Grim Fandango Remastered |OT| The Excelsior Line Edition

Well I submitted for my refund.

Absolutely disgusted by Sony support for providing misinformation and for Double Fine that hasn't done anything to help as Sony fucks up the launch of this game.

I was so excited to play this game and now I am not at all. I am upset, sad and angry.

I don't want to revisit this wonderful game with this awful experience hanging over my head.

I'll buy it on Steam in the future and play it at some point.

Thanks Sony and Double Fine for ruining something I've waited for so long.

=(

So the fact that this was released today, that I pre-ordered it on PS4 and the countdown is slated to end tonight at midnight, which makes it 24 hours AFTER the release date is a bug right?

Is this just because of the theme? Because that's a little silly...

Seriously though, when has there even been an official announcement that the theme will be available for free for non-preorders?

Man how strict is The Right Way trophy? I stuck it on tank controls before even pushing the d pad, but I've accidentally touched the touch screen and activated point and click and so i'd reload the save.

Is it just enough to have tank controls on? Or will I have to be super paranoid about touching the screen the whole game.

Done playing for the night. Absolutely loving it so far. They don't make games like this anymore.

The game really opens up in year 2. I can't wait to explore it all tomorrow.

Someone may have posted this here, but I'm posting it anyway -

Since restoring licenses and restarting or trying to manually DL the game directly from the link on the PSN website did absolutely nothing for me, this worked:

1. Go to the PSN store website on your PC
2. Highlight your user name and select download list from the drop down menu.
3. You will see two Grim Fandango downloads - one for PS4 and one for PS3/Vita.
4. Select download to PS4 and you will get a notification on your PS4 that its downloading.

GFG.

The problem is, many of us don't even have the game listed in their on-site libraries for some reason, so this won't work.

Im a big pc gamer and i loved me some lucas arts adventure games. However i never played grim fandango. Picked up on steam and im enjoying it so far but this isnt in the same league as full throttle or the dig... at least not yet, admittedly im pretty early on.

Does it get better? (Im at the petr. Forest)

It does get better but it might just not be your thing. Especially if you're thinking The Dig is better.

Played in camera-relative for a few minutes, then decided to restart to get the tank control trophy... I don't know if I can do this. I could hardly stand the controls back in the day, let alone in 2015. It's even worse on a controller than WASD. I wish the trophy were just "play the first year in tank controls" or something.

Edit: It's assuredly been mentioned, but to reiterate for newcomers who hadn't seen it yet, don't forget about the Examine button. Friend played for a bit and was just hitting X/Use on everything.

The dig had a much more serious tone if thats what you mean, but thats not the issue. Im enjoying the humor. Im enjoying the game overall really. I just kept on hearing that this was one of lucas arts best... just not seeing that... yet ;)

Year 2 is clearly better than 1 but the excellent dialogue and music is there from the instant the game starts. I'm thinking you'll prefer the other games in the end.

Ive always heard how good this game is and I think i would like it. Anyone have any recommendations between getting it on PC or Vita?

Can anyone help? I purchased the game on PS4, but it won't let me download it. On the game's product page, the button says "Start" instead of Download, and when I click Start it just says it cannot find the game, adn asks if I want to look in the PlayStation Store. When I say yes, it just reloads the same product page. It's in my game library, but I still can't download it through there. In system settings, it's not listed in Application Data so I know it's not installed.

I'm not really sure what to do :(

Download the game through your download list on the SEN web store. Worked for many people.

We need this in the OP:

Step 1:

Delete from your PS4

Step 2:

Go to store.playstation.com (or your regions equivalent)

Step 3:

Highlight over your name and press download list

Step 4:

Click on the PS4 version of Grim Fandango and press "download to your PS4"

Damn these puzzles are obtuse! I'm not above using a guide on some of these. I'm a working adult with limited gaming time, damnit!

It's best to take your time with these sorts of games though and to try on your own to think them through. Solving the puzzles yourself is extremely satisfying and the majority of the gameplay are the puzzles after all. If you need to, try to look at guides that provide non-spoilery hints to nudge you in the right direction as opposed to detailing the solution. Someone linked to one earlier in the thread I believe.

Everything that endeared me to this game is here... 16 years later. Relieved and loving it. Forgot how much the game shifts in Year 2... and how big it is. The music is sooooooo familiar to me. Haha. I feel like I've been dreaming about it for almost 2 decades.

Character development, good writing and wonderful voice acting. I'm taking my sweet time with this. I'm searching everything, listening for everything.

Vita is a bit buggy - but cross play is a nice feature.

Can't believe Glottis is still funny. Haha.

I love LucasArts adventure games (especially Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion)...
But this will be my first time playing Grim Fandango.

Definitely looking forward to it.

Different strokes. I personally though full throttle was good but one of their weaker games. :)

Never played this in my life or even heard of it.

Does everything actually hold up for a new player?

Heard about tank-controls, but I have no issues adjusting to something like that.

It's what, $15-$20? 12 hours to finish? Seems like good bang for your buck

Just caught up on the last few pages of this thread. It's hard for me to wrap my head around being so passionate about a game that you would not play it because of something unrelated to the actual game.

On the phone with support and they keep telling me to wait for the store to complete updating regarding the theme.

I escalated to someone else. The store is updated is it not?

You are going through all this for a theme? Just wait a week, if it doesn't come by then you should be entitled to a refund.

Just relax, companies are motivated to make their customers happy. Especially ones like Sony and Microsoft who have expensive consoles, controllers, games, and online fees to sell you. They want to keep you in that infrastructure, rather than switching to a competitor, or something cheaper.

But you should take a night off.

Nice read on polygon that fleshes out more of the details about how the remaster came about. Bless Boyes.

Totally forgot that Gio Corsi (guy on stage with Tim at psx) used to work for Lucasarts.

I actually read and enjoyed a post on Polygon? That is surprising, I generally ignore all articles from that site.

Like all of these older titles, they hold up fine it just depends entirely on how much your brain has been mushed by modern gaming.

Playing through these older titles such as Resident Evil or Grim Fandango, they aren't designed so every person can win as long as they are capable of holding a controller and being able to press one or two buttons.

I'm about to start my playthrough on Vita. It makes me so happy to hear about people playing this game again and some people getting to enjoy it for the first time.
