Been a while since I posted in here, some damn fine beards still.

Updates.

Me in Sept 2014:

Quite happy with it.

Me yesterday:

Overgrown mess but I don't care :)

And then...

Me today:

Semi regular summer shave. I'll then grow and keep a beard until this time next year. Summers are just too hot here lol.

Who are you? Who is this guy?

D:

What have you done?! You've killed it! Murderer!

It's amazing how beard can change someone. I've seen your pics before so there's a chance I would recognize you if I ever met you on a street. But now, without the beard - never. You look like a completely different person.

What? That is a fine beard. Full coverage on your chin, a decent moustache, and somewhat sparser sideburns. Far from a lost cause. :)

That's the aftermath - about 8mm on sides trimmed from ~2.5cm. The "before" picture didn't look good; thin hair with some some sparse spots that you could easily see skin and jawline through. Growing beard should make you feel good and when I looked in the mirror I just wasn't feeling it. Maybe I'll try growing full beard once again during the next Movember. ;)

What happened, DM? Dear God, what happened?

I can't lie, a month or two (or three?) ago I was tidying up the strays, my hand moved and trimmed right into my beard, ditched the whole thing. But I'm back to "normal" now and giving it a solid crack again. But Summer... hmmm

GAF, I need beard help. Here's what I've been rocking for the past 6 months or so.

I'm constantly torn between trimming it slightly from what it is right now, to growing it out longer. I desperately am trying to achieve this look:

But I can't get the moustache quite right I think. It just refuses to grow properly, and looks wirey and thin, like a single row of thin long hairs, rather than full and bushy, like the photos. And then there's an entire blank patch right in the middle of the stache :/ I always end up just trimming it back, but then that limits what the rest of the beard can do.

I don't know why I'm really dead set on looking like the 2 photos, but I kinda am. Is there anything that I can do to actually grow a fuller, better stache? Or is there anything I should do to style mine differently (eg, trim, put product in it, idk), or is mine maybe too wirey and curly compared to the others? Is straightening your beard a thing that people do? :P

Why can't I grow a full beard :(

Probably one of the only things I truly want out of life right now lol

I have like a weird patch on both of my cheeks, I can barely grow a mustache and it comes in at a snails pace. Brutal.

EDIT: I actually posted the same thing in this thread on page 12 lmao totally forgot.

I've pulled out some beard hair due to stress without realizing. I have a small patchy spot now. Any advice to cover this up or anything I can put on it to help regrow hair?

Argh after two weeks I am firmly in between the overgrown scruff and actual beard stages. Really not sure if I want to keep doing this, everything is starting to get scratchy and wiry. Gotta wear a suit to work so I was worried about not looking professional enough in these in-between stages, but boss didn't say anything bad (and she is definitely the type of person to point out things she doesn't like)

Beard balm should help you. It helps with scratchiness and beeswax included in beard balms should tame those wiry hair. Also, comb your beard.

Three things:

Amazing new beardGAF photos for Real Pic January. Approved!

While I was traveling for a couple weeks during the holidays, my partner called one night and said that he had grown his beard out but shaved it because it had too much white in it. I've been begging for a beard on him for years, and I can occasionally get him to goatee it up but full beard? And no photos!!! Asshole. Good thing I love him.

Growing my goatee out and I cannot stop touching it now that it's longer. I may need an intervention.

you'll never be able to stop touching it, I play with my mustache every day

I bought some of the Honest Amish balm around Christmas and noticed a difference within days. Felt softer, skin dryness was gone and it seemed to be much more evened out after brushing. I'm headed to Vietnam next week for who knows how long so I'm going to start with a fresh shave and see what kind of difference it makes with new growth.

I've had a beard for years but have decided to change the game in 2015 and grow it out even more. I already have a pretty good beard care regimen going (keeping it clean looking with beard/mustache scissors, conditioning it) but have some questions.

1. What do you guys think about growing your mustache over your upper lip? I like how it looks on other guys, but I'm not sure if it's right for me. My upper lip is pretty large and my mustache fills in nicely, but isn't especially thick, so I dunno if it will just look scraggly if I try it. I'm letting it grow right now and I'm determined to try and get through the awkward stage and see if I can pull it off.

2. Do any of you guys take any sort of supplements for hair / beard growth and health? I'm lucky in that my hair grows pretty fast, but I read that biotin can help, so I've been taking it daily. It seems like its helping - my hair stylist said she definitely can tell my hair has been growing even faster between haircuts - but I wanted to know if anyone hear had any experience with similar supplements.

3. I am cursed with really sensitive skin and shaving my neck has been a nightmare for my entire adult life. I switched to a safety razor a few years ago and that has helped a lot, but this winter my skin has been extra prone to irritation and rashes, and even shaving with a clean safety razor with a brand new blade in it has caused the skin on my neck to really freak out. Any advice for how to keep my neck clean shaven without making it look like I butchered myself after I'm done shaving?

My wife bought my this beard balm online for Christmas. It's amazing. Smells great, and definitely helps straighten out my wirey beard hairs. I tried using some beard oil too that was okay but doesn't work nearly as good as this stuff.

thanks, I'll look into that one

I should look into some beard care products.

I've had a beard for about a year and a half now, but it's got that Irish-ness in it. It's not as thick as I'd like and it's all reddish and curly, so when I grow it out, to just turns into this rusty brillo pad. If it were a little more under control, maybe I'd consider growing it out a little longer. I'll have to look into that.

