So if Solid Snake and Solidus are both clones...

I like to think Kaz is the forgotten quadruplet. Or maybe at this point everyone looks like Snake. Just look at Johnny "Akiba" Sasaski.

Don't even get me started on Akiba. How the fuck does the grandson of a Soviet soldier become part of the genome army on Shadow Moses?! Also, if his IBS is inherited from his grandfather, so clearly genetic in nature, how didn't the Big Boss genes he got during the genome treatment cure his diarrhea?

genome soldiers aren't like clone soldiers. I think they are just interjected with Big Boss juice.

The Genome Soldiers were organized to cope with terrorist incidents specifically involving weapons of mass destruction typified in nuclear, biological and chemical warfare. Its members were strengthened through gene therapy, having either been injected with the "soldier genes" of Big Boss, or otherwise having their nucleotide alignment rearranged to resemble Big Boss's DNA. Many also underwent VR training, guided by the Force XXI concept, but had little or no actual field experience.

I was aware they are not direct clones, I was just wondering why a project specialized in genetic enhancements didn't fix genetically inherited IBS that clearly affects Johnny's combat / guard performance. In the history of war, diarrhea and resulting dehydration is actually a big problem, something Metal Gear is clearly aware of since the SOP nanomachines supposedly cure diarrhea. Proof of this is that Johnny's lack of nanomachines in MGS4 is given as a reason for him still having IBS, so I'm going to assume part of the SOP nanomachines are there to regulate digestion and I would appreciate at least some lore on why a similar treatment using Big Boss genes was / was not attempted during the genome experiments. There's nothing in Romaneko's book about this :(

But I guess poop jokes win, in the end.

I always assumed that Johnny did not have any of the Big Boss DNA injected into him.

MGS4 makes clear that he's terrified of needles, and that was the reason he did not have any nanos in him. So I think it's natural that he also avoided any kind of injection while he was a "Genome Soldier" back in the day.

Yeah, they used the same face model (texture modified to add age) and voice actor (in Japan) to ram home the point that they look and sound the same-- being clones from the same man.

Later it's revealled that Solid Snake was actually the inferior clone. So how then is Liquid Snake a blond if he received exclusively dominant traits?

Solid, Liquid and Solidus are physically identical. The only thing that sets them apart is eye/hair color and in the case of Solidus, even more advanced aging. Liquid's hair was bleached by the sun when he was a POW during the Gulf War. Solid (and presumably Liquid if he survived) began deviating physically with age because he was not aging naturally, whereas Solidus' aging was natural to an extent.

That's a good explanation, actually. Though I always attributed Johnny looking so much like Snake in MGS4 to the Big Boss genes his was injected with slowly altering his appearance so worlds are colliding here, but I can live with your explanation.

Do we ever get to see the face of another person subjected to the genome treatment? In a game that has actual faces, I mean. Not MGS1.

.

Nope, we never got to see the face of any other Genome Soldier.

Just throw a spoiler in the thread title. No big deal.

Spoiler title, the thread.

It's a fourteen year old game, c'mon.

Why does Solidus look like George W Bush in Shinkawas art in game? But look like Snake in game midel?

Kojima in general tends to take a license when it comes to "apperance consistency", and specially considering that Shinkawa's artwork is very "vague but precise". Hence why Solid Snake has changed his appearance multiple times:

Michael Biehn (MG1) > Mel Gibson (MG2:SS) > Christopher Walken (MGS1) > Kurt Russell (MGS2) > Lee Van Cleef (MGS4).
