Playstation TV Thread: Vita Who?

Do I have to connect my DualShock 4 to my PS TV everytime I want to boot it up? I'm pressing the home button on the DS4 and my PS TV isn't turning on :\

Also, how do you press the notification bubble on the top right.

Edit: Also I need an HDMI switch or something since I'm out of HDMI ports. Anyone have any suggestions?

You only have to connect it if you power the system down completely. If you leave it in standby mode, it'll stay synched. Just keep pushing right/up and right on the analog stick to get to the notifcation bubble.

The cheapo ones with a remote on Amazon work fine. Many of them seem to be re-badged versions of the same one I bought a few years back. No problems with mine.

While I agree that PSTV has sucked for the most part, with the PSNOW service it has found a permanent place in my home. Currently playing Ratchet and Clank into the Nexus and it's just like I have a PS3 sitting here in my living room. The streaming is flawless.

Ok so this is going to sound weird but I know it just happened. I was messing around with TV settings and have had the system set to 720p for a long time now but randomly decided to switch to 1080i to see if I could see a difference.

What's weird is while running in 1080i I am getting a noticeably better framerate in Atelier Rorona.

This may be some random occurence caused by something unrelated but it's definitely noticeable. Could the PSTV refreshing every other line and then being recombined by the TV's deinterlacer create the illusion of a smoother framerate?

Picked up a few games today for my Playstation TV, and ya know I've come to conclusion that I think Playstation TV will be a great system for me in the long run. I'm not much of a portable system gamer, because if given the option, I'll always want to play something on my TV, but I wouldn't complain if I could take those same games on the go sometimes.

I'm feeling that for the quality of the games on the Vita, some of them still look great on my TV, but I think I'll love it even more if I get an actual Vita someday so I could take these same games with me. I picked up Akiba's Trip, and BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma, and they both look just as good to me as what I remember seeing of the PS3 versions. Been playing Persona 4 Golden a lot lately, and I've loved playing it at home, but I have been thinking how it would have been nice sometimes to take it with me to school and play some of the dungeons between classes.

So yeah, Loving my Playstation TV, but I think it'll be even better when I can use it as a companion device with a Vita.

I love the system as well it's a great little system it's really disappointing that Sony isn't supporting it as well as it deserves.

It feels like Sony has abandoned this thing. I wanted to play Lumines today and nope, it's still not working. What a frustrating device that has potential but is being hamstrung by Sony's incompetence.

I agree. All of the games of mine that I would love to play with a controller (Wipeout 2048) have no compatibility. Still glad I can play many of the games via the PS TV.

Will the PS TV act as another vita/psp when using ad hoc functionality for multiplayer? As in, if you had a vita and a PS TV, you could link them for ad hoc multiplayer?

they abandoned it when it left the warehouse. But technically, Lumines isn't Sony's fault.

It kind of is though, when you consider that they could have just let the PSTV play ALL vita games with a little warning that said "All features may not work on a PSTV". From what I'm hearing, so many of the games that don't work should technically be able to, they're just not allowed to.

eh if it gives you any consolidation, re;birth 2 looks great on a large screen. very "crisp"

sorry for the potato tier photo quality

Speaking of re;birth, those games (the vita versions) are superior to the ps3 versions, right? I almost picked up the PS3 games until I noticed the existence of the vita versions.

Yup should have been a blacklist instead of a whitelist.

Picked one up and messed around with it last night.

I'm still not sure why this thing exists. There are better ways to play most (all?) of the games available.

Have a feeling it'll end up in the box with my OUYA, my OnLive console and my Shield.

Yes; I never played the original, but Re;Birth is a much better game than it was from everything I've read. If you want to play Neptunia, get it on Vita or PC.

Hey guys can I just hot swap memory cards is it any more involved than turning the system off and putting a new card in? Basically I want to grab another 4GB card since my 8GB is our of room and was wondering if I could just swap between them when I wanted to play a different game or if there was more to it than that.

Yes, yes, it isn't but it is but it isn't. The reality is the game needs to be patched and won't.

So I got the Vita TV and ordered Puyo Puyo Tetris, while waiting for that I'm thinking about getting PS1 Capcom Puzzle Collection (or whatever it's called). One thing I'm curious about is that at I've heard about lag with them on PS3 before, looking it up myself I've seen varying reports about them on Vita, how have your experiences been?

Owning a PSTV kinda has me interested in picking up a Vita at some point to play some of my games on the go. I know the Vita has been through a few iterations, so can someone give me a quick overview of what's available, and which models/bundles I should be keeping an eye out for? I figured I'd ask here since most of you seem to be experienced with the original vita.

Just buy the borderlands 2 bundle, those OLED 1000 units have parts that arent being made anymore(I had to buy some spare parts from monoprice just in the case my cable actually gets ripped)

Just got me one of these guys and its pretty cool. Having some issues with input latency while using remote play though. I don't get this lag while using my vita from, virtually, the same spot in my house. Any ideas why my PlayStation tv is running behind a bit and my vita doesn't?

