Hard to directly compare them, but based on a purely personal experience...

Mass Effect 2. My most replayed game last gen. Amazing package all around.

Uncharted 2 is up there though. The epitome of a "fun campaign".

Between ME3 & Uncharted 3, I still would go with the ME-franchise. Uncharted 3's story wasn't particulary well told. It had the better mutliplayer (though both are fun), but I prefer competitive shooters rather than coop with strangers.

Is this a joke thread?

ME2, there is absolutely no contest whatsoever. One is a deep action RPG with player agency that spans the narrative, amazing companions with intricate back stories, and a solid gameplay built on just plain fun shooting mechanics, gear upgrades and character development.

U2 was an on rails action adventure game with a so so story in which you have no agency and mediocre, shooting gallery style gameplay and just abotu nothign else going for it.

This HAS to be a joke thread.

But mass effect is not as beautiful on console and is not an exclusive game....this matter a lot
For some

Meh.

I'd give the edge to Mass Effect 2, but Uncharted 2 does what it sets out to do better than ME2, if that makes sense.

Uncharted 2 wanted to be an OTT popcorn noshing third person shooter with some lite puzzle solving and crazy things happening constantly - It nails that just perfectly. I can't really think of a weak point when it comes to Uncharted 2's campaign, except perhaps the final boss, but that's just opinion.

Mass Effect 2 is just a TPS posing as an TPS-RPG. Subpar dialog options, poor morality system, but at least it improved on the ME1 weapons. The setting carries the game, and the world building is the best I've seen in a post CRPG Bioware game. Overall, I don't know, I guess it's just more my kind of thing, but it's still far from perfect. It's still a shallow TPS mechanically.

Yes, in all fronts:

Linearity
Cliche storyline
Cliche characters
Gunplay
Longevity

Come on... I love Uncharted 2 but the story is a bunch of holywood clichés.
Mass Effect has an universe built from the ground up with extremely awesome and interesting characters, specially in 2.
It's also much less linear than Uncharted 2 and the gunplay is much more varied due to the team dynamic and biotic powers.

Mass Effect 2 by a long shot, IMO. And I LOVE Uncharted 2.
I always kind of chuckle when people bring up longevity and linearity as negatives. Mass Effect 2 is sprawling and long and filled with missions upon side missions. Which means it's sprawling and long and filled with dozens of side missions and boring diversions (I.e. mining planets)

You know what linearity and a shorter duration gave Uncharted that ME2 lacks? Focus and masterful pacing. You're always moving forward. Every mission, everything you do, is in service of the main plot and characters, no distractions or diversions

And multi-tier levels and Drake's agility IMO gives the combat in U2 a greater sense of freedom than ME2's solely cover-based shooting. In ME2, you may be able to attack enemies with different skills and abilities, but even if you're an adept, you're still mainly using cover and popping out to attack. In U2, your mobility, ability to attack from numerous angles, stealth, melee, etc. makes encounters feel less linear and more freeform and open than in ME2

Mass Effect 2 for me, simply because of the fact that I had my character from the first one imported through, it really helps me be invested in the story when it's a character that I made.

Uncharted 2 was still awesome though so honestly they are both a blast to play.

The only thing that is a joke is this post, and ME2 subpar combat.

Two of my most replayed games of last gen if you don't count the Souls series.

I really can't decide. Both games are such a wonderful and wholesome experience from start to finish that it makes them a joy to replay every once in a while. I mean if did have to decide with a tiebreaker, I guess Mass Effect 2 has the Vanguard class, which is extremely fun.

Well personally for me I didn't like Uncharted 2 and thought it was rather boring, while for Mass Effect 2 I loved it and played through it again immediately after finishing. So naturally I would say I preferred ME2.

How is exactly Mass Effect 2 clunky?

Awkward character movement, omni-button constantly getting in the way, perhaps?

Nah, the joke
post
is on you.

you have no agency

Uh, it doesn't pretend to.

Nope.

Cant vote.

Both of those 2 games were generation defining experiences for me and definitely in my top 5 games of last generation and probably all time favorites lol.

