Haha. I'm not going to Nintendo, and I'm not becoming a community manager. :)

I'm also OK saying I'm not going independent and opening up a Patreon, either.

I did want to stop by and say hi, though. NeoGAF was one of my first homes--people forget I was a moderator way, way, way back in the pre-NEO days. You've treated me very well during my tenure at Giant Bomb, even when we haven't seen eye-to-eye. Thanks for that.

The only logical way to read the clues is that you're returning to Gaming-Age.com and starting a rival forum to NeoGAF. EXXY'S BACK!

Good luck in whatever it is you're doing next, you brought a welcome perspective to Giant Bomb.

You'll be missed, Patrick.

I once sent a tip into you that you took seriously and followed up on. I'll always appreciate you for that.

You're totally poaching Brad, aren't you? I read that article. Do you turn GFB?

Always a fan of your content, good luck with whatever you decide to do next. Spooking with scoops is hopefully ending up somewhere before Halloween or I am going to end up mighty depressed this October. I will say the bombcast hasn't been the same since you left :(

That feels like a big loss for the site. Patrick was, not a slight against the rest of the crew, kind of the only intelligent guy on site. Always brought something different and new to the table when he was on the Bombcast. So it's really a shame to see him leave.

Admittedly took me a while to warm up to him--well, not so much him, but as a fit, and perhaps it's just he wasn't one of the core 4 and nobody (outside Ryckert) could have blended easily with them--but always hard losing members of the Giant Bomb staff. Personally, I always thought his big contribution was that he pushed the indie love a bit more compared to the other guys, which helped diversify their range of games. And (partly cause of how the site is), his personality eventually fit in well.

Good luck, Scoops, I do hope you will have some of your GB content reappear. Regardless, I hope you find more happiness.

And yeah, Nolan North is an asshole.

It makes me feel old to see how much you've grown up. You'll still always be eXxy to me.

Definitely excited to see what you're up to next.

I think we all know what this is about.

Show me on the doll where Brad touched you.

You were an awesome addition to Giantbomb and the Bombcast. Best of luck to you Patrick. Great sendoff article too. Got me all choked up toward the end.

Shit, man.

I didn't always agree with Scoops, but he made me think about why. He definitely won me over on more than one occasion.

He asks important questions, and is an outstanding writer with a wonderfully open mind at his dispense. Journalism, as a whole, could use more people like Patrick.

We'll miss you!

Best of luck for the future Patrick. I really enjoyed his reporting and I'm really gonna miss Bombin the AM with Scoops and Wolf. Their discussion brought some worthwhile topics and varied opinion to my knowledge, including the games ofcourse. Also all the Spelunky and Binding of Patrick sessions were just amazingly great.

*sigh* :(

Good luck Patrick. I disagreed with a lot of your opinions but I agreed a lot with others but in the end GB is not going to be the same without you.

Saw this thread when I was literally 5 minutes into the Day 5 podcast.

Loved his worth reading articles because it covered stuff not mentioned anywhere else on the site. Hopefully someone can take the reins on that one.

Good luck, Scoops! You'll be missed!

This job listing from back in early December makes a whole lot more sense now :(

https://www.linkedin.com/jobs2/view/29267214

I don't think it'll happen for about a trillion reasons (many of them unfortunate or just plain wrong), but it occurs to me that we know at least one person who:

a) lives in New York City;
b) was once a news editor in the gaming press;
c) has appeared in Giant Bomb content before.

At least some of those reasons involves c) above and the fallout from that on both sides, so it's probably impossible. But a small part of me imagines a bizarre alternate universe where she gets hired and everything is magical.

I haven't really been following.

I remember him with Adam Sessler and Abbie Heppie on that show, Feedback. It was pretty good but went downhill right when he left.

I'll be the first to admit that I didn't gel with Patricks' "on-air" personality and tastes, and it has put me off a lot of GB's content, but in the realm of the profession he works in, he has done some pretty fucking damn fine work. Wish him the best.

Is funny, because even at his worst, Patrick was never as aggressive and condescending as much of many of his fans posting here to say this.

Huh? I wouldn't call myself a "fan," but anyway isn't the Giant Bomb shtick that they're uninteresting? They're chubby white guys that eat snack food and drink a lot and like wrestling and other dude stuff Just Like You, except that have a well run site and loads of industry connections? I didn't say they were shitty, just that Patrick was a unique voice in that group.

Thought this might be coming when that job listing was posted. All the best of luck to Patrick in his future endeavors.

Ugh, this sucks. I loved Patrick because, more often than the rest of the team, he was really willing to challenge himself. He was pretty self-aware about his own tastes and knew when he needed to mix it up. Whether it be a genre he previously wrote off, a game that didn't look quite his style, or even editorials that covered subjects he otherwise wouldn't have been interested in investigating, he found a way to do something different than what was currently being done.

It's that self-awareness and willing to challenge not only society's beliefs but also his own that made a enjoyable game-personality AND an enjoyable journalist.

I'm really going to miss you at Giant Bomb Patrick, but whatever you do I'll be sure to keep an eye on. I've always enjoyed your writing and takes on stuff.

And god damnit, your note to Ryan made me start crying. That whole article (article? Letter? Whatever you call it) was very heartfelt. I only started following GB since about mid-late 2012, but I'll definitely miss you with the crew, even if I haven't heard a lot from you lately. Definitely going to start catching up on old Bombin' in the AMs now, though.

I think Jeff is semi-secretly way more thoughtful about this stuff than you normally see on the podcast and in videos. It's just that for whatever reason, he either thinks people don't come to him to hear about the more intelligent stuff, or that it's simply more interesting/a better return on investment to keep things lighter.

I'm going to miss those editorials from him on Giant Bomb, not to mention his news and couple of his video series. From the looks of that ending article it seems that he will continue most of those things somewhere else. At least we have that...

Hopefully new news editor for GB will be half as good as him

I'm really sad to see Patrick go. I'm a fan of the site as a whole, but he was the only one actually invested in covering the diversity of people in gaming, even if I think he didn't always do a great job of it. Beyond that, this year's GOTY awards really show that he (and to a much lesser extent, Vinny and Alex) is the only one who isn't playing only AAA and big indie games, and even then there's some pretty important releases that nobody on the staff seemed to have even touched. If they're hiring someone to replace him, hopefully they do a good job on these things too (and not be another straight white guy) or things are going to get stale pretty fast.

Patrick was the only one at GB who played Danganronpa and Fire Emblem. It was refreshing to see at least one person that would bother trying to play games outside of the 'GB comfort zone.'
