Sounds good, nothing in that will annoy me I'm pretty sure. You seem a little picky but that's the point.

I'm not hyped or have any unreal expectations as to what the game will be like, so I'm not out to point a pitchfork here but...yeah, some of that did seem nitpicky to me.

Edit: And you're not the only one who doesn't use 180 quick turn. In The Last of Us I used it once...when the tutorial prompted me to.

Insane to me that they wouldn't take the easy stuff like the 180 quick turn, dodging, and cover transitions. Seems like any cover shooter where the player has a significant amount of weight should give decent mobility options.
Its because of that weight that a quick 180 does not make since.

I didn't even remembered it was in TLOU, is the quick turn in Uncharted also? Pretty sure it's not..

Thanks for the criticism therman2k.

there's no switching cover corners

Odd, I remember doing this at PSX. Also remember a tutorial section early in the game where they showed this. Could be misremembering.

getting out of cover is a different button then getting into cover

Eh? The game has a soft cover system where there's no need to hit any button to exit cover. Remember this being very intuitive at PSX

no option to change control layouts at all

Bummer. The default layout looked perfect for me but i can imagine this being an issue for some. Hope it gets patched soon, if not day 1

no 180 quick turn option

Barely ever used it in other TPS games, I personally won't miss this.

friendly NPC get you out of cover or in you'r way etc...

This could be an issue for me. Not uncommon in TPS games, but I might complain about this if it happens at crucial moments

Weird design decisions:

All of these could be annoying. Will have to see for myself.

Not really concerned about black bars or available weapon slots. If that's how it's designed, I prefer to think about how to work optimally within those parameters

The mission structure is good though there's sometimes no continuity between them which strikes you pretty hard. So you can sometimes think "wait, i just were in that place, how i ended up here so fast? what happened in the meantime ? oh well..".

Was worried about mission structure, which really is the meat and potatoes of the game. Good to know that it's good (I've heard the same from other friends who have shared impressions discreetly). The lack of continuity could be an issue if there was no exposition whatsoever.

RAPIER I LOVE YOU!

BTW can you please comment on the actual gun play, I'd love to hear a contrast with theman2k :). Thanks!

As soon as i get to it.

Just savoring everything. RAD spared no expense rendering this game's locales.

Well i'll just post impressions for what it is for me.

First of all the very core is off, the black bars with the camera placement makes everything strange as almost 30% of my screen is for my character. simple stuff like looking around, enjoy the environments and taking cover isn't fluid. It's not broken but i feel it didn't hit the sweet spot either. The UI is good except the weapon selection, which takes almost 30% of the screen while up, while your left side of the screen is your character and your vertical screen sides are black. There's so much room left to engage.

The controls aren't perfect in a genre that has been perfected.
Cover based games like Gears or Uncharted or The last of us did really good job there.
I don't see why RAD just didn't copy the formula, there's no switching cover corners, getting out of cover is a different button then getting into cover, no option to change control layouts at all, no 180 quick turn option, friendly NPC get you out of cover or in you'r way etc...

Weird design decisions:
when you want to stealth kill using triangle you need to time it with a flashing circle around it other wise you just fail. problem with this is, the flashing circle with the flashing triangle is so quick it's easy to miss. I mean, why can't i just press triangle and be done with it like when i face the enemy face to face? shouldn't be easier to kill them from behind unnoticed?
QTE's are weird, you get an explanation when there up but until you can read it for the first time you fail it, and it changes from time to time so you need to readjust but not as in God of war that you knew a head the general idea how to tackle the QTE.
You get a lot of item inspecting to do, but when you get an audio log you need to manually listen to it from the pause menu.
Having one primary weapon is fine, but your sniper rifle fills that spot and as soon as someone comes behind you there's only your pistol and it doesn't cut it. instead of 2 grenade slots a third slot for heavy/sniper weapon could have been better.
Once you hold a lantern you cant take cover, why? Can't i just put the lantern down and dispatch my enemies in a not uncomfortable way? It's the DOOM 3 gun/flashlight dilemma again but with lantern/cover.

The mission structure is good though there's sometimes no continuity between them which strikes you pretty hard. So you can sometimes think "wait, i just were in that place, how i ended up here so fast? what happened in the meantime ? oh well..".

