My initial impression of this was less than stellar , I'll take 50% of the blame since I utterly forgot how to play halo for the first few minutes but the rest of my complaints -
Loaded up beta , clicked slayer , immediately fills up to 7 players out of 8 and sits there for more then 3 minutes. I assume that something has gone wrong and I basically exit out and load up the beta again and attempt to find another slayer match. This time it only finds 6 players and instead of setting it as 3V3 it throws 4V2 and again, sits there trying to find another 2 people. After 2 minutes it times out and gives me an error.
Okay, I think, maybe the second type of game will work better , so I click on it instead and am greeted with another 6 person lobby , after a full minute it looks as though a 7th player has been found and another minute later - another network error .
Okay, fine I'll give it a 4th try , again with the newer game type - again 7 players are found out of 8 and again, after a couple minutes it times out and back to the menu I go.
Okay at this point I've wasted over 10 minutes on this game without getting to play it yet and can't help but scoff at the tagline on the main menu "experience the next generation of Halo multiplayer". I haven't played any MCC online but I've heard the horror stories, if this is what it was like the last 2 months it's no wonder people want their money back.
Despite the frustration of failing to connect to anything I decide I'll give the game one last chance and lo and behold it finds me an 8 player match and a minute later I'm actually finally playing.
I , of course, get absolutely slaughtered thanks to not playing much halo in the last 2 years and figure, gee I must have really let down my team. Upon looking at the stat page I see I got killed 11 times but I was actually the best player on my team, everyone else died 15-20 times. Looking at the rank of the players on both teams I see where the problem arose - apparently the matchmaking thought it was perfectly fair to throw me and 3 other brand new players on the red team and compose the blue team entirely out of players that have 30 + matches under their belts. Isn't matchmaking supposed to make things ... I don't know - fair ? even? I mean I don't know about you guys but It's not very fun to lose ,even less so when you pit experienced players against noobs. It's like a high school football team going up against an NFL team.
So is the matchmaking just broken or is it purposefully set up to not be enjoyable for someone to just step into ? I recall back in halo 3 you had to do those 10 matches but they were always free for alls and you didn't get out of that training area until you got a certain number of kills, a wall of sorts to make sure every player was of a minimum level of skill.
I realize this is just a beta but it seems to require the same 10 matches , why is it only team based ?
