Joni Ernst did a good job. Best GOP response in some time. She was personable, spoke rather well, and held up better than some of her more experienced peers under a national lens. I liked the softer edge of her message, as well. Step #1 in changing the national Republican image - I'm not seeing this "selfishness" others are.

But this SOTU was amazing. I loved it, in particular the last third. Should be an interesting 2 years.

I'm curious - did you watch it on TV or on YT? The internet feed had her looking off screen (presumably at another camera), which was off-putting.

I can't believe the GOP is still running on repealing Obamacare.
-It hasn't been a disaster like they said it would
-Medical prices have slowed in growth.
-Fewer people are uninsured.

What is the point of repealing it? You said it would destroy the economy but the economy is doing fine. You were wrong.

Hey, Tea party guy spoke Spanish! Well done, sir.

What exactly did she respond to? She didn't respond to any points in the SOTU.

It was the same with CNN, you could literally see her eyes moving as she read off the teleprompter. I don't think she looked at the camera once.

As a former active duty devil dog, I find it pretty damn amusing when a former glorified weekend warrior such as herself talks about serving the country overseas when she spent 99% of those 20 years here at home as a high-paid administrative support.

"We all believe in God" -- Tea Party

To be fair, I don't think this is so much a shot as it is a lack of thinking that there's even people out there who don't.

I think I realize why they did the whole "five responses" thing. Instead of giving us one big, dopey, goofy target to ridicule and pick apart, our attentions are going to be all over the place. Pretty clever. #breadbags

This tea party dude is oddly endearing. He's just a confused old man who is probably pretty kindly to the neighbors IRL

Also LOL at the camera not cutting away at the end of the speech

They put YEARS into framing a narrative about Obamacare, if they just let that go they will have to try and find something else major to lie about

I really thought this was worse. Her voice and cadence just isn't right for this type of speech, and it was an awkward juxtaposition to one of Obama's better SOTUs.

Well, I meant it as wiping his brow in relief. Probably should have added that part. :/

Holy shit at some of these TV people (mostly ignorant reptiles) saying Joni Ernst did a great job. Are you fucking kidding?

Also why is Anderson Cooper on CNN? He seems cool surrounded by a bunch of tools. "S.E. CUP" aka I dont have a real name, says she wants boots on the ground. Time for war again. *smacks head on table repeatedly*

CNN needs someone to lend them journalistic credibility.

I wasn't able to watch Obama's speech, but did he say anything about the inevitable automation that is going to obliterate the service-focused economy of the country in the next 5-25 years?

Also, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is totes adorbs.

My hero.

Hot tip for single guys, especially living in cities: I wear my Notorious RBG shirt around town and get all kinds of positive attention for it.

We live in a time where a liberal Supreme Court justice is a celebrity - and I love it.
