Kid share plays Destiny to stranger...

It's sad that he lost his stuff, but I don't really feel sorry for him. At the end of the day it's a game that will be probably be forgotten as soon as the next entry releases.

You say this like he gave the keys to his dads car to a stranger.

Its more like he gave his own car keys to a complete stranger. Even at 11 he should know better. Kids aren't stupid.

11 is old enough to know not to let strangers control your fucking system, how are you not able to comprehend this yourself?

Imagine you are 11. Someone tells you there is a glitch to level from 23 to 31. Your little 11 year old head gets so excited thinking about this that your judgement is clouded. Come on man, 11! Of course this kid shouldn't have let anyone control his system but sometimes excitement gets the best of you. Do you remember when you were 11 and everything was great? You were so happy, so carefree. You loved life. You loved your family and friends. You trusted people. You believed that people were in inherently good. Then as the years go on you learn that the world can be a disgusting place with disgusting people. You learn that murderer's are killing innocent people. You learn that the 7-11 gets held up so someone can steal a couple hundred dollars worth of cash. You learn that a kid selling his ps4 is shot dead over a $400 system. You learn that police officers are choking and killing innocent citizens. You learn about how the middle class is disappearing because all of the money is floating to the few corporations who run America.

Imagine you are 11.

They are, they really really are. And the only people who say otherwise,, are kids that think they know everything.

When i say kids are thick i do not mean there "stupid" what meant was they have 0 commonsense, yes there are highly imaginitive, creative and smart little things but when it comes to common sence there a lost cause.

I'm pretty late to this story, so I apologize if this has already been addressed, but has Bungie or Sony done anything about this? Obviously they don't have to do anything, but I'm curious if they have.

Yeah they know about it... even posted this video in their last weekly update. They also have a warning to be careful when using SharePlay while playing their game on b.net. Kid is not going to get any help from them.

The funny thing is that he keeps accusing the kid of being dumb, when he's too dumb enough himself to realise the kid was behaving like... a kid.

Quit telling people to "imagine you are 11". Unless you're 10, we were all 11 at some point.

If this kid is really that immature, maybe he shouldn't be playing Destiny.

I've been reading this thread and the reactions and I decided to bug my friend who is a dad and he said he was fine with it happening and said:

if you wanna be a lvl 30 cant take short cuts in life
cant expect someone else to grind for you

So I guess he's on team #LifeLesson

I get so excited that I run to google to learn about it. I'm capable of getting to level 23 in an FPS at 11, I can learn how to use the internet.

I'm sure everybody think this about themselves, but I feel I have the most reasonable viewpoint on the matter.

The kid messed up. He was dumb, and doing something wrong. The sympathy meter plummets.
The dude did something wrong intentionally with no benefit to himself. He did it solely to make somebody else's day worse. He is an ass abusing anonymity.

It is largely the kid's fault. Is it good he learned a lesson? Yes. But just because he learned a lesson does not mean the method of learning it was warranted. Nonetheless, because this is largely his fault, while he might not have deserved such a punishment in the first place, he certainly does not deserve to have the punishment reversed. People are asking Bungie to restore his character and all that jazz. That seems silly to me.

I have seen dozens of threads in various forums telling stories of a family member/friend that deleted somebody's character. Why is this kid, who actually shares a large part of the blame, more important than any of those people? The fact that people want to talk about this specific case does not make it inherently any more special or any more deserving of a reversal of policy on Bungie's part.

Then there are the people saying to ban the dude. Did he do wrong? Yes. But did he break any service rules? If he did I don't know of them. I mean- if my friend was over at my house and I went to the bathroom while he deleted my characters, would it be warranted for me to demand Bungie ban my friend's gamertag? Of course not. It would be a laughable request- and far less of the blame would be on me than is on this kid. Bringing us back to the point of 'this kid is not special.'

It's a serious dick move on the part of the dude. And the world would likely be better off without people like him. But he still hasn't broken any rules [to my knowledge] and thus should not be punished in the game.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

People need to understand that the kid was 11, he was being deceived by a 38 yo male. No different than a stranger in a car saying "Hey kid I've got candy". The parents probably were blind to stranger enticements in an online gaming environment, which is understandable to a point.

