ME2 isn't a shooter.
Combat based around guns and taking cover and shooting at enemies while avoiding their fire. Even if you're an adept, you're still using guns and shooting

It's a shooter. It's an RPG, but the combat is 100% a third person cover-based shooter.

Bro, I love ME to death but all ME games are shooters (of course with RPG elements). Thankfully ME3 finally made the shooting fun.

Its underselling the game to call them "shooters". Sometimes I rarely use guns in ME. I can play for hours w/o firing guns. I don't consider that being a shooter.

My opinion I guess? *shrugs*

ME2 is nothing like UC2, like I said earlier, I don't see how these two games can be compared.

Not even a fair contest, ME2 all the way.

But its because Uncharted is anchored by realism so no biotic powers, tech abilities or variety of enemy types etc,

U2 looks gorgeous but I personally found the gameplay quite boring due to this.

So right off the bat, you start off with a laugh. That's your opener. You're laughing at my opinion. Then you insult my opinion by saying that ME2 must have been the first game I ever played. And then you qualify your opinion by an argument of popularity(a spurious one, at that).

So yea, please don't play this, "You're entitled to your opinion" crap after what you said. You were trying to write my opinion off and have a laugh at it quite clearly. Did you really think that went unnoticed? Of course I got defensive after that.

You're right, I apologize for laughing at your post, trolls in Uncharted threads have been increasing lately, sorry about that.

You're still wrong though

Mass Effect 2, and I don't think it's close to be honest. Uncharted 2 is an amazing game that is a thrill to play, but ME2 feels so much more substantial and impactful.

And that last 90 minute section... man, unbeatable.

That last 90 minutes minus the boss fight at the end you mean.

Is this a joke thread?

ME2, there is absolutely no contest whatsoever. One is a deep action RPG with player agency that spans the narrative, amazing companions with intricate back stories, and a solid gameplay built on just plain fun shooting mechanics, gear upgrades and character development.

U2 was an on rails action adventure game with a so so story in which you have no agency and mediocre, shooting gallery style gameplay and just abotu nothign else going for it.

This HAS to be a joke thread.

No offense dude, but your post history suggests that the only joke here is your account...this has to be a troll account, right?

Weird comparison, but since ME was my favourite series to come out of last gen, I think it's obvious which one I preferred more. The Uncharted games are always a pleasant experience though, even if they feel like they are playing themselves.

I don't see how these two games should be compared. Both excellent, but very different. If I had to choose though, mass effect 2 hands down. Uncharted 2 is a great 10 hour romp, but mass effect 2 is a 50+ hour epic saga.

It's kind of like saying traditional crpgs are strategy games at heart, with some rpg elements layered on top. Whether you define a game by its combat or its overall idea.

I mean, the majority of the game is split between selecting dialogue choices and getting into firefights. Within the first minutes of the tutorial, you're taught how to reload, take cover, and shoot. Your main way of dealing with enemies is shooting them. Even if you're an adept, you're still shooting at enemies in conjunction with your powers. It's really not any kind of stretch of the imagination to call ME2 a shooter, at least IMO

calling ME2 a shooter is like calling re4 a shooter. just cause you shoot in it doesnt make it a shooter. does this seriously need to be argued?

I have to give the edge to Uncharted 2 in this case in spite of the fact I absolutely loved ME2 as well.

Everything going on in Uncharted 2 just was so smooth and well done. At no point during Uncharted did I feel what I was doing was tedious or repetitive.

Uncharted 2 was a fantastic experience, even though the gunplay was sloppy. It doesn't hold up well with replays and just isn't as fun to shoot as something like Tomb Raider or gears.

I love the Uncharted games and really don't care about ME all that much. Took me close to a year to finally play through ME2.

That being said, comparing these two games is pretty idiotic. They aren't similar at all.

Oooo! That's a tough one. Uncharted is one of my all time favourite series but Mass Effect 2 was bloody good. I really don't know.

If I hadn't played Uncharted 1 and Mass Effect 1 before playing their sequels then this might be closer, but since I did I'll give this to Uncharted 2 hands down.