I played UC2 once and never had any interest in touching it again. ME2 is my all time favorite game and I have 100 percented it half a dozen times. So it's no contest in my opinion. Better story, gameplay and characters.

whoa WHOA WHOA....everyone's entitled to their opinion but is this a joke post?

like...better written characters? SERIOUSLY?

ME2 was the shit BECAUSE of the characters. CMON MAN

...ME does not have exceptional writing.
Uncharted, while popcorn fair, has significantly more natural, and economical, writing. Plus the VA is much better.

ME2 for me. Much bigger game and I enjoyed the story more, the intro cut scene alone is a lot better than the best bits of the UC2 story. I enjoyed UC2 but once I'd completed the story I wasn't interested in doing it again, and the multiplayer was crap.

The only thing that is a joke is this post, and ME2 subpar combat.

ME2's combat isn't bad at all. It's not super great either, but regardless ME'2 combat is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (ok I'll stop there otherwise I'd fill this entire page) better than Uncharted 2's fun house, whack a mole, shooting galleries!

Common now.

Uh, it doesn't pretend to.

And how the hell does that make it a betetr single-player experience? It might possibly make it a better movie, but that's not what the OP is aksing.

Love both games, but It's Uncharted 2 for me. I played through it six times and adored the co-op multiplayer.

[edit] Just wanted to add that every time I see these VS style posts I picture the OP as Mr Burns saying, "dance my pretties" :)

Uncharted 2 IMO

mass effect 2 had a really horrible story that had almost nothing to do with the whole plot it was mainly a bunch fo recruiting missions.

Mass Effect 1 on the other hand was 10/10 amazing.

My man

ME1 is so much better than ME2 and is equal to UC1&2 for me.

Regarding UC1 & 2: I think UC2 is the better game, but I like UC1's story and characters better.

I feel ME1 has both a better story and gameplay than the stream-lined (dumbed-down) ME2, and much better characters.

Uncharted games are pretty lame once it has played its cinematic tricks. I find it hard to rate them particularly high in most aspects.

Whereas I think the Mass Effect trilogy has been great. It's not really even close.

Two of my favorite games of the gen, but I have to give it to ME2.

I actually quite liked the gameplay. I liked that unlike 90% of shooters it wasn't constantly focused on getting headshots, I loved the abilities you and your party brought to the combats, and Sniping was an absolute joy. 2nd playthrough was as an engineer, and creative use of drones was a blast.

Thing is, the combat worked well for what it was. It didn't need to be Gears because well, it had other stuff going on in the system.

For Uncharted, I love the game, but I do NOT get the love for the combat. Shooting in Uncharted games often becomes something I have to slog through to get to the story. THe biggest problem is that the guns feel HORRIBLE. I grab an AK-47 and it feels like it's not firing bullets but little bits of dirt at enemies. anything that isn't a headshot does practically no damage even on unarmored characters, and the last missions in the game are just plain BAD. It also has one of the worst last bosses of the entire generation.

Still it does a lot of stuff well, I love the action movie dialogue, I love a lot of t he environments, and I think the pacing is spot on.

Still, ME2 has what may very well be the best final mission in any game ever. The Suicide mission was just boss. Yeah, NOW knowing how to game it so no one dies is loses some of its tension, but the first time out? It was tense as hell, and Garrus DIED (reloaded that one with a quickness). The game also had atmosphere in spades, great VO, and got the dark sci-fi vibe perfectly.

Also:

Best tune in the series

Of course, it´s inconceivable that people like the games that you don´t.

Yeah like transformer is great cinematographic experience if we keep the thing at liking it or not.
player experience /= game i like
I would hope it imply to take two step distance and analyse things and add a little objectivity.
But i can understand why some want to stay on pure subjectivity here

Uncharted 2

Though part of it might be because, to me, Uncharted 2 felt like a massive upgrade from the first one while Mass Effect 2 felt like a downgrade from ME1 in everything but graphics and elevators

God of War 3 was a better single player experience for me last gen.
Same with Red Dead Redemption.

So my list would be
1. GoW3
2. Red Dead Redemption
3. Resistance: Fall of Man
4. Uncharted
5. Mass effect.

This. People who play Uncharted purely as a cover shooter are missing out. The combat can be incredibly dynamic.