Vita TV has two remote play quality settings - high and normal. I think Vita runs on normal. So if you switch the setting on your Vita TV to normal it'd probably be the same :)

Make sure firmware is updated on the pstv, after the 2.0 ps4 update and matching vita/pstv update, remote play was significantly improved on pstv. Also, are you wired or wireless for the pstv? If wireless, make sure you're not setup to direct connect for the ps4 via widi, if you're more than 5-10 feet away (ps4 to pstv), you will get better performance with wifi through your router

Ok i changed it to normal. Thanks.

I'll check this out too. Thanks for the advice.

I don't recall anyone mentioning this, but Binding of Isaac Rebirth was added to PS TV's compatibility list post-launch, I just noticed today after seeing it didn't work at launch.

Frankly it's the worst version as it has the performance of the Vita version (some people don't mind, I do) and the triggers/click-in sticks aren't available, so you have to map some actions to the face buttons to get it to play properly--don't play it without remapping. It works but it's a lazy effort by Nicalis. What else is new. Better to play Remote Play on PS4 if available and your latency isn't too bad.

Guys, dunno if this has been asked before. I just got my pstv and so far Im loving it. But, I dunno if you have been through this:

I downloaded and played a few levels of Olli Olli, Duke Nukem and mutant mudds, then I turned it off and when I went to play them again it said they were not compatible. Am I doing something wrong?

Refresh Live Area (the little refresh icon on the game page) should validate their compatibility. You'd think it'd just do that when it finds a game isn't compatible, but...

Did you turn it all the way off? It doesn't seem to forget compatibility for me unless I delete a game, but maybe it's because I use suspend

Thanks for the tip, I guess will work, but Im having some internet issues and shamefully (?) it doesnt refresh the live area, so, until my internet at home returns I wont play Anything on the pstv.

Also the vita oled screen has amazing refresh rates. LCD screens will introduce an extra layer of input lag on top of remote play. Maybe that's it?

I've been thinking lately... what do you think would the best way to contact Sony regarding the PSTV? Like...bring to their attention as consumers what a horrible job they are doing supporting the thing. I don't mean just some customer support email, because that shit doesn't ever work either. Like...who would I tweet, or what forum besides gaf would be the most appropriate to post on to just bring to light that as someone who loves the PSTV, and think it makes a great companion device to a Vita, or even just as a console because of the good games available on it... point out to them what a terrible job they've done since day zero on the thing?

Not only in terms of marketing, but like...the white list shown on PSTV's storefront doesn't look like it's been changed since the thing launched, when there are clearly games that are supported on the device that they don't even list or mention anywhere!

There were some games that I wasn't going to consider looking to get for Vita because of the lack of PSTV support being listed anywhere...it wasn't without someone help here on gaf that I finally got confirmation that Atelier Rorona Plus actually works, even though officially it says that NO WHERE. I also wasn't going to get Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd, but recently I stumbled across a video of the game where the NA version was being played on a PSTV. I had no reason to believe or any confirmation anywhere else that this game actually worked, but by a lucky mistake I discovered that it was.

It's been a joke about sony's PSN team for a long time with Grace Chen time being a problem in the past, but holy shit...how incompetent are they really? Do they not want sales? It is not unreasonable to me as a consumer to know what my options are, but the people who run the Playstation Store can't seem to be bother to update their fucking list of compatible PSTV games? Seriously?? I'd think that's part of their fucking job, and if there's not enough people to do it, then get one guy to just verify that stuff, and just make sure new games that get released are added to the list. Why the fuck is that so hard?

/endrant

Anyway, this is just really bothering me, because I love the device as a system. I think it runs games great, and it has some great games on it. I almost think of it as a better new platform for me than the PS4 could ever possible be, because if I can continue playing fun RPGs at home, and if I get a Vita someday, I can take them on the go. I want the system to do better, but Sony hasn't seemed to care since the beginning, and I wish I could just point out to them how any failure on the part of the PSTV is their own fault.

I'm with you. It's such a neat device -- or has the potential to be -- but it really was DOA, with no backing from the company after it tanked in Japan. Almost like they've been afraid to promote and support it here, so it can't be called a flop if/when it fails.

It would be really cool if there were someone high up in the company to champion it and ask for a small dev team to keep working on it and improving it over time, to see if it can catch on at some point. Kind of like how Apple has called Apple TV a hobby for years, even though it's sold millions of units -- and you know they're hoping to grow into something more at some point.

Anyone here play FFT on this? Is there still frame rate slowdown with spell effects (I have no idea if it was hardware or software related).

I'm going to be buying one soon basically just for FFT and Tactics Ogre, but I had totally forgotten about the slowdown on PSP (and for some reason I thought maybe it was software related so it could still exist on PSTV...). Will probably buy regardless because I never had much problem with the slowdown but still curious because maybe I'll buy TO first if FFT still has the slowdown.

Takes some getting used to when switching between PS4 games and upscaled PSV games, but I like it nonetheless.

It's a shame how Sony is treating the device tho... real shame.

Does peace walker work? ;)

Yes :P I'm just worried about the graphics... a PSP game won't look too pretty :P

Also, internet is really crap. I'm connected to the same powerline as my PS4 (I switch when I play on PSTV) but it doesn't always work. Was unable to get a connection during my Persona 4 Golden run earlier. I know it's a PSTV issue because my PS4 never loses its connection :/

It's always best to go after official twitter and FB pages as other consumers can see it which usually forces them to respond in some manner.
