The Order 1886 ARG - Missing person

Looks pretty interesting. Bookmarked so I can read through some of the posts on the site later. Assuming it will tie in to the games narrative somehow.

Fan made or viral marketing? Too high quality for it to be fan made.

Got to be part of the marketing campaign.

One of the user posts in the comments mentions looking for the missing person in the hospital, which we know from trailers etc is where something big goes down in the game. I believe the hospital is also where Gallahad sees that Eldar Lycan which roughs him up in the recent E3 demo, but I'm not entirely sure.

All this focus on modern times leads me to believe a few things are possible. A. The game is told from a modern time perspective, as someone is reading stories written about the order from the past. B. The game has some time jumping around that they haven't shown off at all and are keeping secret. Or C. If it does well they can do a sequel in more modern times.

With how much emphasis they've put on making things seem accurate to the Victorian Period I don't see them leaving it unless there's some kind of frame about someone finding out what happened then. I think the modern marketing materials are just to illustrate the lifespan of the knights and the lycans.

Awesome, I love these. Will have a good look through tomorrow :D

Edit: Should be working but can't resist, did a little digging already.

The email thing seems like a dead end. We've got an image of a coded page (with the decoding key included) - way too easy - so it must just be a little warmer upper.

tumblr_nik48jCh2v1u59b9oo1_r1_1280.jpg

It translates into:

NOVEMBER FIFTEEN

LH had an urgent conversation with SP in the Royal Gallery for a quarter hour. LH decarted (sic) the palace immediately afterwards in a carriage I was unable to follow.

NOVEMBER SIXTEEN

SP arrived at three entering discreetly at Black Rod Garden where he was greeted by LH and ushered into the Royal Court drawing room. I did not observe them leaving however. At quarter five, the room was unoccupied.

There's also the two books mentioned which I'm guessing will be useful via book cipher somehow? On this page it mentions the book and a page number but I'm not seeing a page number so not sure whether that's important. That's all I got so far :3

I was starting to wonder what the email was for.

Seems like Ian is missing. But he left this code:

UcrxtfwvRahfzVuyzwXspgbIsfedXgys

He said it's the first of four.

He also posted Darwin's "On the Origin of the Species by Means of Natural Selection: Or, The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life" with a code saying OTP 54614.

EDIT: I think that Alexandria is just a fan, if you go to her profile and then go to her tumblr page, and it's really filled with GIF's from lots of games and movies and stuff.

I think evolution is gonna be a part of the half-breed's lore.

Damn, I was hoping they were elaborate enough to put fake comments in that tumblr page.

I'm guessing "UcrxtfwvRahfzVuyzwXspgbIsfedXgys" is cracked somehow using one of the books somehow? But without page numbers and stuff it's a bit of a shot in the dark. Not sure about the second code.

OTP might refer to One Time Password. It could be that the long code I posted is somehow cracked with that number and using Darwin's work.

I missed one of the posts on the site, it mentions a cipher method by the 'other' Frank Miller. That method being 'One-Time Pad'.

So the long string of characters + 54614 + One-Time Pad = Something.

Damn, I didn't see that one.

The numbers refer to chapter-page-line or something along those lines?

EDIT: Also, thanks to whichever mod closed the other thread, it will probably get some people into this thread to help heh. (I bet it was Kev, he hates moustaches)

i dont trust this jim guy at all.

Haha you never know.

From what I gather with one-time pad encryption, you have a message, you use a key and then it spits out a jumbled encrypted version of the message.

We've got the outcome of the encryption : UcrxtfwvRahfzVuyzwXspgbIsfedXgys

Damn, I didn't see that one.

Not sure, here's everything I found on OTP's (also known as the Vernam cipher).

Wow, it sounds like unless you know exactly what the key is to decrypt it, and you know exactly how the method works, it is completely uncrackable.

Love this kind of marketing. In a way reminds me of the older days where you could read the instruction booklet with some story in it.

I like when you dont know the game....something like a Valve ARG when it was later revealed to be Portal 2 stuff.

So this clearly is meant to tie in with the BCO 'news broadcasts' from a couple of weeks ago, which featured a Lycan corpse being dug up, and a dude in a hoodie who gets hit byt a car, drinks 'a black liquid' and then runs off, seemingly unharmed.

Said virals...

Also - top lulz at TTTT in the YT comments who starts going on about how the lycan body is a Nephilim...jesus there are some mouth-breathing idiots out there...

Yeah, this is the first time I'm this participative in an ARG, I really want to know what's on the other side. And no one else seems to be interested. Oh well. Tomorrow then!

EDIT: Also possible that the news have a clue or something.

I tried looking at the origin of species for a pad. I tried chapter 4 page 164 line 5, which is the last line of the 4th chapter and you can get that out of reversing the numbers next to OTP.

"branching and beautiful ramifications"

It doesn't work with the given encoded message though. :(

Do we know if this game is based entirely in 1886? What if it jumps between time zones and that's why we've seen very little of it?

Megaton. Hope that there isn't an asshole who spoils the game for the rest.

It's going to be ok. Just breath.

In my skimming of Chapter 5 in OTS, it talks a lot about hybrids.. So maybe a clue is in there?

EDIT:
Using the Capitals in the long string of characters and looking up their value is the cipher boox I get the following.

U - 11132
Pryoxene

R - 08946
Network

V - 11312
Ramaden

X - 11855
Rinseed

I'll update if I get anything new.

EDIT 2: not seeing any relevant results. Still not sure what the page number is for the Arthur book however pg 37 directly mentions the Morte Darthur book. And on that is a series of numbers on the first page. I have not used the series of numbers in the cipher, I used the OTP number which may be where I went wrong.

Anu way I'll be at work all day so I can't contribute much any more but most likely I don't contribute anything. I hope to see some cool stuff tonight GAF!

Yeah I think so too. Also because where are you going to find Victorian period sets to shoot your live action ads on?

I really wanna know what happened to Ian next, don't leave us hanging RaD.

I don't think there's going to be any more posts on the main site. Will probably find more stuff once the first puzzle is solved. Gonna have a try again later when I get home. Anyone had any luck?
