I have another suggestion for the melee OP (if you still accept those)
We all know that you cant configure the controls of your gamecube controller in super smash bros melee. Still, in melee, most of the time, theres more than one way of doing each action. Moreover, sometimes, to a new player, it may seem that it doesnt matter to do one action with one button or the other, as it seems that you are doing the same with both, when, in reality, it matters. Personally, I think that one of the first things that should be explained to someone new to melee (keep in mind that, when talking about people new to melee, i dont only mean people that go to tournaments), is the different uses that each button has and how each button can trigger different actions depending on the situation. In fact, I feel that this tends to be overlooked as, compared to most games, melee is rather complex in this regard. You may not be able to configure the controls, but you definitely have options. No matter where a new player looks up on the internet, they will probably learn about L-cancelling, wave dashing, wave landing, dash dancing
before learning that some buttons like the C-stick or the z button have a lot more uses than what they thought:
Example 1, the C-stick: new players know that the C-stick can be used for doing smash attacks and, because is something that is mentioned quite often, they may also be aware of the benefits of using the c-stick for doing aerials (you can do fair and bair without affecting your momentum, uair without double jumping, and dair without fast falling) but they may not know that theres some situations where both the analog stick and the C-stick have
similar uses:
- when you are on your shield, everyone knows that you can do 3 actions with the analog stick: jumps out of shield with up, roll with right or left, or spot dodge with down. Before learning about competitive melee, most players probably used the analog stick when they were on their shield. And once they have learned about competitive melee, some will continue to use the analog stick. Why? Well, like I said before, its actually a lot easier to read/watch about things like L-cancelling and wave dashing than it is to find an in deep explanation about the different uses of each button. So, many people that have played melee in the past wont be aware that you can use the C-stick for moving out of your shield and, if they are, they will probably think oh, its the same thing. Neat, but im used to using the analog stick, so ill continue using that. As we all know, its actually crucial to use the C-stick instead as, unlike the analog stick, it buffers the action and allow you to do it as soon as you are no longer in shield stun. Instead of mashing the analog stick for rolling, what a new player would need to learn is to hold the C-stick in the desired direction.
- grabbing the ledge, this one is actually a good example of how what you can do with each button changes a lot: you can roll with the R trigger, the L trigger, or moving the C-stick towards the stage; normal get up moving the analog stick towards the stage; ledge attack pressing a, b, z or moving the C-stick up; jumping moving the analog stick up, pressing x or y; fast falling moving the analog stick down; dropping the ledge without fast falling moving the analog stick backwards, moving the C-stick backwards or moving the C-stick down.
- when you are grabbing someone you can hit them with a or z and you can throw them in 4 directions both with the analog stick and the C-stick.
- the C-stick is also important for DI in combination with the analog stick
etc
Example 2, the z button: new players know that the z button can be used to grab. They may not be aware of some of its uses. In many situations it acts like the a button:
- it allows you to charge the smash attack that you performed with the C-stick.
- it can be used for doing aerials. It can be especially useful for doing your nair.
- it can be used for L- cancelling.
- for doing your get up attack
- for hitting people after grabbing them
etc
Im not trying to make a list of every use of each button or anything like that

I just wanted to comment on this aspect of melee because I thought that it would help new player if you, Anth0ny, could talk/mention it in the OP, or give a link to somewhere where it is explained
So
do you think that it would be appropriate to mention this aspect of melee in the OP?
