I honestly do not believe this for even a second. We've pretty much seen the metagame move mostly in one direction, and that is favoring characters with safe aerials and throw setups. The most that will happen is Diddy will no longer be #1, and maybe we'll see more Pikachu. Characters like Ganondorf, Ike, and Bowser will still be screwed, Zelda will settle into bottom tier, Yoshi might move up or down, and everyone else will pretty much stay as they are.

Only thing that can save this is customs being allowed in tourneys.

Wait so even there were only 3 Diddys in the top 8, two of which got eliminated and the GF had a Rosalina. People still think Diddy is OP?

Lmao. It's the player not the character. ZeRo is light years ahead of everyone else.

Some people also probably chanted "MELEEEEE" like last year. Sigh.

It's not the community figureheads but people who are just ignorant as hell and poisoning the well.

I won't hide my colors on this: I absolutely despise Brawl and Smash 4 on a professional game design level and can definitely sympathize with those people.

what's even worse than all this hubbub is all these people suddenly representing the community claiming all it is a toxic pool of poison
all the Kappa s

Welp, time for Melee. Oh, Splatoon video, cool!

He might be a cool dude but Smash 4 has way better commentators. Anyone that was on stream yesterday would have been preferable.

I agree that there are better commentators, but not that they're "way" better.

My favorite commentators overall, though, were the Asian and black guy duo who called themselves Rush Hour (don't remember their names).

I'm actually surprised at how smash 4 was played at this venue. It was way more entertaining than it was in previous tournaments i've watched.

Echoing with some of the posters here, the problem isn't the game. It was the downtime, coaching, best of 5 very early on. Hopefully it wil best of 3 till final matches at evo. Overall it was good. A lot of players/characters surprised me, and top 16 was varied so it was good.

I wasn't implying anything other than the fact it was supposed to start at 9:00 PM EST.

I'm no Melee player and I love Sm4sh.

Why is everybody here so defensive? :(

As best as I can figure:
- Smash 4 players worry that Melee players will bulldoze their "slow boring game" and leave Melee as the prominent Smash game, shoving 4 aside like Brawl sorta was.
- Melee players worry that Smash 4 players will bulldoze their "old obsolete game" and make 4 the prominent Smash game by footstooling off of the years of work the Melee community did to raise the game's profile.

God forbid they try to actually work together and make both styles of game successful, but it really feels like there's a lot of "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!" mentality, which may or may not be extremely silly.

this is how i feel watching smash 4

Part of the message of Apex, at least what I took from commentary today and yesterday, was that type of behavior didn't need to take place and wasn't necessary and shouldn't be there. If anything those shouting like that are stepping on what was trying to be done and the relationship that was suppose to be being built with Nintendo. Let's be honest here. There are some that hate anything that could potentially take some of the spotlight away from melee. Not replace but simply take some of the attention away and live along side it. That's what I've always took as the reason why people were so quick to dismiss Smash 4 when it came out and not even wiling to give it a chance. You can prefer melee. That's fine. It's the outright dismissal of Smash Wii/3DS and the insulting way some do it that is bad. I can't stand that bs.

tbh i don't find smash 4 interesting to watch. Its not that I want it to be melee2.0 (I don't even play smash like that), its just something about smash 4 isn't fun to watch. But I'm not going to boo it off. People thought CVS2 and KOF98 were slow as shit but I loved them.

Smash 4 just needs to more regulations when it comes to games in a set, coaching, and handwarmers.

I enjoy watching Smash 4 far more than Melee because Melee is so stagnant at this point. You can only watch so many videos of Fox/Falco/Marth/Sheik with the occasional Capt. Falcon or Jigglypuff.

...is a Nintendo announcement still happening?

Did you see what we had to sit/listen to for the past 3 hours?

;D

sorry man, but it's frustrating wanting to watch and discuss some Smash4 when all you hear is

"fuck Smash4, when's Melee?"
"cancel Smash4"

well you know.

It's true, but I've got to say it really goes both ways, with lots of people desprespecting Melee and its fans as well: on both sides there's people not even trying to understand the others.

Most of the times it's a shitfest all around.

EDIT: I think the last 10 or so posts, written while I wasn't even looking, just proved my point...

God forbid they try to actually work together and make both styles of game successful, but it really feels like there's a lot of "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!" mentality, which may or may not be extremely silly.

Agreed 100%

Melee fanboys are toxic. Personally, I'm sick of watching Melee...

Their animosity to anything other than Melee gets tiresome as fuck.

Like who? Brawl or Sm4sh fanboys? Where are they?

Match length in particular is what gets to me when it comes to every Smash game.

Individual matches that last longer than 5 minutes are virtually unheard of in other fighting games; an 8-minute standard for Smash is just nutty in comparison.
