Letting the lure of trophies dictate your playthroughs? das not it mane

Of course its not like that. However a trophie is a simple addition that can add to the replay value, and since its a SP only game, it would fit percetly fine, just like most games do, a trophy for each difficulty level. Specially if that turns out being only 5 hours long.

For SP only games, the replay value is something important (or at least a long campaing, what clearly is not the case). So if theres no trophies for replaying on higher difficulties, I hope they add some unlockables when finishing the game, such as skins, weapons, or even cheats, to incentive a 2nd playtrough.

This quality from just barely over a year into the generation. Just think, we will look back at this game in four years and wonder how the graphics ever impressed us.

more from the other thread.

Was looking at these thinking how nice the MC model is, but that cloth clipping through the gun and thinking how you'd be looking at that happening through the whole game (Maybe?) sounds distracting as hell imo.

Really good looking visuals otherwise though.

From what I've experienced of TLoU, I don't think cinematic shooters are really my thing, but I can always appreciate really impressive technology in games. Really beautiful.

You don't really have to shoot all that much in TLoU though. Game gives you options.
I certainly wouldn't call it a shooter.

~5hr playtime the first time through is disappointingly short even if he rushed through it. i hope the game paces itself well and the narrative unfolds in a natural way.

Oh wow, really? Gonna hold off on buying it then till I hear more impressions.

Just under 5 hours sounds like someone who just rushed through on an easy setting and dare I say it even maybe skipped cutscenes? If that's possible. Either way, I doubt very much that will be the overall average playtime for most. Though if being the cool guy on the internet who says they beat it super fast is your thing, be my guest.

This game looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! Just need to know how the gameplay is. I want it to be a blockbuster sensation.

Looks beautiful, but sadly this is just one of those games where I want to be sold, and I'm just not. I've been burned on too many $60 purchases in the past couple of years to where I have to wait for impressions.

Pre-ordered the game

I disagree. Those look very good, but point me out any obvious weaknesses in the Uncharted models. This is likely the highest LoD (if they do have LoDs):

If anything, this looks even better to me.

The Uncharted model does have better texture detail, but it even with all that crazy detail, it looks more "gamey": it's too clean, sharp and the lighting makes it obvious. The order looks closer to CG, because it has added muddiness to its visuals (movies usually do this, you won't see clean visuals in movies). Also, The order SSS (Sub Surface Scatering) seems better since the technique does make skin a little blurrier, while Uncharted's still clean looking

The skin in the Order there looks pretty clearly lower detail, but I think this is also effected by the lighting and post processing. The light play across Drake's brother looks more sophisticated to me. It looks about uniform across Galahad's face in the Order pic. I like the consistency of the Order as others have said. But seeing both games in motion, it is not just the main character models in U4 look better to me, the facial animation also looks more advanced. Anyway, I will shelve this discussion until after I have played the Order and more on U4 is released. I don't want to take anything away from the visuals in this game. They are very, very impressive.

The facial detailing and animation in Uncharted is better, that's ND's strong suit. The characters in The Order though are no slouch by any means, but in terms of model alone Uncharted is a bit ahead. It's the natural lighting and material shading in a highly consistent environment that's why The Order characters look so natural. As it stands now, Nate stands out because of his level of fidelity versus the environment and other characters.
Doesn't this game use facial mocap? I recognize one of the actors. I mean, last I checked, ND still hand-draw expressions.

Anyone know if there is a review embargo for "The Order"?
Will reviews come out in time for me to decide whether or not to pre-order?
I guess I can pre-order at gamestop and just not pick it up if it comes to that and if I pick it up I still get the bonus hopefully.... Thx!

Thats what I'm wondering. I think my main "worries" will only be explained in a review.

I want to know the game lenght, how is the exploration, how is the shooting and wich are (if theres is any) the incentives to replay it.

Typically an embargo ending before he release is a good thing, right?

Even if it's just a few days, doesn't that show a little bit of confidence?

5 hours for a 60$ SP only game would be unacceptable and RAD would deserve all the shaming they get.

Who said the game is 5 hours?

PSN profile of someone who has the game now has the gap from the first obtained trophy till the last game completion trophy at 4 and half hours. No trophy for any side stuff.

Realistically, that pegs the game at around 5 hours minimum.

Send the friend of yours a message confirming this and upload a screen shot.

I sure as hell hope it's longer than 5 hours and is more like 8-10.