Those are some really odd choices.
Tho I guess they're something I could get used to.
Hopefully they will streamline it better in Disorder 1887.

*very in depth impressions*

Thank you so much. This is the kind of gameplay analysis I usually look for (and is usually very hard to find outside GAF, even for older games).

The weapon selection taking space won't bother me, but the rest seems pretty much many of the issues I have with almost all cover based shooters =/
That's too bad.. But I hope it is still being fun to you! I'm probably still in though, as I'm sure it is going to be fun playing with family and friends, even if only for graphics and story alone.

I feel like a lot of these gameplay quips will be remedied in the inevitable(please) sequel. If they have any intention to throw in multiplayer the controls will have to be as intuitive as possible.

For now though I can live with not being able to switch cover corners or no crouching with a latern equipped.

You have any share shots of said locales?

sounds like the game is more frustrating than actually fun

:(

edit:sadly for those reasons im out.

edit edit: I was joking,I was watching shark tank and felt like saying that. I am hyped for this game

So you can switch from cover to cover. Just not around corners?
*shrugs*

Yeah that's what i meant, you can transition between two close covers, you can't change side on the same cover you already hide on.

And about the 180 comments, enemy flank you, wished i just could turn and melee them.

My advice to you and to everyone: Do not let one person's impressions deflate your excitement. Similarly, don't use a few positive impressions to feed into some confirmation bias.

I can't help but remember that Wolfenstein OT where people got hyped, preordered it, one dude got it early, hated it, people's hype got deflated (from one person!!!) and then the game turned out solid anyways. Be reasonable folks.

Lol. Weren't you praising it all the way until now? All you need is some criticism to lose all confidence? Were you expecting it to be a flawless 10/10? Even he said the game is solid overall. It doesn't all have to be black or white. Relax :)

Lighting example. It's very natural looking from room to room.

Authentically rendered area:

It just looks like a movie, and the camera makes everything look good.

I'm sucked in by it.

I shouldn't post any more media out of respect for RAD, and you guys owe it yourselves to wait. Trust me.

Thanks for those! Can't wait...

Umm yo do know Theman actually said the game was solid and mention many times besides graphics correct?

Not sure what you are trying to do here.

He's trying to be a prick. He's been waiting for the first hint of semi-negative impressions, judging from his recent post history.

Holy shit. I would spend 10 minutes in that room alone.
Can't wait to hear your combat impressions.

New Order? One of my favourite FPS of all time. And I've been playing those since Wolf 3D.
Another game that begs a sequel.

Most of that stuff sounds like something that will be left to preference. Some people will be bothered by it, others won't even notice it. You could say the same about any game. Even though I loved TLOU, I'm sure I could come up with a list of minor quips about the gameplay I didn't like. It is what it is.

Give me a break the guy has been playing the game and posted concerns about the gameplay just read it. If you can't take negative impressions you can't handle a forum it's about people's opinions.

Played about a little more than a hour so far. Visuals are......wow. Was surprised to see no real-time reflection when I walked in front of a mirror.

Yup. I remember people getting radically hyped, dehyped and then hyped again in a matter of hours. Totally goofy.

Just started playing it! Just found
the resistance!

Can't you use circle to enter and exit cover?

The controls are listed:

Touchpad: Camera Bias
R2: Fire ( Thermite round when using the thermite rifle)
R1: Alternate Fire (Ignition flare when using the thermite rifle)
L2: Aim
L1: Blacksight (basically a sort of advanced bullet time)
D-Pad Left: Secondary Weapon
D-Pad Right: Primary Weapon
Triangle: Interact
Circle: Get in Cover
Square: Reload
X: Traverse/Exit Cover
Right Stick: Camera/Select targets in Blacksight mode
R3: Objectives
Left Stick: Move
L3: Accelerate

Yes, Circle is to get into cover and can be used to get out of cover or to jump to another cover location - as in move around the side of door-frame.

Gameplay impressions?
Not sure how much I can say considering I'm under embargo.

You don't need to hit any button to exit cover. Just pulling the stick away used to work. X (or circle) is really needed only if you want to exit cover while not moving
