APEX 2015 | Fighting Game Tournament | Jan 30-Feb 1

God damn, I almost fell asleep. I love playing sm4sh but man... I don't know what to say. I need some more spikes from M2K to speed things up a little, collectively had 8 hours of sleep these past two days, too much hype.

Edit:

I make no sense. I just want sm4sh to get to GF, its taking a little too long now.
 
The venue kicked them out at Midnight last night?

Welp, there's no way Melee is going to finish tonight at this rate. I feel that Melee is longer than Sm4sh however. Understandable considering what all happened this weekend.
 
On the bright side, by the time Melee starts, the Super Bowl will be over so I can focus all my attention on the matches instead of passively watching matches like I am now.

Nah man, I was there until 12:30 yesterday to see chillin get destroyed and they were going at it. It was probably cause they were there till 1 or 2 in the morning.

it's a trinity of bad organization (too long between matches), bad rules (bo 5 instead of 3), and bad commentators right now. i don't have many problems with the game itself either.

I do think it was a really bad call to go bo5 prior to Winners and Losers finals, that's on the tournament organizers.

For what it's worth I can't recall many, if any major tournaments I've seen that manage to actually end on time, though the supposed hard timer on them for the new venue makes things rougher than they would have been otherwise. If that's the case and time really is such a big factor, then, do as you suggest and complete as much of the loser's side of Melee offstream or on second-stream as much as possible prior to its move back to the main-stage. I still think that putting Smash 4 on the main setup and then kicking it off during the finals sets would be a horrendous look.

im watching bits and pieces of it and reading the twitch chat

personally i kinda like the back and forth between the players it makes the games feel longer sure but man it just feels kinda even to me i guess lol


i do hope they get t melee eventually tho since everygame should have a time in the spot light

sfxt was never 3/5 outside finals IIRC.

I mean, I don't mind long games that are 2 out of 3. CVS2 is probably one of the longest in terms of time used but I had no issues with it.

3/5 smash 4? Why just why? This is going to give smash 4 such a negative look. EVO is probably going to be like "2/3 and lower the time please"
 
Whatever people's thoughts are outside the venue may be, Melee like SF4 at Evo is the main event of APEX shown but the straight entrant numbers, viewer numbers, and scheduling as the finale, the straight up fact the most amount of money and organization was built towards Melee so even speculation of cutting it is terrible.
 
Quite honestly, the "coaching" between matches (not to mention the winners flat out disappearing for no reasons) is the main reason behind the slow-down. The matches honestly are fine time-wise (ok, Debuz is slow). But really, they need to do better organization for the between match stalling.

Looked at the Smash 4 stream for second saw Dabuz & 6WX.

Prepare for the longest match of the tournament for any Smash game, I'm expecting at least 1-2 timeouts.

Most likely 12:30, still bad but ZeRo's sets go fast because ironically he is more aggressive than any other player left.

Coaching shouldn't be allowed, ever, and this has been brought up consistently in the community but TOs don't enforce any hard rules or ban it and it's EXTREMELY annoying. It happens in Melee too and it's bad there. I don't understand it, it keeps happening and it's worse here because they lost a day.

This. It's the first time Smash 4 has been in a tournament this big from what I understand. Melee has been in this position plenty of times.It's success is why it's gotten the final and potentially prime time slot. If a sacrifice has to be made it should be made. It's crazy this tournament is even taking place. If something has to give to make it work it should. What's important ultimately is the finale being broadcast and if time is a factor they should start Melee now on another channel or off screen so they can make the switch right away. Not complain that Smash 4 is taking to long when it really doesn't seem to be. Gameplay isn't slow. The fact that matches are going to high games should be a positive as it shows the level of skill and talent there for Smash 4. Is that a negative for some people?