The problem I have is this 38 yo loser is doing this to people on purpose. It's not the first time. He charms them into share play then deletes their hard-earned characters. He's done it to a girl and an 11 yo kid. That's malicious and borderline psychopath.

As a 39 yo male, I try to keep as far away from being associated to any random kids that are not mine.

According to his mother, this person is a friend of a friend, or at least the kid thought so. You're acting like he approached a random person on the street.

Based on some of the callous responses here you would think that NeoGAF is where civil 4chan discussion occurs. Anyone defending the loser who deleted these characters and blaming the kid for being a stupid kid is pretty deranged. I hope Sony will ban this creep for account abuse.

I think this would be going a bit overboard.

Seriously? I mean, a petty asshole making a 11 year old cry is something people can find funny? Congrats.

And this is why people are needlessly terrible to each other. For the positive affirmation. It's like laughing at a bully's misdeeds in grade school. Good goin', fellas.

Whether the kid is stupid or not has nothing to do with anything, this Kermit guy is a heinous scumbag. A blight on humanity. Why would you cause someone else pain for amusement? Hopefully this idiot will get his.

This highlights how far video games have come.

When I was 11: I have no idea how to get past this section, and I don't want to ask my mom for a strategy guide.

11 year old kids today: I let a man thousands of miles away remote control the video game I'm playing through his console and he deleted my deeply customizable characters in a game where I can be instantly connected with millions of other players across the world.

Life lesson on trusting strangers and trying to take shortcuts to achieve a goal I guess. Better this now than getting taken for something meaningful by a scumbag later in life.

I'm all for it. If the guy was ok deleting progress for some young kid he deserves to lose all his games and for Sony to delete his progress. I will never interact with the majority of psn players but I think psn would be a better place if trash like this were removed.

i'd say borderline. you do not use a service which has conduct as a stipulation to approach children and maliciously deceive and bully them. i'd ban him from psn no question. you are not garaunteed service from psn, you can be banned for conduct.

it is profoundly disappointing to see people focus on the culpability of an 11 yo rather than condemn an asshole. im embarrassed for some of you.

I don't know what Bungie is waiting for ban him, considering he broked the "COMMUNITY CODE OF CONDUCT" at least on two points...
I don't understand why anyone would allow a stranger to have remote control of their system. What was the intended action? He would log on and play with their character for a bit? Can you imagine giving a stranger remote control of your computer? What was this girl thinking?

Okay first, why would you allow a complete stranger take control? Like just have him explain it, even if he offered to do it for you which I'm sure he did, the kid should've told him to fuck off and that's it.

Second, fucked up shit that happened to the kid and I know it takes s lot of time and effort to lvl up in destiny but it's honestly no reason to cry. I'm sure the kid was frustrated just like anyone would be but like dude don't cry about it. I also agree with people that Sony or Bungie should try and maybe do something. Try getting a hold of the kid and make it up to him in some way. It was a dumb idea on his part but damn.

Couldn't have said it better. Especially the bolded part.

Lack of empathy isn't limited to a certain age group.

Of course, but in my experience, there's a phase when being a dick is seen as being cool :)

.

What a terrible comparison. Deleting someone's video game character is hardly comparable to a pedophile/murderer trying to lure a child into their car.

The kid was bated, plain and simple. Let's not forget, there was another "friend" involved in this situation (AztecStrikerS13). I'm sure they made the glitch sound too good (to be true).

I'm not going to blame the kid on this one. It's a tough lesson for sure, but clearly this KirmitTHEfrog guy is out to delete characters, period.

And I will point out this is another reason why Sony should ban this psn:

Pay attention to the comments on that thread. A lot of people think shareplay should be banned cause of this. It is in Sony's best interest to curate and kick these kind of players cause some people will overreact and blame this on shareplay (which is ridiculous in my opinion to say people shouldn't even be allowed to let some one else play their game, even if they know the person and trust them. This is a problem of one troll abusing the system and a kid being too trusting. It's not a problem of allowing people to shareplay if they so wish).

