I miss Destiny 2

I don't know about you guys, but I miss Destiny 2. It was a really cool game, and I still can't quite understand why the player numbers have plummeted.
I especially liked Gambit as a game mode, but also just exploration and the chance to progress a little bit each time I log in.

The monetization got on my nerves but I never thought it was that bad. Or at least I ignored it for the most part. I always looked forward to the seasonal events. It's a shame there wasn't more variety.

And now I'm sitting here with no game to switch off my brain and play some fun multiplayer with other people.
How are you (former) destiny fans all doing? What do you think is the reason Destiny 2 ultimately failed so badly and what is a good alternative besides warframe?
 
So do I, haven't played in months. Hoping something comes along to replace the void but haven't even turned on my gaming pc in weeks. Destiny was only thing keeping me in the hobby really. Spend my free time doing other things now.
 
Fun fact. I always hated how awful the aliasing in Destiny 2 was and I was never able to get into it as a result. Its a shame because the game always looked great to me but yeah, i cant stand aliasing
 
Destiny was my go to game, and apart from seasonal activities I was the minority that really really liked Gambit also.

Still there is really nothing like it in the market. Been playing Division 2 again and loving it so far.
 
Spent more time on D2 than I'll ever admit. But it was always up and down, even when it was operating at full proficiency.
MP needs a full reimagining, that turned to shit very early on and never recovered IMO.

Hot take: Forsaken was peak Destiny, topping TTK only slightly.

I'd agree with Forsaken. Sure Destiny had some great highs but that was peak for me also.

Nothing beats OG Vault as a Raid though.

Forsaken was also my favorite time to play destiny. Shame it was vaulted.
I always thought it would be best to make destiny a pure PVE game. Or at least keep PVP and PVE separated.
 
It was my get go looter shooter.

But I like to play at my own pace. Then, out of nowhere, Bungie announces that half of the game's content will become inaccessible to focus on upcoming DLCs. That was the last straw.

One of the scummiest moves I ever saw in game monetization
 
I missed Destiny before Bungie turned it to shit, before they started deleting content, and before they made monetization their primary goal. I don't know how anyone cannot understand why Bungie has lost most of it's fanbase with the way they treat their customers.

And, no, Marathon is absolutely not a replacement for Destiny.

I miss D1 and the feeling coming home from work and booting up and hooking up the guys on comes and go explore and do nightfalls and strikes. Good times.

Did that really bother you? I understand i guess but it was content that nobody played. Never once did i get the urge to play that Red war campaign shite again.

I think they should just release D2: Everything edition at this point even if that would be 300gb and then stick it in maintainace mode and make D3.

Destiny 1 was a really great game. I really wished they would have continued with that instead of making destiny 2.
But in the end, we got 2 and I played that for far too long and had way too much fun.

It's a shame that it's almost irrelevant now.

It bothered me because I didn't get into the game until the 4th or 5th expansion.

They should at least do a system like Halo Master chief collection. You want to play that content? you download it, play and delete it after.

Fair enough. Most of the content was irrelevant to the game and pointless to play, but i'm not making excuses they could have done things a lot better for sure.
 
Destiny and 2 were great. But without a major revamp it's pretty stale. Marathon is Destiny 3 from a perspective of feeling new yet familiar for Bungie gameplay. The game is just starting and they are listening and moving toward more PVE as well. But going back to destiny it's old and broken with out the pvp /pve aspect would really be kind of boring going back as your just remembering patterns etc. PVP aspect makes it way more unpredictable and fits the game's narrative perfectly.

Someone here stated it best, I forgot who. But they said Its like all modes of Destiny wrapped into one. Plus it takes out most of the time wasting BS.

Best way to put it is they mashed Destiny's pve and pvp together.

All you need us some of the missions to be more fleshed out in game and a reskin and everyone would be claiming its the best thing since sliced bread.

I played D1 and 2 extensively and Marathon has launched in a much better state than either of those games.

Aside from both being first-person shooters with a sci-fi setting, that's pretty much where the similarities end.


