If it makes you feel better who ever replaces him is going to be an interesting addition. The job listing has Japanese language skills as a requirement. Also has podcast experience being required which suggests that there is going to be a GBeast podcast soon.

Not a requirement, preferred.

Why would Bill know about this for weeks in advance? Is Patrick going to work for Nintendo or something?

Im not super surprised because it was easy to not even realize he was a part of the site after he left for Chicago, but im still going to miss him. He added a lot to the site in his tastes and viewpoints, and when he tried to get guests he always pulled in interesting people. It was already a bummer when his presence got smaller, but I feel like this is a pretty big loss.

Good luck duder

Klepeck is becoming the Yoshi Island ambassador.

Eh, he is the only reason why I clicked GB from time to time, this only worsens the issue of the site's voices being to homogeneous.

What? :( This sucks! I guess it was impossible to use him properly being in Chicago. They've already split the site to two areas, they can't do another.

They really need to hire someone young. Like, early 20s young.

They're all getting older and moving on with their lives. Patrick will probably be starting a family soon, Jeff seems to be getting serious with his girlfriend, Vinny and his family, and so on.

Not to be creepy, but they need that young, passionate gamer who has time to play a lot of games and isn't set in their ways.

I think the time and window for them to get that type of person is hard for them. More opportunities for people now.

That said I do like what the added with Dan anything to counter the overt cynicism that seemed to have taken root there.

But this gives a new opportunity.

Liked his writing...didn't enjoy his video content

And he didn't fit into the bombcast as others have said...good luck on future endeavors

Kinda saw it coming with him feeling more and more 'off to the side'.

Dude always produced a load of fantastic content though and brought a voice to the site, particularly back when when they had the core four and little else.

I'll definitely miss him. Best of luck Scoops!

Shit. I don't always agree with his opinions, but i enjoyed his work, He's a good journalist.
I'll miss Bombin' and Worth Reading.

Best of luck.

I almost have to think CBS is partially behind it; I mean it just makes zero business sense to have someone on the payroll that's completely on their own. At least Vinny and Alex share an office space. He'll be missed for sure.

Doesn't matter everyone was spoiled. Someone jumped to the end of the 4 hr podcast 20 minutes after it was posted and made a thread.
"Spoiled" in this context is so funny.

I'm a little sad to see Patrick leave the fold, but also looking forward to what he does next. He's got a voice that I'll follow anywhere.

I enjoyed Patrick's work with the Bombcast, and especially his Spelunky videos which turned me onto that game. I never found him to be patronizing.

Gonna miss Bombin' in the A.M. for sure. Have been enjoying that in my weekly podcast rotation recently.

Sad to see another Duder go. I hope he enjoys whatever he has lined up next. That said he hasn't been bringing a whole lot to the site lately. If they hire a third person out at GBE and they start their own podcast, I could see this being an overall improvement.

Not terribly surprised. He may have gotten along with the GB folks, but his work and his opinions never were a strong fit. His work was more thoughtful and genuinely critical (in the best sense) than the rest of the folks there. I generally only ever went to the GB site for Patrick's stuff, so now I'll just follow him on to his next gig.

Good on him.

Nah, Bill seems to know Patrick quite well. Besides, Patrick is in Chicago and Bill in NOA is in Redmond, Washington and all of the studio pictures Patrick has been posting.

I like Patrick opinions about game mechanics but I found him becoming more and more off putting in other aspects. I will be lying if I say that didn't consider GB neutral stance about the shitstorm of this year actually wise given some meltdowns at "both sides".

I wish him luck. I feel that he is a good person and a talented reporter.

Yep moving away made it tough for a personality driven website. I don't know if ultimately that caused it, but it certainly changed the vibe. Hopefully with Vinny and Alex being together (and maybe hiring someone else) that won't happen to the GBEast.

His opinion on video games doesn't matter to me. He can like whatever he likes. If I judged their contributions based on opinions alone, Jeff would be completely worthless to me. I am looking forward to Vinny getting up to speed in NY but honestly without him on the podcast or regular quick looks, I rarely even visit the site anymore.

I wasn't a huge fan of Klepek so I can't say I'm too shook up about this news, but Giant Bomb needs all the Majora's Mask defenders it can get.

Patrick's goodbye article says he isn't leaving editorial, and, he's always had a firm stance against journalists getting into PR. Doubt it's Nintendo.

Dunno if I will say that. I felt he had a whole different perception of other issues but also quicker than Jeff to dismiss other stuff.