...ME does not have exceptional writing
.

It most certainly has exceptional character writing, and considering the story outside of characters is unimpressive in both U2 and ME2, that's what feels relevant here.

It's difficult to compare much else between the games, but subjectively there is far more in Mass Effect 2 that draws me back to it than Uncharted 2. ME2 has better characters, better combat, better interactivity with the story. Then there's replay value which really puts ME2 over U2, in terms of using different characters, different builds, making different choices, etc.

I feel ME1 has both a better story and gameplay than the stream-lined (dumbed-down) ME2, and much better characters.

Mass Effect 1 has awful gameplay. It's incompetent as a shooter and wildly imbalanced as an RPG battle system. The environments are boring and completely empty aside from a few materials and Matriarch writings to collect. Inventory is unwieldly and the guns don't feel as diverse as ME2. The characters lack nuance and half of them are there as interactive codex entries; some characters like Tali and Garrus are lacking the depth of character they display in ME2. Wrex is written well, though.

Pretty much the only thing ME1 did better than ME2 was the main plot, but considering it comes at the expense of fleshing out the characters I'm not sure I like the trade-off.

Mass Effect 2, and I don't think it's close to be honest. Uncharted 2 is an amazing game that is a thrill to play, but ME2 feels so much more substantial and impactful.

And that last 90 minute section... man, unbeatable.

.

There really isn't a competition, UC2 is like a really good Marvel summer blockbuster. You play it once and its amazing but repeat playthroughs exposes the repetitive nature of everything and scripted behavior of everything. ME2 on the other hand I'm still playing to this day, game offers countless amounts of replayability.

...ME does not have exceptional writing.
Uncharted, while popcorn fair, has significantly more natural, and economical, writing. Plus the VA is much better.

There are opinions and there are wrong opinions, this is a wrong opinion.

ME2 had planet scanning which kills any chance of it being a better single player experience. Uncharted 2 is non stop awesome all the way through.

Mass effect 2 was the best game i played last gen after the last of us, its amazing.
But uncharted 2 is more polished, have a cool story too and its probably the best action adventure game i ever played.

This. People who play Uncharted purely as a cover shooter are missing out. The combat can be incredibly dynamic.

I keep reading this but I fail to understand how I can play it any other way than a cover shooter.

I'm terrible with handling a controller anyway, so I really would like an example of someone playing it as something else than a cover shooter. But in my experience it always is, and the combat parts are horrible because of it.

Interesting how it seems almost like a 50/50 split with a wealth of praise and criticism for each, just goes to show they are both great games.

U2 had better gameplay and was just generally more fun. ME2 was so clunky; a cool premise in a cool environment but otherwise felt pretty meh. UC2 punched me in the face and didn't ever let up. Goddamn that is a great game thinking back.

Also with ME2 I remember coming upon the vehicle sections and wanting to throw the whole shebang in the rubbish.

Just wanted to add that every time I see these VS style posts I picture the OP as Mr Burns saying, "dance my pretties" :)

I'm sure that's accurate. I love it though. I find it strangely enjoyable reading 20 posts alternating between with "It's not even close Uncharted 2!", "It's not even close Mass Effecf 2!".

ME2 is clunky for a shooter, but the whole experience is good thanks to the great lore and setting. Music is a big step down from ME1.

UC2 is a great light hearted shooter, better then ME2 in all things individually and as a package. Good setpieces.

U2 was more "bombastic" and had the more adrenaline fueled campaign, and was more enjoyable for the few hours it lasted.

ME2 on the other hand was more involving and had great character development (dumbed down RPG elements though, and less epic than ME1)

However I see myself replaying ME2 more than UC2. I played each game twice and ME2 was still good the second run, while UC2 didn't feel as good as the first time (since it depends on those "wow" moments a lot, and once you've seen them, it loses the impact)

Using height and terrain to flank and sneak up enemies from behind, scrappy melee fights, fleeing from heavy shotgun enemies, climbing to get a better angle to shoot from or drop down to takedown enemies below, using stealth to reducee the enemy count before engaging in a shootout.

Definitely, that's why I'm in this thread in the first place.
