Seems like there's nothing to actually complain about in here. Toggles are being provided for customs, sprint is being nerfed, strafing increased, chatter is optional, fewer medals...

That means everyone will complain.

Only complaint I had I don't see being addressed was to return to more traditional SFX for shield strength.

Alright...so, not raged...delighted.

Important improvements to point out:

• Toggles for sprint and Spartan abilities
• Option to turn off Spartan chatter
• Reduced bonuses for automatic weapons in smart-link & with headshots
• Faster scoping sniper
• Increase base player movement speed

Looks like we're not getting traditional scopes on the weapons...aim down the sights animations are here to stay, at least judging by Holmes' blog.

Here's are my questions now:

1. What are going to be the default starting weapons?
2. Will we have separate multiplayer playlists that feature no sprint and no Spartan abilities?
3. Will we have separate multiplayer playlists that feature no sprint and some of the Spartan abilities?

One thing that worries me is that they will have one playlist that will be called Halo Classic and it will be a mix of slayer and objective featuring no sprint and no Spartan abilities. I for one will play this, but I think some of the Spartan abilities were not half-bad...and what worries me even more is that we will be forced to play custom games to get enjoyment out of Halo 5.

Personally, I don't want to have to rely on custom games to enjoy Halo 5.

This worries me too. The community splits...I hate those. On paper, we're going to have a 50/50 split already in Halo 5 and the game hasn't even launched yet.

Increase base speed (faster base movement)
Increase strafe acceleration (faster, more responsive strafing)
Reduce top sprint speed (narrow the delta between base movement and sprint)

Good stuff (SPNKr btw). And you inadvertently bring up an interesting point. People here had been saying for awhile now that the SPNKr wouldn't work with smart scope so the rocket launcher was redesigned. So what the hell is the scope going to look like for the SPNKr then?

Also, seeing as this is at least one human "legendary" weapon confirmed, does that mean there's still a hope for the vaunted Keyes' Magnum?

That's a pretty strong list of changes. It's good to see that feedback is being taken to heart, though I hope grenades get tweaked a bit further away from their monster beta status. Very glad to see them sticking to their guns on the ranking system and not making it a more individualistic system or going back to 1-50 (the great, dark secret is that 1-50 wasn't ever actually good as a way to display your rank or progress as a player), it's the right decision. Hopefully weapon vibration toggles being included is indicative of the ability to turn off impulse triggers - that actually needs to be an option at the OS level, I can't stand them.

I'm actually not sure how much the Hydra needed to be buffed mechanically so much as have its visual feedback tweaked. The small projectiles didn't seem to have any illumination on them prior to detonation so it was tough for players to parse what effect they were actually having. In terms of effectiveness it seemed to be more or less equivalent to a concussion rifle, maybe altered a little bit in perception by the mobility changes. When you look at a concussion rifle, or a brute shot, or the grenade launcher, though, it was always very obvious how the projectiles were behaving and how they were going to change the moment-to-moment gameplay of a fight - can't really say the same for the Hydra shots. This, I think, is actually just one of the big symptoms of a problem with how the art and design of (sort of all) 343's Halo game work (and Saber's, and to a certain extent Certain Affinity's) fail to mesh properly on the player feedback end, as though the two teams are not able to make a satisfactory compromise between graphical flair and combat readability.

(the spnkr was always going to be a legendary variant - they're not crazy enough to not have been planning to include it already, c'mon now)

The surveys were sent to a limited sample size. I have no idea what the sample size was, but it would be nice to know how many were surveyed so we can actually get a reality of what the 11% is.

Why? I think we've established pretty clearly that the people of NeoGAF are not indicative of the community as a whole.

The surveys were sent to a limited sample size. I have no idea what the sample size was, but it would be nice to know how many were surveyed so we can actually get a reality of what the 11% is.

11% of the people who signed up for feedback as part of the program. And I don't want to talk about the surveys, but there was more than one option.

Also, I doubt if we, other communities didn't ask why the SPNKr was gone, they would have brought it back either way. They probably saw that we had the right argument in that it is an integral weapon to Halo, and that there is enough time to make the model, get it into maps as a legendary weapon on some unsc map, and to keep it relevant in the universe. I know after I posted a lot about it, I was reading similar sentiments on waypoint and reddit about it being missing.

Its crazy though, how many people got more spartan charge kills than ground pound.

ADS remains a core tenet of the game and (doesn't appear) like it can be toggled or turned off in favor of traditional scope.

My biggest issue with the feedback and the direction 343 is taking this game overall is everything has to make sense in the "lore" of this game. It has to make sense in the overall story of the game. I'm going to go out on a limb here, but a majority of the people that play your video game give two shits about how a spartan should "feel". This can be alleviated by gathering a bunch of pros at 343i and vote on dedicated Spartan Abilities before it releases so we have a set, competitive game/settings out of the box.

Heinz has already mentioned he'd love everything but no sprint for HCS.

I'm just so worried that this game will die competitively and I hope they do another beta to ensure a proper vote on HCS settings so we don't divide the community and have toxic chats (not that it wont always be there no matter what, but at least a bit better) every tournament.

edit: i also want to know what they plan on doing with the game playing so slow at higher levels w/ sprint AND thrust. Pro gameplay will be very slow b/c of these.

Maybe we'll get a ranked server browser like BF so people who don't want to play MM settings can still enjoy the ranking system. That or have an HCS settings playlist w/ or w/o pro voted settings.

Is that for all maps? Ie. Orion had the glaring sun, Truth had a ton of haze and cloudiness, Eden had the dark tints that diminished clarity of blue team etc.

Yeah... the hallmark of a great competitive game is base settings that are the same for all and I just know if they make sprint mandatory for HCS we'll be hearing pros/competitive community complain every tournament/on forums.

No, they have. I remember Josh doing a post about it on Beyond a while ago. Essentially, the argument is that by forcing the player to choose between high speed and offense, they create more dynamic choices, or some such (could somebody find it? I'm stealing a moment at work). So, even if you disagree, saying that they've never tried to explain it in gameplay terms is just false.

Forget the bro shows, killcams are off by default. You know how many jimmies I'll personally rustle by teabagging people again? That's one of the top three changes for me. Seeing the area around my body, seeing what happens to guy who killed me, etc. The others were bringing back classic scope, turning sprint off (increase base movement and strafe) and turning killcams off.

Seems like Flinch is gone, they're going to do away with the grenade destruction in mid-air, etc. Right away the game just seems it'll play better. Quit penalties and bans as well.

I hope one of the toggles is turning ADS off, so that we can create classic Halo game play fully. No mention of maybe having classic zoom there in some form. I hope they'll look into a custom games browser. That alone would probably keep the community going so much.