Marathon is an extraction shooter — you're going up against other players and mechanical android enemies in a high-risk, loot-based game modes


Destiny is completely different. It's built around a wide range of PvE content — full campaign, strikes, raids — with numerous alien races and structured progression.


They play very differently at their core. Marathon doesn't even compare.
 
I miss it too. But I played it for tens of thousands of hours. All things must pass.

It's just tired. We've done everything. We've found every gun. Run every dungeon and raid.

Time to move on.

I think you guys are reaching. Just because it lends a single % of similar gameplay elements (that you can find in literally every other game as well) doesn't make it a mash-up.

Not to mention a single-activity destiny mash-up is not going to sound interesting to most Destiny players.

Destiny thrived when there was a multitude of equally relevant stuff to do. Coupled with the social aspect and having the ability to just relax and have fun.

LIke I said I've only played a couple of hours but I watch a friend play a lot and this guy has more hours in Destiny than all of us combined. His opinion doesn't differ much from mine in the sense that it's just a sweaty shooter with little other redeeming qualities compared to what Destiny was.

They are the same you just have open world missions. Destiny had extraction aspects all over, they were just masked differently.

The witch queen was pretty good too. Feels like the last hurrah in hindsight.

I guess when a studio starts prioritising queer empowerment you're going to lose your way.
 
I had 7 to 8000 hours invested in destiny 1 and 2, I miss it immensely but I quit back in May of 23 and I'm ok with it. Miss the raids with my buddies, miss trials and the fun of getting to the lighthouse, miss crucible as there's nothing like it and the chaotic nature was so much fun, I miss IB, it all was one of my favorite games ever and was there day 1...but bungie wasn't as invested as I was anymore and I felt it and I couldn't waste any more Time in there.

I'd be game for d3 but if not then oh well, sucks but yea it was one of the most memorable gaming rides in my life.

As someone who's most played game for the past decade has been Destiny, now I'm tempted to try Marathon. I was not enthralled with the beta. It just seemed like a more confusing battle royale type of thing.

Cool well thousands of hours in d and d2 each here and about 100 of marathon so far. I think I have a pretty good baseline of what I am referring to. It's odd that all the people that have put time into it are saying one thing here and the ones who have not aren't. I'm not saying it's the same thing. But it's the next evolution of the series as halo was to Destiny and marathon to halo. Yes there are not single player PVE modes, but if you looked at most of the time played in the series of Destiny it was not in the campaigns even though they took the most effort. I'm not saying they can not co-exist but the next destiny can't just be the same shit with a 3 behind it. Bit for Marathon you have to give it a little time for it to click. Destiny was no different we just forgot. I remember playing d1 campaign and was like that was ok. But didn't know what the hell was really going on until. A few friends started running heroics missions, strikes, raids.

It was bad, I didn't want anything to do with it originally but when the server slam was approaching I warmed up to it and was kinda semi looking forward to it, couldn't fucking stand it... Awful all around and not a thing like destiny imo
 
Got some good memories of the first one actually. For some reason the game was getting destroyed at the time, but then the second got praised when it was the same thing with absolutely nothing new in it. The first invented everything and the second got all the praise.

If you played and enjoyed both the PVE and the PVP in Destiny you really can't go wrong.

Fair warning though its punishingly difficult, think contest mode but all the time and it doesn't explain itself very well at all. I'd jump in when season 2 starts in around 6 weeks if you are on the fence.

No reaching here i have over 3000 hours in Destiny over the the years, its not for everyone granted especially if you don't like PVP but like i said slap a new coat of paint on it and add a few strikes and you'd have D3 in all but name, unless you are expecting D3 to be exactly like D1 and 2, which we all know would be a disaster.
 
For awhile there I was semi digging the rumor or idea of D1 getting a modern day refresh, I actually wouldn't hate that to be honest... To start over in D1 and just get those same feels again, crucible, trials etc... I'd absolutely be fine with that over D3

Dude. It's nothing like Destiny.

The guns share the same dna. Other than that, it's a balls to the wall extraction shooter. Imagine running a raid, getting loot and then some hunter is sat in the corner, invisible, with his knob out.

He then shoots you and steals your stuff.
