So if Solid Snake and Solidus are both clones...

Why wouldn't Snake watch the news?

He'd isolated himself in Alaska and cut himself off the from world Rambo style.

I understand the actual explanation, but I always imagined that this was the "real" answer.

On a serious note: Whoever wrote the script for Liquid's lamentations in MGS1 didn't understand the scientific significance of dominant and recessive genes. Liquid used it like a quality declaration, unless Big Boss just happened to have only "good" dominant genes and "flawed" recessive genes.

Yes they did. Naomi even says it doesn't work that way at the end.

Its made clear quite a few times that only Solidus is a true clone of Big Boss. The other two Snakes are weird pick-and-chooses of Big Boss' genes. "Clones" in that they use the same gene base, but Solid and Liquid are both engineered.

You don't need to come up with shitty explanations using Nanomachines. This is literally something in the MGS series that makes sense, aside from technology of the eighties being super-advanced in terms of genetic engineering.

Yeah, but Solid knew what Big Boss looked like, so how come he never noticed the President looked just like his former commander and dad?

Plus whatever anyone says, I played MGS2 and MGS3, Solid Snake looks just like Big Boss. Well, BB has a higher poly count I guess, but is that canon?

Accelerated aging hit Solidus earlier, plus he's an exact clone of Big Boss and Solid and Liquid weren't. Solid is made up of Big Boss' recessive genes and Liquid the dominant genes, the rest is filled in by the genes of the woman whose egg they used.

Probably already got answered since this is the second page.

Solid Snake was not an identical clone of BB as Solidus was, so technically they would not look identical.

Solidus was a perfect clone of BB though, so they would look identical. Solid probably should have thought that BB had somehow rose from the grave.

I always thought that one of the "twists "in MGS1 was that Liquid kept thinking he got the "shit" genes when it was really Solid and that Solid beat him through sheer will.

I mean, when you look at it, Liquid is pretty much better than Solid at almost everything.
Solid Snake is basically the "hard work and sheer will" character the Japanese love so much while Liquid is the "crazy gifted super genius"

Before MGS1 he had no idea about clones, that Grey Fox survived, or that the government had Big Boss' remains and created genome soldiers. Liquid explains they are clones during the game. During MGS2 Solid clearly knows who Solidus is. He yells his name the first time he sees him.

MGS1 is god tier and honestly didn't need a sequel, but it's so good that everyone craved more of that gameplay and universe.

How is it Solid Snake never noticed the President of the United States looked exactly like him? You'd think that would be disquieting to him, especially after he meets Liquid who also looks like him, yet it never comes up as a topic of discussion in MGS1.

Solid and Liquid were customized and have different appearance than BB [Liquid spent majority of MGS1 crying how he had "inferior cloned genes" and Solid was "superior"]. In MGS2 and MGS4 was specifically that Patriots created only one "perfect" clone of Big Boss, and that was Solidus.

Liquid and Solid are not identical so I dont see why Soilidus would have been.

Maybe they had some resemblance but lots of people look a bit alike.

^^^They are meant to look identical. Snake gets freaked out seeing a picture of Liquid.

Yeah, but he knew what Big Boss looked like and he must have known what the President of the United States looked like. In the MGS1 briefing he seemed pretty up to date with current affairs, including the latest round of missile treaty talks iirc so it would be weird if he had never seen a picture of the most powerful man in the world.

So if Solidus is a perfect clone of Big Boss, how come Snake never realised they looked identical?

Its just something you gotta accept really. There is no answer. Get the hell out of here that Snake never looked at who the president was.

If Solidus Snake is Solid Snake's artificially aged twin then why doesn't Old Snake look like Solidus?

Solid Snake and Solidus are not the same at the genetic level. Solidus is Big Boss' perfect clone, Solid Snake was custom made. That's why they look different in their old age.

It's actually quite possible for Solid Snake to not know how the president looked like. Snake was on complete isolation during George Sears' presidency. If Snake wanted true isolation, then it's completely possible for him to have ignored newspapers or television during his time in Alaska.

I always thought the differences in genes referred to the soldier genes. Physically they all look pretty similar aside from hair styles.

TBF dominant genes are dominant the point of the term is that they take precedence. If a child has a dominant gene of jet black hair and a recessive gene of blond hair, the child won't have hybrid hair colour, they'll have jet black hair. Recessive genes mostly matter in passing on traits to your children who may not have said dominant gene, which is how kids with ginger hair can be born from parents that don't have that hair colour.

This shown by the fact the Solid snake looks a lot like Big Boss (dominant take priority so he takes on most of BB genetic characteristics), so it's a fair question, perhaps not identical but extremely similar. The differences would be attributed to the mother genes superseding some of BB. This is why Liquid lamented his inferior genes because solid snake is a much genetically closer clone of BB than he is.

Well, I guess the suspension of disbelief would be that Snake never knew what Big Boss looked like in his 50s. After all, he's in his 70s in MG1. However, how he appears in MGS4 suggests that it shouldn't be a stretch to see the likeness in Solidus and Big Boss. Another excuse could be Snake was out in the middle of Alaska raising sled dogs.

Then why Naked Snake look the same as Solid Snake ? :D
But yeah, I'd also argue that during George Sears presidency, Solidus looked like older than Solid Snake.
And you know... different hair cut... two eyes and no beard... the ressemblance was less obvious.

As stated before Solidus is the perfect clone. Liquid and SOlid are the clones who would look more alike since their mother is Eva and they to a small part of her geneome.
Also Solidus is older than the other two by a good margin.

solidous was older than the other clones. solid snake started aging faster later in his life ala mgs4.

Metal Gear stories are really fun but they are also asinine and require a lot of suspension of disbelief. Just enjoy the ride with a great cast of characters and partake in the bonkers story that isn't as clever as it thinks it is.

EVA is their surrogate mother. They didn't inherit anything from her. Their "genetical mother" was a Japanese woman who was Dr. Clark's assistant, and who donated her egg for the experiment.

No joke I consider MGS2 one of the best written games. It's silly as hell but there is some depth there thematically and in the narrative.

Solidus is both older and younger than the first twins. Solidus was born after Solid and Liquid, but his genetic code was rewritten to age faster, like Solid Snake's was (and most likely Liquid's before...yeah), but to a greater degree.

It's one of the most ridiculous oversights in the series. Fans can twist the story however they want to fit the narrative but simply put it was a stupid mistake to make.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
A) Snake was "Holed up in Alaska, drinking too much" for the entirety of his presidency

B) His look is identical to an older Big Boss, but he has no eye patch and a differently styled beard. You would be amazed how much a simple cosmetic change can affect the way a person is perceived, Solid and Liquid being a good example with their differing hair colors and styles. Solidus was also cosmetically altered to look older in order to have him be an acceptable candidate for the presidency (alternative explanation is that he aged faster, his older appearance is never explained. But seeing as how he is actually younger than Solid or Liquid, who are too young to legally become president themselves, it makes sense that they'd make Solidus look older). But yeah, different hair/beard/wrinkles make him look different enough from Solid or even BB.

C) If someone who looked a kind of or even a lot like you became president, would you really care? You might bat an eye and say "hey, that's kind of weird/cool" but I doubt you'd make a huge deal about it.
