because he never really seemed to fit the GB mold (to me) and i honestly was never a huge fan of his content outside Spookin but i have always respected him for the work he's done and i am sure he's going to go do other great things. The great news is that he said he's still going to produce the content his fans love so it's not a complete loss for those fans.

Patrick's goodbye article says he isn't leaving editorial, and, he's always had a firm stance against journalists getting into PR. Doubt it's Nintendo.

*please don't be Polygon, please don't be Polygon, please...*

how fucking hilarious would it be if he got a job at Polygon but had to move back to San Francisco

They can't maintain so many 'locations' and I think its clear Pat was being kept on to add stuff until Alex and Vinny got set up in their new office.

No offense or anything but this is a ridiculous way of thinking. Most people that follow Giant Bomb fairly closely will know this isn't the case at all. You make it sound like they were just waiting for Vinny and Alex to get settled before they fired him or something silly. It's a personal choice. Anyways there's no need to address this further because its ridiculous and not even close to how things are.

I did like that he gave a fair shake to a lot of niche titles that the rest of the staff ignored - I'm a Monster Hunter fan and the original quick look of MH3 is a fucking travesty. But his QL of MH3U was great and encapsulated what makes the game good.

It's not like he'll be falling off the face of the planet though. If you want more Patrick I doubt you'll have trouble finding it.

This is interesting.

Haha. I'm not going to Nintendo, and I'm not becoming a community manager. :)

I'm also OK saying I'm not going independent and opening up a Patreon, either.

I did want to stop by and say hi, though. NeoGAF was one of my first homes--people forget I was a moderator way, way, way back in the pre-NEO days. You've treated me very well during my tenure at Giant Bomb, even when we haven't seen eye-to-eye. Thanks for that.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Patrick is always jumping around though. How long was this tenure?

4 years almost.
