Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

well, I've just decided to jump in! I know nothing about them and have still yo play my copy of Smash U but they looked so cool back at the store today!
I wanted to also pick up Marth but decided against it 'cause it looks like shit :(
Also I'm glad I didn't buy them from Amazon 'cause lots of them were BADLY painted, so definite a plus that I could pick them one by one after a lot of nitpicking :P

Tomorrow I'll go back there to grab Villager, Little Mac and Fox! Those looked nice.
Unsure about Link, don't like it :/ Yoshi and Mario I'll get at a later date but they're definitely a purchase
But yeah, Samus, Falcon, Pit, Villager, Mac and Fox are my first purchase and I'm hooked!
Good picks guys? Did I choose poorly for whatever reason??

Didn't really anticipate I'd buy many Amiibos besides probably Metroid, Bowser (they didn't have it, damn), Ness and Toon Link (are these two ever coming out?), but now I'm thinking of kinda collecting most of them, lol

You're obviously from Europe if you can find Marth and Villager in the wild. Bowser and Toon Link come out next month.

Oh and welcome to the amiibo madness! It's a bit easier in Europe to find all the amiibos but it's still hard on the wallet.

For you if you're in Europe, Toon Link and Bowser come out on January 23rd or a little bit after that date. They should be fairly common and shouldn't be difficult to find.

If you ever see a Kirby or Little Mac, don't hesitate, buy it.

I've bought them at Mediaworld (Italy), why are they rare or something?
They cost 15EUR each there, dunno if it's convenient if you want them I could ship them to you guys. Should I buy a few and sell for a profit? I live in a small city and the clerk told me they were there since before Christmas and nobody buys them so it's not like I would be scalping or something.

Which ones are the rare ones I should buy first chance?
Do you think I could grab Marth and exchange if for TWO "common" Amiibos?

After your post I've ordered one from Amazon.it for 13.45EUR, but why shouldn't I had esitate to buy it??

I remember hearing about it being rare in Europe and I checked Amazon.?? and I saw it for 140+ Euros. I said wow.... Maybe they're getting him back in stock. I say, get him now while you can just in case.

And villager, Marth, and WFT are RARE as heck in North America. We are importing all your base belong to us, so hopefully you don't run out.

Yeah, I made a tier list here.
Falcon and Pit are quite common here. Kirby a little bit harder to find but you won't have to search hard for him. Mac is extremely hard to find.

Mac
Wii Fit Trainer, Marth and Villager are all rare around the world.

So... Is Little Mac officially out of print, or is there still a chance he'll pop up on Amazon again? It's getting really depressing just refreshing the Amazon page day after day.

Shipping was $0.99 with a coupon. I got 2 Peaches for $7.90. Looks like a price error though, so they might cancel it.

Probably not out of print, but very rare.

Speaking of Little Mac, mine arrived in the post today!
 
So, Little Mac is the rarest Wave 2 right? I got a Falcon off amazon pretty easily, and I've seen Pit come and go a few times (passed on him), but never Mac. The fact that he's the only amiibo Gamestop removed from their site entirely is really weird too. Even the listings for the Wave 1 trinity of rares are still there.

Seems like a lot of people here managed to get one though.
 
Shouts out to Infernoabyss for selling me a Pit for retail + shipping. Wave 1 & 2 are officially complete for me! And all but Metaknight and (lol) Rosalina are preordered from Wave 3. I'm in too deep.
 
Got my Pit from ToysRUs today! Actually, I ordered 2 of them because I thought it might force them to ship in a box rather than a bubble mailer. Sure enough, both arrived in IMMACULATE condition, thank goodness.

I'll keep one of them, and the other one's already got a home waiting for him. Gotta love happily-ever-after endings.
 
I got the email saying toys r us was going to reinstate my pit and falcon order 2 days ago, but they still say cancelled. I'm so confused. Gonna hit them up tomorrow.

Well if you sold the Marths and the Villagers to Americans on ebay, then yeah you can make some cash. Prices go up and down but Europe versions for both seem to go for between $50-$70 US. Minus the cost of the amiibo, and shipping to the US and ebay fees, I guess you'd make about 20 Euros per?
 
Aww yeah. Japanese Villager finally arrived! As long as the 2 from wave 3 that I have preordered come through, I'm good until wave 4.
 
So after wrestling around with it I finally decided to sell my unopened villager/marth/wft and got 280 US (323CDN) for them in an eBay auction.

The guy that won the auction we messaged each other and he was ecstatic ... a true collector, I felt better knowing they are going to a good home.

I honestly can't believe the prices of rares in the aftermarket. I still plan on collecting commons here and there but i couldn't turn down the insane money the trinity was worth. Originally I wanted to "get them all" but i changed my mind when I realized how much that would cost (not to mention the hassle of getting in store exclusives).

Do you guys think exclusives will hit Marth/villager/wft values or was the wave one trinity a one off thing?

I'm still feeling sad looking at my remaining opened amiibos now missing what was the ever present unopened trinity behind them.

UK and USA seem normal but the pattern of Zelda and Diddy is a but odd. Both are uncommon.

Japan is where the scalpers go because those 3 are common there and collectors don't want the Japanese packaging.

Villager is still impossible to find over here, although I've had surprising luck with WFT and Marth. I've even seen both of them in several stores within the past week!

Keep your eyes on this thread for any time a chance to import one of those comes up, and you might be able to use that money and import those 3 for about $60. At least you'd have a complete collection. I think amazon.fr is still taking Marth orders with a 2-4 week wait.

As for if I think the rare amiibos trend will continue. Yes but I don't think to the same degree. Nintendo now knows they have a success on their hands. They would be kind of foolish to limit their stock on certain amiibos and let scalpers get that money instead. They can use the sales figures they have to more efficiently supply the market.

But, some amiibos will still get less supply because they will be less popular and I think Nintendo will have to keep discontinuing amiibos so that they can bring the new characters in for sake of shelf space.

Did Wii Fit Trainer come back in stock on US Amazon today? My check for change flashed on her page, but the time I got back home it was back to 3rd party sellers. -_-;;

lol well I'm so conflicted on amiibos. The collector in me wants them all (I've spent ridiculous money on collectable stuff since the 90s .. MTG, comics, etc). At the same time this was my first time ever using eBay with a truly "hot" commodity. It was really exciting tbh. After the sale though I felt that "empty soul" feeling taking the Trinity to the post office. I hadn't realized how emotionally attached I'd gotten to those stupid unopened pieces of plastic.

The cash will help mollify my sadness but villager was so cute :*(. I may look at importing. Tbh I'd like to have the 3 again but opened and free mixed in with the rest of my collection.

I've got to admit it's tempting. I've opened my Villager and Wii Fit Trainer Amiibos already, but the Marth and Little Mac are still in their packages for now. I really do want to keep them for their own sake though (they look great lined up on a shelf).
