I love playing Smash 4, and I love many of the Smash 4 sets I watched. Abadango was really cool to see too early Sunday. I think the spacing games and Dabuz/Abadango going to timer was not very exciting. Much of the top 8 were slow games because of the players and characters in it. Watching a chess game will not hype the crowd as much as the Melee top 8. I enjoy betting on random people going in aggressively and spectating, but players standing back and 2 stocks needing 8 minutes is not the best showcase. I wish Amsa was in the top 8.

Yeah, I just played Smash 4 for 2 hours straight so I definitely enjoy it, but high level play at APEX didn't do the game any favors. The game just isn't as exciting to most people.
A friend of mine's daughter got into Smash 4 and I've been teaching her the ropes, but when she watches Smash tournament matches on youtube she always skips around until she sees a Melee match. She's like 7 so she doesn't realize it's a different game she just thinks the video quality is ghetto, but she jumps up and down with excitement, she gets bored with Smash 4 matches.
I never even knew she knew how to use Youtube so I don't think I influenced this, but I could be wrong.

about Smash 4: the people wanting Dabuz to fall off so that the game looks more offensive are hilarious; if the game favors that playstyle, he won't be going anywhere, if it doesn't, he'll fall off naturally unless he plays differently

It really is and makes me want my own kid. Teaching her about DI and calling rolls is basically the best thing I've ever done, haha.
Sadly, PM has to be out of the loop for as long as Nintendo is involved. I'd rather have Nintendo's involvement over PM, but it is a travesty. PM is definitely the 2nd best Smash game behind Melee. The amount of creativity those guys put into PM should be applauded. I'm glad Smash 4 has more creative move sets, but with the types of move sets available before Smash 4, PM definitely did the craziest stuff with them. They also matched character movesets with their respective games alot better.

I don't know. On the one side, it was pretty stupid of people on reddit/PM to harass him and D1 for an answer so shortly after APEX. (These people seemingly have no understanding of how NDAs work and that they don't simply expire instantly.) But at the same time, PM does deserve some sort of an answer.
Then again, reddit has been a shit hole since the end of APEX. APEX turned the community into a shit-show with the "Melee" chant when ZeRo won... Fuck.

I agree, but only slightly. Everyone *should* be impressed with Project M, as it's a fine piece of work. But at its very core, the very existence of it was designed to say "we can do a Smash game better than Nintendo can since they won't listen." It may have turned into something else entirely over the years, but that was the initial message. And while the work they have put into it is something that everyone should admire...you'd have to be ignorant to not see how it truly is arrogant.

Brawl Minus existed before PM, was that arrogant? PM is Project Melee, they made Brawl play like Melee, to the Melee scene that is ALOT better and is exactly what those players wanted, so if they are modifying Brawl, are they supposed to not make it like the game that made them passionate to begin with? Does that even make sense? Are the developers of Alundra or Darksiders arrogant for making a Zelda-like game? I think this conversation only exists because they are indie and filled a niche.

I just hope people in the Smash community realize that they have absolutely nothing to gain from trying to reject Nintendo or antagonizing them in general.
They really aren't trying to, they just want to play the game they love.
However a lot of people in that reddit thread are rather toxic. Feel bad for the PM fans that are super respectful to Nintendo. Vocal minority might ruin it for them.

PM is cool and even the idea behind it is cool. Often developers are at odds with their core fanbase, it just happens. PM was a nice outcome all things considered - the fanbase likes it and Nintendo is looking the other way.
You can't expect Nintendo to legitimize the fan project though. Best you can hope for is they implement some of the good ideas it has in future installments.

That's not his point. The point is that they're tampering with Nintendo's IPs with a hacked version of Brawl, and adding characters from other companies that they have no reason to. They are playing with fire and they either don't know or simply don't care. And it's that kinda shit that's going to get them in hot water.

What I want to know is what the competitive community and the competitive community leaders actually want. It sounds like they want different things from the series.
Community leaders know how hard Melee worked to get to where it's at and they want Melee to stay big, but they also want the other Smash games to be big because they know how disrespected Melee got back in the day (from the FGC) and they hate seeing Melee players do the same thing to the new Smash games.
They want Nintendo involved because more Smash game support means more Melee support and hopefully one day the community and Nintendo can have a meaningful back and fourth. It's a long play that PM fans just don't seem to get.
Edit: Of course that may not be true for all of them, but from the ones I've spoken to that's basically it.
This is what happens when you love a game that isn't made by Valve or Riot.

Im pretty sure they don't have any 3rd party characters except those in brawl. Also since you need brawl to play it and PM isn't monetizing it they are legally in the clear here, but this is just me parroting what I've seen else where.

PMDT are working to Add a Golden Sun character another Fire Emblem character and Knuckles. I think that's what was being referenced.
