I think this is a little ridiculous to be honest. I don't think anything nefarious went on with the colts. I think if anything went on behind the scenes, it was simply owners/coaches pissed off- most likely harbaugh- about Bill thumbing his nose at certain things. Harbaugh is a bit of a sore loser as it is (his brother is worse), and he was pissed about the formations. It was seen as a cheap move to him, and while it was technically legal, he cried foul. I think they pulled this on them knowing the technicality of the rule, it was basically pulling a belichick on himself.

well at least before the game he said he blamed the refs, not the pats, so there is that.

I have sworn to never buy another EA game, but I'm now compelled to buy the next Madden. That was the greatest Madden curse of all time, the game even called it, and Sherman ended the game in tears.

Bravo, EA!

I bought Madden 15 digitally. Great game. I didn't mind buying it digitally because I didn't intend to buy another iteration this gen. Well, now I'm compelled to buy the next one.

I know the feeling. Now imagine instead of back-to-back SBs you were going for the first ever 19-0 season. And instead of your opponent picking off a goal-line pass that never should've been thrown, they completed a circus catch to a no-name guy who literally caught it with his helmet. I was bummed for like a solid week after that game.

Oh it was the worst. I was sitting on the floor at that point, completely resigned to us losing again on a fluke play. I actually said "Let him in!" on the first down run. From the go-ahead touchdown, to the tipped-kicked-and-bobbled catch, to the interception. What a roller coaster. Damn, what a game!
yea collinsworth and michaels was talking about just letting him in for the easy score and on his first run attempt my heart stopped and I cried a little on the inside and said to myself its over. The pats then got the stop but I was pretty sure the hawks would feed the beast and we wouldn't be able to stop him 3 more times and then it happens! the goaline interception is thrown! lol.

I was was stunned that Bilichick didn't call a time out immediately after that play.

Isn't it crazy how much we care about sports? Tribal group think 101.
Just amazing how much we can be affected by something we literally have put no effort into haha.

I would hate to be a seahawks fan. Just a big kick in the nuts. After all of this, I wouldn't blame y'all for just crying all week. The pats can have a parade and y'all can have one too. Y'all can have duck boats too. For the tears.

Have Seattle fans excepted that the Patriots are the better team? Or is the vitriol mainly at the coaching staff?

Doesn't matter to me, I'm a neutral fan.

Bandwagon cleared pretty quick. Was overloaded ever since last year. Fuck em. I'll be honest, if Seahawks had to lose, I can be happy at fact that it gave Brady his 4th ring.

Going to hit tomorrow though. I recorded it all at home. Will go back to that play over and over. Cusp of super bowl victory on goal line.

I know you are feeling the pain I felt when the pats had there perfect season and lost a close SB to the Giants. You will never fully get over it but you will learn to live with it.

Yea I suspect Seattle will be back, provided they pay Lynch. That offense isn't the same without them having that hard to stop threat in the backfield.

Anyway, I wonder who the Pats try to get in the offseason? I'd like to see Tom with another tall receiver to throw to one more time. Randy Moss was the only one with some real height on him. I need to see Tom chucking passes to a 6' 7"+ dude on a go route down the sideline again.
Bears are trying to trade Brandon Marshall(who happened to be sitting with Goodell today) i really think Belichick may trade for him

And I think I found my winner for best meme of the night.

Casual observer, I don't really blame him (I dont know why, I guess I mistakenly think QB=buck stops here) he should have called a timeout or ran an audible. The 'blame' relies on the individual who called the play.

Still from a casual perspective, it was the best super bowl that I can remember. It was so fun to watch. Such a damn good game, both teams played exceptionally well. I was surprised that the running game was shut down so easily.

I'm one of those guys that only watches one NFL game a year, and even I know passing that ball instead of running it had to be one of the stupidests decisions in sports history.

Specially after that sensational miracle catch. Must've been heartbreaking for Seattle fans.

Honestly with the Ravens being the only real threat to the Patriots I don't see why they won't be in Super Bowl 50. Hell imagine if the team was 100% healthy you know Mayo and whoever else got hurt this season

Or he should have just not thrown the ball late and with poor location.

Nod. No doubt, I just don't think that was the play to call in that instance.

Especially after that sensational miracle catch. Must've been heartbreaking for Seattle fans.

I'm in the same boat, had no real care in the game. But watching the miracle 'catch' and going from that high to the interception was soul crushing. I'm really happy for Pats fan's, I can only imagine how that low to high was.

