My online Destiny experience is a sausagefest

So after four months of playing Destiny, and reaching a friends list on my PS4 in excess of 100 people, I have encountered... zero women. Nada. Zilch. Zero.

Not one single person I found online, on a forum, on a matchmaking site, in-game, a friend of a friend, or in a random party has been a woman playing Destiny.

In fact I think the sum total of non-masculine voices coming over the mic was a few party member's wives or girlfriends chatting in the background.

So what's going on here? Is Destiny 100% male much like CoD? Are the handful of people I met refusing or not using a mic actually women who don't want to get harassed? Am I, or my (adult, married/girlfriended/parent) male friends jerks on the mic?

I know a girl on my friendlist who plays it. Don't know if she uses the mic or not. Her PSN screen name is ambiguous.

Maybe you play with women and just don't know it.

There's a few women who play the game, just look at the Destiny OT.

There's several that play in the OT..

Both my daughter and step daughter play and raid....no I'm not giving out their PSN names

My co-worker and friend who happens to be a female plays. They are out there. Also look at the Destiny OT there are a few women in that thread that are die hard Destiny players.

My (girl)friend plays with me regularly, so I know there's at least one woman online in Destiny. A couple girls I used to work with also play from time to time.

I've never come across a female player in any online game.

Many of my mmo guilds had a fairly healthy male/female balance in the ranks, and voice chat was the better for it. Often it was families too, sometimes across generations, which was quite cool (fun to raid with mom and dad one night, then rag on their son when he's stuck on some fight with his other group).

Personally every time I join a group online I make sure to state my Name, Sex, Occupation, and Bank PIN# so that there is no confusion down the line.

A lot of women don't use mics because guys tend to freak out and get really obnoxious/harassy when there's a girl playing. Has happened to my wife the few times we aren't in a party chat or playing with random people.

I have played with one female on my friends list who uses a mic.

The game isn't exactly designed for you to know since you have up be in a fireteam to hear each other and I never do fireteam chat with randoms. My guess is the splits are probably similar across all of gaming.

There are obviously going to be SOME women who would play it, but as a whole Destiny doesn't strike me as the kind of game that would appeal to them.

So like, 5% @_@ ?

I guess the ladies have better taste in games then you.

Does every Destiny thread need to turn into the echo chamber of ignorance?

OP, there's a few women players who are mainstays in DestinyGAF. Videogames in general always tend to be more male oriented. Not surprising about the ratio at all.

COD is definitely not 100% male. As you hinted at, because of the kinds of communities that usually build up around such games, female players don't always announce themselves or do things that might get them attention.

Hmm interesting experience, but I can say that every time I play Destiny I can say with 100% certainty that one of the members of my fireteam is a female. My wife.

We don't play with voice chat on, haven't raided yet, but I am interested to see if our experiences match.

I am pretty sure it's just you though.

I've never come across a female player in any online game.

Back when i played Everquest (99-04) we had quite a few woman, including mothers, which was pretty cool considering we were a top raiding guild. Oh and most of them played Cleric too, or a type of healer.

MMOs are filled with them. My LOTRO guild leader was a girl. She was great too.

ITT I learned all the female gamers are playing MMOs

There is chick from on here who did a few of the official threads, Dax something or other.
She must be pretty active.