I get the feeling a lot of journalists will beat in around 6-8 hours, with a lot of us on here taking 8-10, purely because we're more likely to take our time and take it all in. That is if the games length really is similar to Uncharted 1's, which had similar scope in play length depending on approach.

Er...

2014. They were talking about the game's reveal last year, not the review embargo.

I don't think we know the review embargo for The Order yet.

God, you are right, I hate year transitions. I will keep thinking we are in 2014 until july I bet. >_>

Same. Looks pretty, but they still have shown me nothing to suggest I should spend 60 on this. Especially not with the backlog I have after the recent holiday. Was hoping these videos would do that, but they didn't.

Oh thanks! I didn't see the 2014 in the small print... If the order has a release day review embargo then I am not pre-ordering because I know what that means...

Shaders look better in The Order. Also, The order just looks more realistic. People dont look like that, almost too much detail int eh Uncharted pic. Reminds me of the Crysis 3 pic.

Honestly, even if the game is fucking awesome, I'm expecting a release day/midnight review embargo if only as a precautionary measure against a sizable amount of less-than-positive previews of the game.

I've seen tons of reviews where the estimated play time is on the low side because the reviewers needed to play on low difficulties for the sake of their workflow. Obviously a game can still be short given this, but a few claims of a short game mean nothing when a normal or hard play-through might be almost double that length without feeling stretched out.

Admittedly, a single-player only game will be a little touchier for something like this.

The whole five hours thing comes from this PSN profile that has completed the game (Spoilers in some of the trophies, click at own risk):
http://psnprofiles.com/trophies/3291-The-Order-1886/wMikkel

First trophy obtained was at 10:32 AM on Feb 3rd. The trophy you get for beating the game was obtained at 3:24 PM on Feb 3rd. That's five hours. Now, there's no way in knowing how long it took from start up to the first trophy obtained. Just the time from first trophy to completion trophy is shown.

I'd imagine the review embargo will be a day or two before the release date though, since it's been gold for several weeks now. Seems like they're fairly confident about the game with all the marketing out there.

Like I said before, the fact they are lifting the medias embargo two full days before the launch of the game could point to a certain confidence in that title. Hopefully it won't bite them back. :/

p.s. I'm pretty sure it won't. :P

Shinobi said its like UC1. So around 8-10 hrs long.

It took me about 12-15 hours to finish the first Uncharted on its first playthrough, and I didn't spend that much on exploring the game. Also, I had my share of third-person shooters, so I am accustomed to those kind of experiences. So if it's anything like the first Uncharted in terms game-length, I can't wait to play it.

Maybe an european game critics getting ready for its review in two weeks. :P

5 hours? So this person was lying?

Also- time-stamped trophys are glitchy as all get out-
LOL it's shinobi XD

And I think the time to finish a game largely depends on each person and how he/she enjoys playing games. If we spend time watching every cutscene, playing the game slowly to enjoy gunfight and finding collectibles, the amount of time can be stretched to many hours. Otherwise, a game can be finished very quickly if we keep skipping everything and rushing. So yeah, I don't think we will ever get the most accurate number.

I think someone in the other thread stated that the first trophy was get five headshots in slo-mo, then it was 5 hours until he unlocked the ending trophy. That first trophy could have occurred at any point in the story.

Hopefully so. It's a beauty for sure, but consistent performance coupled with this kind of look would be the real marvel. Don't get all the pessimism this game garnered at the beginning though- beautiful graphics and a potentially interesting story, coupled with what appears to be fairly tight gameplay.

True but I doubt that first trophy would take more than an hour max to complete imo.

Again the Orders characters look more lifelike and natural while the characters in UC4 look more artificial the pic you posted the guy looks like a super res GTAV character.
I don't know about that. They both look great, but UC4 characters have far, far better expressiveness and facial animation. That's one thing that's kind of neither here nor there in The Order. The facial animation is good, but it's not best-ever good.

So even my 10 month old daughter wants in on the action aka I'm way too excited to finally get to play this. If only she get's to see this picture when she gets older lol

Super Mario Galaxy was release day embargo. Sly 4 (Sony) was release day. Release day =/= bad, only no review copies.

Edit: Not SMG

I think part of why alot here seem to think the Order looks more impressive is the amount of post processing that game has going on. I think the assets, lighting, textures, etc are equally impressive in U4, but they haven't got much post processing going on in there yet to give it a more filmic quality which the Order captures better than any game I have yet seen. Personally, I think it is predictable that people will be blown away by the next U4 showing.