Mass Effect 2 was a huge step backwards in alot of ways. The areas were more linear, the leveling system was gutted and they got rid of the Mako! (Screw the hammerhead lol) Even separating myself from how much I loved the original, I really didn't start to like ME2 until about 15 hours in. The loyalty missions saved ME2 from being a total disaster imo. Those are the only reasons to play it honestly. (I didn't really care for the final mission)

Uncharted 2 took what Uncharted did right and made it better. Naughty Dog made a cinematic experience (a term that i absolutely despise nowadays) while also making a really fun game. Its the perfect sequel to that kind of game. Its gameplay was familiar but refined, while its set pieces blew the doors off the original.

Some may find ME2 better since its more open and gives the player more to do and explore than UC2, but at the end of the day I'll take Uncharted 2's amazing 10-12 hours over Mass Effect 2's meh/sometimes really good 50 hours anyday.

What? Is this a fucking joke thread??? Uncharted 2 by fucking miles universes trascending time and history itself. Super novas couldn't explain how Uncharted 2 is better than sex.

ME2 for me if only because I played ME2 more than the other ME games. I forked 3 ME1 games into 7 ME2 games.

What really makes it seminal and stand out to me are the first 2 or 3 times you play through and see how everything is different depending on decisions you made in ME1. It makes things feel alive in a way that I never felt before. That was why the end of ME3 was such a disappointment. The promised escalation of that feeling was never delivered on.

For me, ME2 is technically a shooter. You don't get EXP or LOOT for individual kills, so you are indirectly rewarded for sneaking or just bypassing confrontations if it is possible. EXP is just the mechanism to unlock additional levels. It unlocks abilities too, but shooters in multiplayer do this all the time now. LOOT is acquired by finding it or spending payment from completely levels.

Mass Effect 2 by a mile and a half. UC2 did many great things, but I honestly never cared about the side characters. Mass Effect 2 had you delve into your comrades' lives, and the outcome of the game was better because of it. Also the final mission? Magnificent. Everything about it.

To this day I miss hanging out with Garrus, flirting with Tali and walking on eggshells around Grunt and Jack.

No, no, no! Uncharted 2 by two miles and a half!
lol

On a serious note. Both amazing games, but I enjoyed Uncharted 2 more. The ending of Mass Effect 2 is a thing of beauty though.

LOL

So has anyone done a tally yet. I've seen the word ''obviously'' so many times but I still have no idea who wins.

And God knows how many miles.

Mass Effect 2 by far. One of the best adventures with a superb cast of characters.

Few things can match the feel the suicide mission gave me.

It's an RPG shooter, but I will agree that the two games really cannot be compared. Uncharted is a linear shooter with very light puzzle elements, ME2 is an open world RPG shooter.

In the end, it is essentially personal preference.

But goddamn if this isn't a butt-load fun to compare two games with such divided critics. :)

Uncharted 2 IMO

mass effect 2 had a really horrible story that had almost nothing to do with the whole plot it was mainly a bunch fo recruiting missions.

Mass Effect 1 on the other hand was 10/10 amazing.

I agree. People laud ME2's story but I have to ask, what story? It was literally, "The reapers are coming. Go recruit a team and kill the reapers."

Beyond that it was just you recruiting characters for the entire game. I'm not saying Uncharted 2 had some Oscar worthy writing, but it never professed to be that.

I've gotta root for Mass Effect 2 on this one.

I was seriously blown away by Uncharted 2 from start to finish and found it to be my favorite game of that year.

Until I realized years later that I was still invested in the world and story of the Mass Effect universe and that, in hindsight, Mass Effect 2 had a longer lasting impact on me. So much so that I ended up buying novels and really getting interested in the lore of the world.

I'd argue that while Uncharted 2 was a better game, Mass Effect 2 was a better experience.

That's like saying The Last of Us is just "bring the girl to the people who can save the world." It's accurate, but laughably ignores every little detail that makes the experience amazing. You don't need a crazy concept to have an amazing story.

Mass Effect 2,and that's no disrespect to Uncharted, but, is this really a question? *shrugs* different strokes and all that but I only remember one story.