If Sony doesn't want a feature of their PS4 getting a bad rep (which this is obviously giving it, even if I think it's unfair of people), then Sony should be proactive and discourage this kind of behavior by banning trolls who do this.

I think shareplay is a great idea. Obviously some people have learned how to use this to troll people though. I don't think that means we should ban shareplay, but some people certainly do. And if Sony doesn't want shareplay getting a bad rep of "Oh, you use it and you'll have sh** like this happening", they really need to curate it and at least ban people who are obviously using it to troll people with. It is their system, it is their right to say it is not an acceptable use of their system. They should excercise it.

Yeah you are likely right. Bad comparison. The point I was trying to make is that deception over a child is a real thing.

Wouldn't be surprised if this 38 yo guy is going to be getting his PSN mgs inbox spammed.

He's straw manning you, the illustration is not relating the weight of the issue in the deception but the tools used in the deception and the factors that play in it, ie: building the trust of the younger person and luring them into a false sense of security. Its a sound comparison.

It's crazy how many people in this thread think an 11 year old kid has the same amount of common sense as an adult or teen.

Makes me sick that it was a 38 year old "adult" who did this. Hopefully he gets what he's got coming to him. Sick fuck.

This is a pretty shitty thing to happen but hopefully the kid learns from it.

I wonder if Bungie would be able to restore the missing items and characters. They have all that server side so it would make some sense that they could but I know nothing about how they keep that information.

Why I can't say that I agree with a 11 year old playing an online game rated for +16 it's up to their parents to make that decision, not me. I played Mortal Kombat when I was young and when I take care of my little nephew there are games that I do not allow him to play and others that I do (Mostly the LEGO games is what he likes and I allow). So it's not really my call to judge his education.

I do feel sorry for him because he was naive. Some children are naive when they are 7 others when they are 11 or 15. Some people may say this was a lesson but I really believe there are other ways to learn a lesson without causing such frustration to a child. I almost believe he was not even fully aware of what he was doing and I can see some social pressure between these kids with videogames these days. Same when they all want to be max prestige in a Call of Duty game so they do boosting sessions and try similar things. It's not different for liking to show their brand new shoes/phone in school, these are just new and modern ways to be popular/cool around their own group. "I am level 32 on Destiny, I am max prestige on COD, I have a 2.0 K/D, and you don't" etc.

Violence is never an option in my opinion so I do not agree with some GAFfers in here for wishing any sort of violent punishment to the man who did this to this child. However, I do have to wonder what are you doing with your life if you are a 38 year old man, sitting at home, playing a videogame in order to upset and lie to children online. To be honest, it's even a bit sad and I will never understand these people.

exactly.

Also a bit off topic here but I was literally just thinking to myself about an hour ago that I hadn't seen you around in a while lol.

Some of you guys are saying no sympathy, but no glitching or cheating EVER took place.

Secondly, I doubt any of you looked on Reddit, the guy apparently had some really rude comments, and lord forbid you look at his post history...

I'm not sure that the age of the kid matters. A naive person trusted another and was harmed. That he was 11 adds insult to the injury, but the core of the issue is that he was harmed by trusting a stranger.

If he was some rube from a town that never had internet, wouldn't the deletion be almost as bad?

I cried when my PS3 hard drive died and wiped my save files for tons of games I hadn't backed up to the Plus cloud yet. And I was in my 30s. I still get depressed thinking about my lost Rainbow Moon and God of War collection progress.

At 11, he just needs a big ol' Belldandy hug.

as a father of a gamer-

One big point people are missing. This could have been much much worse.

Here we have an 11yr old online with a stranger giving them access to control his PS3.

imagine if this was on a family computer. Or worse.. The guy talked the kid into meeting him IRL.

again, this could have been much worse and actually tragic.

The loss of a videogame save is IMO the safest way this kid could learn a lesson.

It is also a wake up call to his parents.

Trying to find the silver lining here.

The 38yr old still needs a smackdown.
