I miss Destiny 2

That's the thing man, that fucking shit did me in for the rest of my life lol I mean it's one of my proudest moments but also one of the most rage inducing gaming things I ever did, it really was. So I just don't seek out that kind of stuff anymore tbh, love pvp forever but not like that.
Comp PTSD, its understandable.

Yea, the ups and downs swings of being juuuust right there and then losing and losing progress made me hate really any type of loss like that in pvp. Trials was a bit more controlled because it came during the weekend and if it was a bad weekend, come Monday it was good fuck off lol but comp was forever, I'd sometimes get in ruts just getting so close to getting to that level and then dropping down, and It just wasn't fun to lose progress.

Its why similar with battle royale, to sit and play a mode where most of the time it's a loss even being able to achieve getting in the top 10 top 5 etc... I found it unfilling, and then even when I won some it felt just ok, didn't have that dopamine hit that fuels the "one more match" mentality, was just a little soulless to me so it's why I got nothin got BR as well.

Dark zone in division was also just ok, like I had a group and we banged it out but I dunno never was that satisfying either way.

Not surprised you're trying so hard to be a contrarian here. Didn't you put Mario 64 and fucking Arc Raiders in the same boat as well? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Marathon is nothing like Destiny. Why do you want to die on this hill so badly?
Because there are foundational connections that are hard not to drawn lines to after putting time into both. 3-5 hours into Marathon your arent going to get it fully.

That's all you have?

The folks who've actually put time into both have gone over the similarities but you who admitted they only put five minutes into one of the games in question knows more. Laughable and frankly as you put it delusional.

five minutes

5 hours. Learn to read.

With 5 hours on Destiny 2 I can: Play several missions, several strikes, several pvp games, several seasonal activities, obtain about 50 new guns/armor, craft new weapons, enjoy the social space, and even finish a small raid.

If 5 hours of Marathon can't give me even the most vague resemblance of those things then I don't know what to tell you.

If you can do all all that in the first five hours of Destiny then you deserve some sort of medal.

yeah you could say im kind of an epic gamer :messenger_sunglasses:
Look nobody is arguing that Marathon has a similar amount of content and activities that would be retarded. You are comparing a quick blast on a demo weekend of a smaller game to a monster of a game that has been recieving updates for 7 years. The OP asked for and alternative as he misses the game. Marathon is as close as you are going to get.

It plays very similar, has similar systems, very similar guns and perks and a similar endgame. Its just a smaller scope and a different structure. If you can't see that then like i said you just haven't played enough of it.

You might not like it and thats fine but you can't argue against something you have a very limited experience of.

I think tho a Warframe perhaps would be more in line with a void filler.

I just think it boils down to this destiny is mostly chill gaming and marathon is not chill hah I mean I hope we can agree with that, and thats why mostly no destiny gamer is gonna pop into marathon and find a comfy void filler for destiny in that game. It's just way to extreme opposites.

I could never get into that game I tried a few times. I always fancied it but like Destiny (and Marathon) just seemed a bit impenetrable.

Marathon can be chill if you like camping with Rook. Its like fishing, no risk, usually you don't catch anything but every now and again you get a whooper.:messenger_sunglasses:

But no its not a chilled game most of the time. Depends on what you are doing i guess.

Edit: Yeah the audience that Destiny has these days are mostly PVE folks im guessing, so a tough recommend. Anyone who was enjoyed the comp days, pinnacles and trials then it's an easy recommendation.

Yea same actually with Warframe I tried it but it was way to late into it's cycle, the only reason I say it is I know some of my destiny buds that bounced to Warframe alot as an alternative, it seems on paper like a decent looter shooter but the currencies and all that really just went balls deep.

In my opinion, this is why destiny to me is irreplaceable and was a special game. No game captured what destiny offered, the notion of like said above I can strike, I can just patrol, I can pvp, I can sweat pvp, I can raid, I can work on guns or gear... That was a special game and it's why I'm just bugged bungie didn't protect it more as it's front and center for another 10 years.

I just think it's ran its course and they are out of ideas.

Theres only so many time you can get Fatebringer or similar.