I trimmed mine today after 2.5 months and I kind of regret it. My beard was starting to look a bit nasty though. I don’t think I cared enough for the beard. I just used regular hair shampoo and conditioner on my beard, whatever my wife uses for her hair. I would brush it after the shower, but that was about it.

How do you all get it where the sides aren’t as long, but the chin is? I can’t ever seem to trim it correctly.

Also I see the Honest Amish Beard Balm, what does the product do and what else do you all recommend? Tempted to go ahead and order some.

I want a beard like this – Not idea have to achieve it or if it's even possible to have that god like beard

Beards grow differently. Beards like that are grown that way, not trimmed. I mean some of it is trimmed but the look you want is from the goatee area of the beard growing fuller than the rest.

do you have a beard trimmer with an adjustable guard? should be pretty simple to shorten it a bit and do the sides

Haven't shaved since october did have half goatee before that though but left the rest grow out

image.jpg

Powerful beard!! I've been growing mine since October too but lol it sure as shit didn't grow out like yours did.

@brandwin - that honest amish beard balm basically conditions your beard after you've washed it. The beard has to be wet and then you rub some of this balm into it and it conditions and also straightens out most of the squirrelly/wirey beard hairs that don't want to cooperate. you really don't even need to use that much either. It smells amazing too haha.

I don’t know if I get my neck line right, sometimes I think it’s too high and other times it needs to be a bit lower. I also think the same on my cheek line. My hair grows really high on my cheeks. I think I need to let it grow more and get a different line.

I might just go another month and let it grow without touching anything, but trimming the mustache and then go from there.

Probably going ahead and buy some of the Amish Balm as well.

One other question – If you like at my avatar, you see the beard is a bit darker, it was a filter. Thoughts are dyeing your beard? I hate the redish tint I have. It’s just too much. I think the color in my avatar looks a lot better.

Thoughts?

Got ya, I just can't seem to get it down

I do, I used the highest setting last night, which was a 9 and I feel like it took too much off.

Just ordered some from Amazon. Thanks!

It's just fancy perfume to make your beard smell manly. It's not going to make your beard grow fuller or straighter.

Shemyaza just said "The beard has to be wet and then you rub some of this balm into it and it conditions and also straightens out most of the squirrelly/wirey beard hairs that don't want to cooperate. you really don't even need to use that much either. It smells amazing too".

I'm not worrying about full growth because my beard is fine on that point.

Hahah man I am a fellow ginger beard myself and I've tried to dye my beard with some just for men shit and it turned out black!! I left it in for like 5 minutes too. It was crazy how fast the color changed, and it was not good. Had to shave me beard :(

I use a fine tooth comb after a shower to tame the wild hairs. I will then run an unguarded electric razors over the ones that are really out there. If I'm taking the misses out for a romantic dinner I will throw on a flannel and apply some beard oils.

Does that Amish Beard Balm add thickness or a product light hold post-shower, or is it simply for conditioning?

At the moment I use this AXE Tea Tree cream that I used to use in my hair for the beard. It's cheap, sold practically everywhere, smells good, and lessens the beard craziness.

OK this is going to sound crazy but rather than a beard balm to keep the odd stray hairs in place I use just a little of this:

american-crew-forming-cream__82442_zpsd1c988ed.jpg

It doesn't hold but lets the beard set and hold a better shape. Now I still use jojoba oil to maintain hair health, but this is for the misbehaving hairs.

Also, don't micromanage your beard. Anyone's beard when looked at close up will look a mess. It's the overall effect the hairs make that is important. So what you see sometimes as thin or out of place, overall looks fine.

That's what I use if I'm not using the AXE Tea Tree cream. I feel either works decent enough, just wanted to get more opinions.

Use the Fiber for my hair.

Second photo is baller as fuck

Has anyone here picked up the annoying habit of pulling out your beard? I don't even realise I'm doing it most of the time. Its a lot thinner in some places now due to this

I know this is fucking obvious: To get your beard looking awesome, think of a friend you have with an awesome beard (as in, trimmed well etc.) and ask them where they get it done. I only thought to do that yesterday :/

Holy shit. I have about a tub or two of that American Crew gear I no longer use because my hair is shorter (
thinner
).

Yeah Sanjuro and I use it. Give it a try.

Is there any way to get my beard growing more full in spots? It's not patchy, but the hair under the sides of my bottom lip is nothing more than stubble after 8+ months, while the rest of the beard grows fine. I've heard rogaine or whatever might work, but something seems weird about using rogaine on my face. Anyone with any experience?

Also, is there a way to have my beard grow more straight / wavy rather than curly and wiry like it is now? I hate the bushiness of it, want to get a large, flowy beard going.

Dude I'm the worst with this.

Also I just discovered this thread and it can only be described as... majestic

INCOMING ASIAN BEARD ALERT

I know these are pretty damn rare but I wanted to try since I am mixed and happen to have my dads genes for facial hair I guess.. This is 5 weeks. Sides are a little light but the mustache/goatee/chin/neck area are really thick.

Any idea what to do with the wrangly short hairs that refuse to take any direction under my nose? They are going in every direction and I'm not sure if it is proper to trim under the nostrils or just let that all grow out.

I use Honest Amish heavy duty beard balm after a shower every day. I have experimented with Pomade/Forming Cream on the mustache but it seems to do absolutely nothing :X

Asian hair is really thick and can't be tamed. It's pretty annoying how nothing turns in on itself like a normal beard/mustache. The mustache is about 2 inches in length and it still seems to stick straight out. :\
