I look at the dock that came with my OG 3DS, and I feel like both laughing and crying.
Called NOA and the support person had no idea it didn't come with a charger and thought it was idiotic that it didn't come with one. I don't expect them to have a job much longer.
This whole situation is stupid. Include a charger you cheap skates.
I think they are that desperate to reduce costs. When you are making something that is going to be (hopefully) selling tens of millions of units every cent counts, even if it makes you look cheap and petty.
i dont get the back lash. if they included it the system would cost more. not the same.
This way instead of paying $210 you can just buy a adapter for $10 separately or not if you already have one or two.

You are smoking something (or just naive) if you think Nintendo would have launched this thing at $209.99. They would (and should) have just eaten the cost to be able to stay under that magical $200 price point. There is a reason most products are $19.99, or 99.99 or 199.99 and not $22.99 or 104.99 or 209.99.

The problem isn't if whether you can get a charger by external means or not. Nintendo's prioritizing its existing userbase by this move and alienating the new potential users.
Oh hey there's the old "They'd charge you more if they included it." nonsense.i dont get the back lash. if they included it the system would cost more. not the same.

you are naive to think any company is going to eat the cost of any product unless its absolutely needed.
The new 3ds isnt needed to sale 3ds games.

Nope. n3DS has remained the same price or cheaper in all territories already, so I don't see why NoS would be the only place it's getting more expensive. Definitely just a margin-making money grab, IMO. Desperate times.i dont get the back lash. if they included it the system would cost more. not the same.

No, its about hitting that magic number as 210 looks bad but only 200 and multiples or 25 like 225 look good...$25 extra for a USB cable? I don't think so.
Same price or cheaper than what? If you're thinking 3DS XL=New 3DS XL you are comparing two systems that don't come with AC adapters. Also what has the exchange rate been doing these days. Maybe $200 no longer makes sense for XL with charger due to a weaker dollar or something?Nope. n3DS has remained the same price or cheaper in all territories already, so I don't see why NoS would be the only place it's getting more expensive. Didn't you know? The new 3DS costs Nintendo $197 to make, which is why they can't pack in a charger that costs them pennies to make and still turn a profit on it at $199. Instead, they'll give new buyers a choice to buy said ultra cheap charger for $10! Imagine being a repeat customer and being burdened with an extra (nearly free) charger cable. Wouldn't that be dreadful? You'd be shackled to it for life. Thank GOD Nintendo thought of them when packaging their new hardware. Aren't they so pro consumer?
You are not saving anything from Nintendo not including a charger. The cost is not passed onto the consumer; there is most likely a very large profit margin on the New 3DS and the extra dollar it takes to include a charger does not seriously affect it.WTF?
No, here is a REAL example of choice.
Have a charger? Sweet, the New 3DS only costs you 220 dollars instead of 230 dollars.
Don't have a charger? The New 3DS costs you 220, and you have to spend 10 dollars to buy the charger.
Why is anyone defending this? The product doesn't work without a propriatory accesory. To not include a power cable is insane from the consumer's perspective.
At some point we'll be calling each other entitled for expecting the system in the box.Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that some people are calling others entitled for expecting a charger in the box, as if it were some outrageous expectation?
What was it like when this became the norm in Japan?
Nobody said peep when this launched in Australia.
Seriously. Even the Vita uses the standard microUSB now.
I've had my DS lite since it came out. The R button isn't perfect anymore, but still works. I was considering buying a New 3DS, but searching on google about it just gave me pages and pages on how bad the build quality is for both systems. Not having a charger just topped it. Region free was another issue, but you can get around that eventually. I think it's a real shame, because there were a lot of titles I was interested in.
The manufacturing cost for replacement AC adapters, even by companies without the advantages of scale that Nintendo does, is roughly $.50 USD. Fifty cents. The reason they're handling it this way is because their market response estimates tell them that a system priced above $199.99 will drop in demand, and internally, they want higher margins in the product. Hence, they've split one product into two that an end-user needs to operate the system. By selling the AC adapter at the normal (meaning relatively high) markup in addition to their markup for the core system, they come out ahead compared to what they would otherwise, both in margin and in avoiding a price-point that would stymie interest. It would be contrary to Nintendo's legal obligation to act in the interest of profits to do this unless it specifically gained them a greater net-profit in the end.
This is all fine in its own way, but making a statement that it's done to save consumers money is simply untrue in any broad sense.

No, they were never going to charge $210 or anything like that. This only increases their profits. Can't see the problem here... That's a pretty reasonable explanation. The console would cost more if they included the adaptor as standard. Now you're saving money if you don't need the adaptor, or paying what it would have cost had they included the adaptor as standard if you buy the adaptor seperately.
That's funny, I'd consider a proprietary charger for a rechargeable battery absolutely necessary. .you are naive to think any company is going to eat the cost of any product unless its absolutely needed.

So what's to say that the fucking Scalpers won't buy all the Chargers as seen by the GameCube adaptor/Amibbo fiasco - and you'd have to pay top dollar go get one. What if they are sold out in stores too you can't charge your 3DS???
Include it in the box so those defending this practice it's just insane

I can't believe people are stilled riled up about this, is there some sort of pertinent reason this thread is still going on?

Pretty much and agree. I doubt we will see anything before the launch, but hoping E3 brings some news. The thread will continue as long as that mentality exists.
I'm still upset about the no charger. Hoping they change their mind before launch and give a voucher or something.

Yes, we know Nintendo is trying to make money and isn't in the best economic situation. Why should we care? We don't make a dime off of their profits. If their approach results in a lesser product, then we will voice our opinion and choose not to buy it.Because people are seriously that upset about it. Don't ask my why but not including an $8 charger is apparently blatanly anti-consumer and the whole company needs to burn for it.
If Nintendo even dares to try to make a few extra bucks consumers are being taken advantage of. Not to mention they fact the fact they are obviously turning such a massive profit that saving a few million dollars is unneeded.