Nothing they could do would top VOG, WOTM and Last wish to an extent for me. Someone said(you?) Forsaken was peak Destiny 2 and i agree, I also enjoyed the grind of Warmind leading upto it as well.

If they do make a D3 then i pray its not more of the same. Time for a massive shake up and a fresh take on the formula. Maybe some of Marathon is a test bed for it.

Oh yea they'd hopefully have more fresh takes and ideas in d3 but I do love the core concept of pve and pvp, I just love a classic arena format in pvp so I'm always up for tdms, Dom etc.

The thing with d3 is if it devolved into absolutely more of what current d2 is, I would most likely Peter out way sooner than what I did with 1 and 2.

Its just sad they didn't realize destiny was worth continuing or at least taking the gamble for, I said before I don't mind marathon existing but I don't get why they had to basically kill off destiny to do it, that's my biggest beef

How true is that though? Yes they delayed the forthcoming expansion at the expense of Destiny to get Marathon out of the door but the population decline started right after TFS. Ultimately they should have ended D2 then as planned with the ten year thing and already been working on D3.

Bungie's a big studio and "only" 300 were working on Marathon at its peak, what was everyone else doing? Yoga?

I jumped out after TFS. The light and darkness saga was done. Didn't see any point in continuing the Destiny cycle of them constantly fucking up. Refusing to admit they've fucked up for a while. Then spend the full content year getting the game back to a really good place. Then immediately fucking it all up again.

But from what I understand, they've really fucked it up with all the changes that came with edge of fate or whatever and the portal system.

I still laugh about all the sunsetting weapons and armour. They did it in D1 and people weren't happy. They did it in D2 and people weren't happy. Then finally reversed it. Now the new gear system is sun setting in all but name.

Almost everything you paid for apart from this content year is worthless in current Destiny too. No point running any raids or dungeons. Cause Bungie forgot they existed or some shit.

The retards running Bungie are something else.

Its very true because I personally felt a shift in 19 or 20, I could tell the game took a massive turn in so many areas and sure enough is when we learned marathon was what a huge portion of the pvp team was moved to, and it's why it led to me quitting finally in May 2023.

No d3 on the way is a crime imo, I think unless they have an ace up their sleeve they have now 2 weak performing games and that migit not cut it

I really ask myself if that would have changed anything. To be clear I do want destiny 3 to be a thing with all the hopes of what the game could be.
But let's be realistic here. If Bungie can't handle destiny 2 and constantly fucks it up how can we be sure that they will handle D3 properly?

You can't. I was genuinely surprised, Marathon turned out as good as it did. Bungie was burning the community well before it turned on them.

Can't be sure but it's worth the gamble for a series thats been able to maintain for 10 years only recently going down hill.. It just requires pure dedication and bungie to commit, but there's no guarantee it'd still have the magic but like I said if so many other games get multiple iterations a destiny that's lasted 10 years I feel is worth the gamble

I was always under the impression PVP got ditched because they couldn't monitise that of the game side under the FTP model they switched to and Marathon was a solution to that.

Guess its the same thing depending on how you look at it.

Games like Destiny need gear resets due to power creep, just Bungie never figured out how to do it properly without pissing everyone off.

Eververse still was making money. They could have supported pvp more and made money through that. But they were having a hard enough time making content seasons and yearly expansions. How often did yearly expansions not get pushed? Like once, twice for d2?

Oh I agree they where shit, its why i dropped the game, but like i was saying they couldn't include new maps and modes in the expansions because it would split the base, so in their eyes the PVP side of things was costing them money to run with very little in return. Obviously short sighted and greedy as it cost them a ton of players including myself.

Yea I mean I never heard that as a projection personally, I remember all the reports and vids going up from cross and true vanguard and many of them going on how the pvp team has been shifted and broken down in favor of Marathon.

Because in that 2021 maybe 2020 time line, they had this big "renewed" focus on pvp that was supposed to happen and it never did.

It still sucks no matter how it was sliced and diced, they squandered easily imo one of the best and most unique pvps ever, the chaotic the nature was so good.. I played thousands upon thousands of matches, I miss it greatly.