Well yeah but you could say that about pretty much any team, couldn't you? I mean imagine if this year's Ravens weren't starting guys off the street in the secondary. We actually had pretty good injury luck this year I thought, especially compared to last year.

ravens are lucky they get to play a 3rd place schedule next year. Watch them and the pats be the number 1 and 2 seed

I thought that was him... so bizarre

Mayo stunk all year before he went down. Besides no team is 100%

As a Giants fan, I was broken after watching Game 6 of 2002 World Series.

This is way, way worse. Really feel for Seahawks fans.

Pft, both those franchises have nothing on the heartbreaking ending to the '97 Indians. At least the Giants and Seahawks have won a championship in the past 50 years :P

That is the thing about this that will still hurt tomorrow. For the actual Seahawks fans, Jesus, I'm sorry. But look at it from the other side, when that interception happened...Pats fans probably had a such an awesome moment. All the stupid sidebar shit, the game was exceedingly well played. I watch the super bowl and a few games here and there, I cannot remember a better super bowl in recent memory. It was such a show, I was shocked at how fast the game was moving. I was actually wanting to watch more.

It was a stupid call, but hindsight is 20/20.

Carrol takes risks. We saw it plenty tonight. He opted out of a guaranteed 3 to go for a touchdown and it paid off. This time, it didn't. The odds of an interception happening right there were next to none, and if the Seahawks scored on a pass when everyone on the planet was clearly (judging by the reaction) expecting a run, Carrol would still be a genius. He might not call the plays, but he'd still be the one labeled genius.

Even with an incompletion, at least the clock stops and you still have time for a run, if not two with your timeout. Most coaches wouldn't object to those odds. There was literally maybe a 1% chance for an interception there, and the Seahawks rolled the dice with those odds. Had they ran the ball, it would've been just as likely for Marshawn to fumble, except running would've given them 1-2 chances instead of 2-3. They just lost their bet. Or do people think that Malcolm Butler actually had a premonition? That the game was won by divine intervention?

... Actually, I wouldn't want to see a poll on that in Boston.

As someone who doesn't have any stake in the game, I'm kind of glad that it happened just so that we got an incredibly memorable game, but I'm not really prepared to crucify anyone over make a bet that most people would happily accept the odds on.

On the other hand, it does feel like a total fucking Andy Reid move.

I hate to keep bringing this up but they easily could have ran the ball 3 times. They ran like 30 seconds of clock that they didn't have to and had a timeout. Short passes over the middle at the goal line are way more likely to be turned over than a run. It was a really really really dumb call even without hindsight. The Patriots have allowed TDs on the ground 81% of the time in that exact situation this season.

I feel bad for Caroll now though, he looked really shaken after the game.

To keep up with the fact Brady got a ring, here is how you do a proper goal line pass. Unless you have a megatron type receiver who can jump and secure ball with easy, that's pretty much all you're limited to. If you need to pass, fake to Lynch, look for open TE.

Even then, the risk of a fumble by Lynch is ridiculously low compared to an INT, especially in a game where Brady already had two, and last game where Russell had 4.

It's why there is unanimous agreement it was one of the worst play calls ever. 1 yard goal line, 28 seconds, 1 timeout. Plenty of time for the run which is the smartest option, especially with a guy averaging over 4.3 yards per carry.

I see what you're saying, but they had the room to try a pass in a situation where the Patriots were likely doing everything they could to stuff the run. I doubt that 81% statistic was available to the Seahawks in the moment. So much of football is about working around what your opponent expects you to do. It's why we have screens and draws and play action.

It's only stupid because they completely, utterly failed. If it was just an incompletion, which it would've been at least 9 times out of 10, it'd just be a play that happened.

I don't know how you can say that the 'massive receiver fade' is the only option on the goal line when Edelman had 14 points locked up on moves in the front of the endzone tonight alone.

Even if the risk of an INT is higher so close in, it's still low enough to stop from calling anyone 'crazy'. I don't know how Brady having 2 INTs against not-the-Patriots and Wilson having 4 in a game that wasn't this one has any relevance, really. Wilson had 0 interceptions! Lynch had 0 fumbles! Equality through extrapolation of meaningless stats! Tom Brady has 4 INT games too, but no one would tell him he shouldn't have thrown on the goal line tonight with the way things panned out.

The dice were rolled, and Seattle came up short. It's only one of the worst play calls ever because of how it played out. That sounds stupid, but looking at it from prior to its conclusion, it wasn't a some heinous act of irredeemable idiocy. I guarantee you if I spent any time on it at all I could come up with a dumber Andy Reid play.
